Dr. Nygaard is a Board Certified Periodontist, with three additional years of specialty training beyond dental school. Dr. Nygaard attended Loma Linda University where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Dr. Nygaard continued her education for three additional years at Loma Linda University in the graduate periodontics program for specialty training in periodontics, soft tissue procedures and implant dentistry where she earned a Certificate in Periodontics and a Masters of Science degree.
Dr. Nygaard is well know for her exceptional skill with connective tissue grafting and esthetic dental implants. She is also an advocate for patients who desire to manage their total health through proper oral health. Dr. Nygaard works closely with several cardiologists and heart attack & stroke specialists to manage patients' risk(s). Dr. Nygaard lectures on the possibilities and benefits of connective tissue grafts, as well as other dental topics.
Dr. Nygaard is a member of numerous dental organizations including the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Dental Association, the Washington State Dental Association, the Spokane District Dental Society. Dr. Nygaard is a Fellow in the International Society of Periodontal Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Nygaard is also a Fellow in the American College of Dentists, an organization that recognizes dentists for their ethics and leadership in dentistry.
Dr. Nygaard is the director of the Meridian Dental Study Group (an affiliate of the nationally renowned Seattle Study Club network), a group of local dentists who are committed to providing quality, comprehensive treatment options for their patients. This group meets monthly to discuss clinical cases, new techniques and technologies. This forum allows the members to learn from each others' experiences, thereby elevating the level of dental care among the group.

Overall, I had a five star experience with Dr. Nygaard and her practice. I saw another periodontist initially then switched. I live about 80 miles away and it was WORTH THE DRIVE to get expert care. The scheduling went smoothly. My first consultation was detailed and intensive, outlining procedures, impact and costs effectively. Further, Dr. Nygaard and her staff welcomed my many questions. My gum surgery was scheduled to fit my needs and post-operation instructions were both detailed and helpful. Follow-ups by phone checked my progress and answered more questions. At almost two months post-surgery, my results are great! Finally, I appreciate that Dr. Nygaard is participating in clinical studies and keeping current as this field changes rapidly, constantly improving her work. I would recommend Dr. Nygaard to anyone seeking skilled, professional periodontal care.

For more years than I care to share I had excruciating pain in my jaw and teeth and consequently an ear. So much that at one time I literally walked into a door at a doctors office as the pain was blinding. I had two teeth pulled prior to my current dentist and Dr. Nygaard, just to bring down the swelling and infection. After years and thousands of dollars I walked into yet another dental office who referred me to Dr. Nygaard and said I would not find better. And so it was. Dr. Nygaard and her entire staff worked patiently, professionally, good humoredly, thoughtfully and tirelessly for least a year or more , through exams, surgery and continued follow up. One would not be overstating it to say in AWE frankly of the care, labor intensive time and sincere concern, that has been expressed and finally I can return to enjoying life. Sincerely Grateful! I want to shout it from the rooftops how amazing Dr. Nygaard and her staff are. I ended up in her office trying to find a answer to a gum issue that ended in a gum graft. I was very anxious for the procedure but every staff member worked hard to put me at ease. I'm still in the healing process but I want everyone to know that if you find yourself requiring a periodontist she needs to be the one you choose. I just know you will not find a more thorough, competent, or compassionate group of professionals anywhere else.

Dr Nygaard is an incredibly skilled periodontist. My dentist found a cyst on my x-rays at my routine dental visit and referred me to her office. My procedure was painless and Dawn, her assistant was very attentive to my needs. Dawn explained my post operative instructions in detail and provided me with much tenderness throughout the surgery. Spokane is fortunate to have Dr Nygaard and I highly recommend her for your periodontal needs.

you need a referral to her office but my gum care is exceptional and my staff couldn't be more skilled and of course our dentist is amazing and my gum surgery looks God's original work.

DDS, Nygaard and her team took me from 6's and 8's to 2's and 3's. At the beginning it was a struggle to just clean my teeth with out Novocain and Nitrous. With their help, I am down to 2's and 3's and a comfortable visit without any Novocain or Nitrous. I didn't think it could be done. I would recommend this team to anyone wanting to save their teeth. I can enjoy eating ice cream and having ice in my water again. Many thanks to everyone..

I just had my last and complete gum graft surgery and have had such a remarkable experience with Dr. Nygaard's professional skilled and repair work. I have had 3 sessions done with her for restoration on my gum line. It is wonderful to have new and healthy gums again. I have learned so much and it is a gift to have her in this area for such a need. She is upbeat, positive and a joy to be around. I would highly recommend Dr. Nygaard if you need gum repair! She is the ticket!

I was referred to Dr. Nygaard by a coworker after I had a horrible experience with gum grafting at another facility. When I came to see Dr. Nygaard I had a large lump on the roof of my mouth which resulted from the previous surgeon nicking an artery in the roof of my mouth when he did the harvest for the graft. Dr. Nygaard not only fixed that right on the spot (she had to open it back up and stitch it up), she was very gentle and understanding about my previous experience. I have since had numerous graftings by her, all of which have gone perfect. No pain from start to finish and I now am so relaxed in her chair I usually fall asleep! I love the caring staff and cannot imagine going anywhere else for my periodontal needs. I trust her and all her staff completely :)

I had Connective Tissue Grafting performed by Dr. Bergman. Initially, I had some PTSD from an experience I had 14+ years ago, when I had CT grafting performed canine to canine. Dr. Bergman and staff reassured me that the latest technology and methods were different, resulting in a much faster and less painful recovery. While skeptical, I moved forward with the surgery and I was pleasantly surprised! Was it pain-free? No, but I was still able to return to work the next day with a little ice and a lot of ibuprofen. Within a week, I was back to most solid foods, and after 2 weeks, I was good to go! Highly recommend this practice. All staff are courteous and professional, and the coordinators do their best to work with insurance companies ahead of time.

I've had two procedures performed by Dr. Nygaard. Both turned out exactly as desired. The facility is immaculate, the staff is professional, very courteous, and Dr. Nygaard is extremely skilled and gentle.
