Lane & Associates Family Dentistry – Fuquay Varina - General dentist in Fuquay Varina, NC

As much as I would like to consider myself a Southerner, technically I am a Yankee. I was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1953 and lived with my father and grandmother for a few years before being whisked off by my mother to Englewood, California. It was here where my mother met my step-father, a North Carolina native, hence how I eventually found myself in lovely Fuquay-Varina.

My childhood had its ups and downs. We moved around a lot which led me to attend over 10 different schools. I do feel like these experiences molded me into the person I am today, being able to adjust and adapt quickly.

The terms Southern Charm and Southern Hospitality quickly became very real to me. Living in Fuquay-Varina, I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. The last few years of high school were my favorite. Senior Class President and leading the High School football team as their captain are some of my fondest memories. Being rooted in FVHS gave me many opportunities and opened many doors. I was a Beta Club member, karate student, Morehead Scholar nominee and so much more.

Phyllis and I set off for Chapel Hill, working hard, as we began our married life together with our sights set on either Medical School or Dental School. This was back in the day where physicians still made house calls and worked long hours at the hospital (yes, I am that old). However, we wanted a family life, so after much thought, we decided on Dentistry and never looked back. This was the 3rd best decision of my life.

In 1975, as I applied to dental school, I had my heart set on UNC, the number one dental school in the country. I did not expect to get in, but I wanted it! Phyllis and I had fallen in love with Carolina. I also applied to Georgetown and Emory as back-ups. Not even thinking about the burden of cost. My mind was blown when I was accepted to all three schools. Obviously, I was very excited. So, another decision had to be madewhere do I go? I loved UNC and the history we had already created there. However, I had fallen in love with Georgetown and its campus and of course the proximity to D.C. The realization of life kicked in when I found out the cost of Georgetown. I knew that I could not afford it. I came from a very poor family and Phyllis, though from a lovely middle-class Southern family, would not have been able to help. UNC being of the cost of the other two schools. the decision was easy. In August of 1976, I began my journey of becoming a dentist.

It has always been important to me to be able to both diagnose and treat patients. I love being able to make people feel better; whether is it is making them laugh, performing surgical procedures, or simply making them feel more confident with their smile.

In 1980 we opened our first practice in Fuquay- Varina, NC. We loved being able to bring quality dentistry to small townsso we kept goingand going! Eventually adding multiple offices to the Triangle area. I am proud to say that we currently have 39+ general practices and 10 specialty practices.

I love animals. I often find myself picking up turtles off the road or rescuing birds down at Emerald Ise. However, dogs are my absolute favorite. My most recent pup, Max, was actually found under the buildings of one of our old dental offices. I am addicted to Diet Rite and love a good cigar.

Dr. Don Lanegraduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 1980, following obtaining a degree at UNC in Chemistry from 1972 to 1976. He and his wife Phyllis opened their first Lane & Associates dental practice in Fuquay-Varina, NC in 1980.

Dr. Lane is a member of the ADA, the NC Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry from whom he has received the Prestiges Fellowship Award. Dr. and Mrs. Lane have two children, Ashley and Jessie, and four grandchildren.

Dr Howarth was wonderful and patient with me. I was anxious due to one bad experience at another dentistry office. He heard my concerns and fears and took his time. Great bed side manners and he ensured I was good to go before leaving.

The staff are the best, so friendly and prompt to help in anything for you feel comfortable in Fuquay Varina Office. Dr Matthew Miller was very confident on his profession, since the first time he saw my tooth he said to me it will be an easy extraction and was exactly as he said. Took only 15 minutes to do it, Was on my part that made longer because of my anxiety and scare for they start. The nurse was so nice and patient with me, trying to calm and take away my nervous or anxiety. I'm very thankful to both of them.

Austyn my dental hygienist is absolutely amazing. As a patient that has dental anxiety and previously canceled appointments for years I have found someone that makes me feel comfortable, talks to me and has created a calming experience. I'm thankful for finding a team of people that care and take time with patients.

The medical care I received from Dr. Hinds at this facility was negligent, caused me six weeks of intense pain and suffering, and later resulted in thousands of dollars of additional work needing to be performed as a result of their poor treatment. I was misdiagnosed for initial treatment and then continually misdiagnosed at every step, wrongly prescribed an antibiotic without infection without regard to my history of drug sensitivity (which they were aware of), and as a result of drilling too close to my nerve on a simple cavity filling, I had to have another root canal. And that's just part of the mistreatment and negligence I endured. I've spent the last two years at other dentists replacing all the work they did, and having additional work performed as a result of their carelessness. I wrote Dr. Lane's office six months ago and asked for a refund of what I paid to offset the costs I've incurred of having to replace, repair, and rectify the work performed by Dr. Hinds. I just wanted to recoup some of the money I've had to spend to fix their mistakes, and then put this whole ordeal behind me. THEY NEVER WROTE BACK! I then followed up a few weeks ago and said that if I don't hear back by the end of August, that I'd have no choice but to file a formal complaint and seek legal recourse. THEY NEVER WROTE BACK! I tried to resolve this issue amicably, but their offices won't even give me the decency of a response. I'm left to assume that they don't care. Given the longtime friendship that my brother has had with Dr. Lane, I did not want to make this a bigger ordeal than it had to be, despite the pain and I endured and the additional costs I've incurred as a result of their treatment. Now I have to sue them. I'm backed into a corner and left with no choice. I'm within the 3 year Statute of Limitations on Dental Malpractice in North Carolina, and I'm not letting that window pass by without pursuing recourse. I'm also issuing a formal complaint with the NC State Board of Dental Examiners. My recommendation is to steer clear of Dr. Lane's office. They have a lot of positive reviews, but when something goes wrong, they are nowhere to be found.

I absolutely love Lane & Associates mainly because of Crystal Jackson. She does an excellent job on my teeth each and every time. As a matter of fact, I won't get my teeth cleaned unless she's working. Thank you Crystal for taking such good care of my teeth!
