Born in Wilmington, NC, Dr. Baucom grew up in Charlotte, NC. He attended Davidson College for his undergraduate studies and went on to the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry where he graduated in 1968. After dental school, Dr. Baucom served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps for 4 years. He started in private practice in Charlotte and after several years relocated to the Sandhills in 1978. He stays current in advances in the world of dentistry through continuing education courses, participation in the Sandhills Dental Study Club, and as a member of the American Dental Association and North Carolina Dental Society. Dr. Baucom and his wife of 40-years, Candace, have two grown children and three grandchildren. They enjoy travel, particularly to the Caribbean and West Coast, and as much as possible to our Coast.
Dr. Chavis graduated from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 1980. He has been an active member in organized dentistry his entire career. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society and the Fourth District Dental Society. Leadership roles for Dr. Chavis include serving as an alternate delegate at ADA National Conventions, achieving a Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry, serving as Vice President of the NCDS, serving as President of the Fourth District of the NCDS, and serving several years on the NCDS Board of Trustees. He has been involved with many local organizations including the American Red Cross, the United Way, Scotia Village Presbyterian Homes, Scotland County Board of Health and the Scotland County Health Care System. He enjoys all kinds of sports especially running, biking, golf and water sports. His crowning achievement was doing a 70.3 Ironman as a team with his son and daughter. A native of Laurinburg, NC, Dr. Chavis attends the Wagram Church of God with his wife, Donna, who is a dental hygienist, and their two children, Kristen and Coby.
Our caring dental assistants will assure that you will be comfortable and well-cared for in our relaxed, comfortable office. They each have professional certifications and receive annual continuing education in Dental Assisting.

I have been going to Dr. Wellener for the last 8 years. She and her staff have always set the bar for friendliness, professionalism, courtesy and comfort with dental healthcare. My dental hygienist is Hannah and she is AMAZING. Hannah is not only extremely professional, but she is very gentle and sensitive to her patients' needs. As a military spouse, moving around to different states, it's hard to find good dental care that you are comfortable with and that doesn't stress you out. Dr. Wellener and her team are definitely where you should seek your next dental visit.

My wife and I couldn't be more pleased with the dental care we've been receiving from Wellener Dental since we moved to the Pinehurst area more than seven years ago. The office is incredibly well managed, the dental hygienists are highly skilled, and Dr. Laura is quite simply the best dentist in Moore County. After every appointment, I've always left their office feeling that they truly care about me and my overall health, and that I've received the most thorough, state-of-the-art and compassionate care possible.

I have been a patient of Dr. Wellener for about a year now and could not be happier with the care that I have received. Everyone on the staff that I have encountered has been extremely professional. I have had two crowns done and a filling replaced there as well as a couple of cleanings. Every procedure exceeded my expectations. I have also been impressed with Dr Wellener's Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists. The office staff is wonderful to work with from scheduling to assisting with all insurance questions. Having a dental team you can trust is extremely important to me. I found one with Dr. Wellener and her entire staff.

My wife and I retired to Southern Pines, N.C. in July 2014. We asked friends of ours for a dentist recommendation and they immediately referred us to Dr. Wellener. She is simply the best...very thorough, kind, and caring. And possesses a great sense of humor along with infectious laughter. Her admin staff and dental hygienists all make you feel so very welcomed...like family. And, if you're a fan of 60's -70's-80's soft rock, that's the great background music you'll hear in the office.

Dr. Laura Wellener is an exceptional compassionate and very professional dentist. I have been a patient of this dental practice before Dr. Wellener arrived and remained. The staff is proficient and very professional and shows concern for the dental wellbeing of all patients. I just love their spirit and care. This has been our family's dental practice for many years. Everyone who works there is fantastic, and the level of customer care is top-notch. I have sensitive teeth and they always take good care of me! Our kids have gone here all their lives, rather than to a dedicated pediatric dentist, and they've always received excellent care as well. Happy to recommend!

My hygienist "Erin" was wonderful and meticulous and took the time to go over many things that have never been discussed at any other office. Great dental experience from check in to check out. My dental hygienist Christina was very friendly and knowledgeable making my cleaning appointment much more enjoyable!! Dr. Wellener went threw all my X-Rays and intra oral photos that were taken to make sure I could see any areas of concerns or areas that they were going to be watching. Highly recommend this dental office!!!!
