Dr. Lindsay Thorn is a Salem, Virginia native, Artist, Equestrian, and Family Dentist. She and her husband, Brad, share a family of pets together- 2 dogs, 1 cat, a horse, and a turtle! She has an undeniable love for animals and enjoys competing/riding horses. She loves all things outdoors and is passionate about seeking creative ways to support our environment. Caring for our community has driven her to become passionate about achieving overall health while improving the environment necessary to maintain wellness.
Dr. Thorn graduated Summa Cum Laude from Virginia Tech with a Bachelors degree in Chemistry and a minor in French. From there, she continued her studies at Vanderbilt University, where she focused her studies on SARS-Coronavirus. (Yes COVID!) There, she earned her Masters degree in Microbiology & Immunology. During her time at Vanderbilt, she taught MCAT classes part-time for The Princeton Review while also teaching ACT prep at several underserved high schools in the city. Her combined passions for art, wellness, science, education, and her community influenced her leap into the profession of dentistry.
I have always felt that dentistry is the perfect combination of my love for art with my background in microbiology and chemistry. In my work, I not only have to understand the research and science behind the work I am performing, but also I get to use my artistic hand to achieve beautiful, life changing results for others
Dr. Thorn attended The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry, where she graduated 8th in her class and earned several outstanding graduating senior awards. She was nominated to the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry in 2019. She sought mentorship from several pioneers in the field of dentistry whom she regularly seeks input and inspiration from today. Her goal is to learn from the greatest in the field of Dentistry and find ways to implement that knowledge in her own, creative way. Her commitment to the wellness of others is supported by her focus on consistently obtaining the most up to date skills and techniques.
Dr. Thorn is passionate about promoting a wellness lifestyle, prioritizing environmental stewardship, and strictly abiding to ethical principles of practice. She is striving to achieve Gold certification with the Eco Dentistry Association, which rates practices in areas of clinical practice, office administration, and construction. She invests hundreds of hours into continuing education in areas of wellness, sleep and airway, TMJ disorders, and occlusion. She is also pursuing her fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. She is an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, Piedmont Dental Association, and the Roanoke Valley Dental Society. She pursues education through pioneering training programs including The Dawson Academy, The Pankey Institute, and Spear Education. She also partners with top dental labs around the country and in the Roanoke Valley.

I very much appreciated the professional yet personal atmosphere. Rebecca, the dental hygienist, did an amazing job. As I child, I had rather traumatic experiences at the dentist's office causing ongoing apprehension about dental visits - even as an adult. Rebecca and Dr Thorn were conscientious, thorough and spent time educating me as well. Last, but not least, I respect their commitment to the environment. I feel like I found a dental team that treats me as a person - and not as a "client " that just generates revenue.

Dr. Lindsay and her staff are absolutely awesome! I was quite impressed with the knowledge and guidance that Dr. Lindsay provided to me. She discussed aspects of my dental health that no one had ever bothered to mention in the past. I am looking forward to my proposed care plan to restore my dental health and to be able to feel 100% confident in my smile again!

Dr. Thorn is so welcoming and heart felt in all ways. From greeting to finish, it is nothing but positive. There is a comfort level upon entrance and you leave feeling refreshed. The massage chairs and the televisions on the ceiling are just two of the cool things you experience. I had a fair amount of work done and am not sore at all. Thank you for such a fantastic experience!

My experience with LAT Denistry was great. I have a lot of dental issues and Dr. Thorn really laid out all my treatment options and was understanding of my concerns and limitations. Can't recommend LAT enough.

Dr. Thorn and her staff are fantastic! Dr. Thorn is incredibly knowledgeable, skilled, kind, and does top notch dentistry. She offers so many services including cosmetic dentistry, veneers & crowns, whitening, and comprehensive general dentistry. She is extremely personable and truly cares about getting to know you. She will always take the time to really listen to your concerns and create a comprehensive treatment plan that works for what your goals are. I've seen a lot of dentists over the years, and trust me when I say you will not find a better dentist in the Roanoke area. Not to mention, she has a beautiful, modern office where you will feel at home. I highly recommend LAT Dentistry for your entire family!!

Dr. Thorn was fantastic. I was welcomed into the new facility by Shannen, who had a wonderful, friendly smile. Dr. Thorn then greeted me and we toured the new, state-of-the-art facility. It is beautiful! She took the time to review my history, check my teeth, gums, etc. and then we discussed an overall plan with me. I love this approach and feel very comfortable with her and Shannen. I genuinely could not be more please with my experience at LAT Dentistry. They made my 4 year old feel welcome and comfortable while I had my exam completed. I felt listened too and that my opinions mattered throughout my care at LAT. Honestly, 10/10 highly recommend!

I have struggled with some medical anxiety in the past, and Dr. Thorn was great about making sure I was comfortable every step of the way! Apart from being very experienced and professional, Dr. Thorn took the time to connect with me personally which was very appreciated. Also, the space is super cute and the chairs are very comfortable (bonus points for the massage feature!).

My 4 year old daughter with a Sensory Processing Disorder fell and knocked her two front teeth loose and had some pain and discomfort. They were able to get her in same day, and ensured her first experience with a dentist was more than positive. Dr. Thorn is by far the most patient, gentle, understanding dentist I've ever met. She took the time to show my daughter every tool she used and let her explore them before even attempting the exam. She'll definitely be seeing my whole family going forward. I highly recommend her for children or those with dental anxiety.

Dr Thorn and the entire staff at LAT Dentistry have been amazing. Unfortunately, not all dental visits prior to Dr Thorn were positive or welcoming. I can't explain what a relief it is to not "hate" going to the dentist. I knew this was going to be a different experience from the moment I walked through LAT Dentistry'a door. The colorful, comforting decor and all the thoughtful details that went into the atmosphere of the office and treatment rooms. The initial consult was completely different and detailed. It did not just concern my dental health but my whole heath. Recommending LAT Dentistry is one of the easiest recommendations I could make!

I had my first visit with Dr. Thorn and her staff this morning. I am very impressed. Dr. Thorn is knowledgeable and takes the time to explain what she does and answered all the questions I had. Her staff was also very patient and showed concern not just for me as a patient but all the factors affecting my day. This will definitely be my new dental team going forward.

Only one appointment but so far I'm amazed! Dr Thorn is like a holistic dentist, observing your overall health as it relates to your teeth. She and the whole staff are attentive and observant. Dr Thorn listens carefully and makes thoughtful recommendations. In order to provide care in this way they don't contract with insurance but do bill insurance. They are thoughtful about how this process works for patients and upfront about expectations. Roanoke is lucky to have such a practice here.
