I feel blessed to have chosen orthodontics as my profession. I am fortunate to say that after over twenty years of practicing orthodontics that there is no other profession I would prefer. I love orthodontics and what it does for my patients. I treat children like they are my own and I enjoy watching them grow. Adults from all over the metropolitan area travel to see me because of my devotion to outstanding care and my experience. Patient care comes before all other concerns. I make a point of not over booking my schedule so that I can spend more time with each patient.

I take great pleasure in seeing the positive emotional and social benefits of a beautiful smile. The excitement and happiness that patients share when we remove their braces is very rewarding. Orthodontics is a happy experience for my patients and I am proud that I make a real positive change in their lives.

Continuing education is a critical step in providing excellent orthodontic care. I have seen orthodontics evolve over the 24 years I've been in practice and the development of new techniques and appliances has reinforced my early treatment philosophy of preventing the extraction of permanent teeth. My patients deserve the very best care possible, and continuing education gives me the opportunity to provide them with that.

Don't worry! Braces aren't nearly as scary as you may think. In fact, braces today come in a variety of styles, materials, and colors, making life with braces much easier, more comfortable, and even more stylish than in the past.

  • Early treatment Early treatment allows orthodontists to monitor the growth of the jaw and recommend further orthodontic treatment if it becomes necessary. Not everybody receives early orthodontic treatment; in some cases it may be recommended that a patient wait to receive treatment.
  • What needs correction The amount of treatment needed to correct a problem will determine how long the process takes. Different patients react to treatments differently. While it may take one patient only 12 months to complete treatment, it may take another patient 24 months. Treatment times can vary depending on how quickly your body responds and how much work is needed to give you the show-stopping smile you expect.
  • YOU! Your willingness to use the appliances your orthodontist gives you plays a major role in the length of time it takes to complete your treatment. Always remember to take care of your braces and appliances; this truly will help make your treatment shorter!
  • Orthodontic braces are a big part of life for many people your age. While braces may have had a bad reputation in the past, today's braces make it easy to look good and feel good! Please contact our practice to schedule your next orthodontic checkup.

Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists states that one in five orthodontic patients is over the age of 21. Many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health, and they want to feel better about their appearance. Adults everywhere are taking advantage of the opportunity to receive orthodontic care, and now you can too.

For many adults, the thought of having metal braces is enough to discourage them from receiving treatment. However, today's orthodontic treatment options offer a variety of braces and appliances that are comfortable, aesthetic, and customized to meet your needs. Types of braces include:

The main difference to remember when treating adults or children and teens, is that in younger patients the jawbones are still developing. For adults, these bones have stopped growing, which may mean the possibility of orthognathic surgery to align the jawbones. Other differences include:

  • Gum or bone loss (periodontal disease) Adults are more likely than children to experience gum recession or even bone loss due to gingivitis or advanced periodontal disease. Patients with straighter teeth are less likely to get gum disease.
  • Worn or missing teeth Over time teeth can become worn down and shift into different positions that can only be corrected with orthodontic care. Missing teeth can cause other teeth to shift and tilt, creating a bad bite and increasing the possibility of gum disease.
  • Incomplete orthodontic treatment as a teen Many adults received some orthodontic treatment as a child or teen, but never completed their treatment. As an adult, they choose to complete their orthodontic treatment to achieve the healthy, beautiful smile they always wanted.
  • Our practice also recognizes that adults and children have different needs, and require a different level of attention and care. We will work with you to ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatments, and that your needs are met with understanding and respect from us.

I am an older patient who got his braces later in life. I was nervous at first, but Dr. Cannistraci and her entire staff made me feel welcome. I was impressed by her knowledge and attention to detail. I asked her lots of questions along the way and she always explained things clearly to me. She worked closely with my dentist since I also had bridge work to deal with. I am very happy with the results and love my smile!!!

Excellent work on a complicated case and the progress in just a few months has been huge. All the staff are extremely nice and helpful and I'm barely in any discomfort when I leave, way less than my previous orthodontist. Dr. Cannistraci has been incredible and has relieved a huge amount of pain that I had in a very short period of time.

Dr Cannistraci and team are an excellent orthodontist practice in Mt Kisco, NY. She always responded after hours, fit you in when you really needed it, and didn't take short cuts. She worked with my kids until the results were perfect. The only con was it took a little longer than initially estimated, but the results were good in the end.

Dr. Cannistraci is a kind, caring doctor who pays meticulous attention to details. My daughter had a complicated case, and her expertise made all the difference in getting great results. She has two wonderful assistants who are just as attentive and proficient. The office was very accommodating in their scheduling, which was helpful to us. We had a great experience with and would highly recommend Dr. Cannistraci.

Dr. Cannistrasi treated me for close to 8 years for 2 rounds of braces. 10+ years later i am extremely unhappy with her service as I was when I saw her. I have a small mouth and to solve this problem, she chose to shave my front bottom teeth down with a diamond blade. I asked her not to, and to use other techniques to fit my teeth into my mouth, and she refused. This shaving has caused unbelievable sensitivity and pain and now it's impossible to have something like ice cream (which is cold) and I have additional issues with my gums because of the teeth being "shoved" together because of her work. Many people may recommend her in the moment, but I would say that she doesn't understand the long term changes that take place and what her actions have done. It was a stressful visit every time, and i am still suffering the consequences of her not listening to me about my concerns.

Dr. Cannistraci and her staff are just outstanding! From their professionalism to their warmth they are most definitely worthy of a 5 star review. My daughter had teeth that needed to be addressed early and she went through two phases of interventions and braces. Thanks to the doctor and her caring ways along with her assistants, we always had a pleasant experience even over such a long course of treatment. The doctor also went out of her way on several occasions when she needed an extra visit on a Saturday, or to be squeezed in when schedules were tricky. That kind of courtesy is especially unique in the medical field these days. And, the final result was amazing. My daughter's teeth are gorgeous, and that is thanks to Dr. Cannistraci.

We had a great experience with Dr. Cannistraci and her staff, and we're extremely pleased with the results! My daughter was told by other orthodontists that she would need teeth pulled before getting braces, however Dr. Cannistraci was able to make room and straighten her teeth without any extractions. The staff was very conscientious, makes you feel comfortable, and they were very understanding and flexible with scheduling appointments and last minute changes. They make every effort to get patients in timely, so there was very little wait time in the reception area. Particularly, the receptionist, Joan, was very pleasant and helpful. We highly recommend Dr. Cannistraci and her team!
