Dr. Lance Kiss, a native of Southeastern, CT, completed his BA at St. Anslems College in Manchester, NH and his DMD at the University of Connecticut School of Dentistry in Farmington. He also completed his post doctoral masters training in orthodontics at the University of Minnesota from 1975 1977. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and has been practicing in the Plainville area since 1977. Dr. Kiss specializes in orthodontics and is a certified Invisalign provider, he also lectures on orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning.

When asked about his philosophy for practicing orthodontics, Dr. Kiss said I believe in customizing treatment to meet the needs of adults, children and teenagers. In many instances more than one treatment philosophy can be applied to the individual patient. Dr. Kiss and his staff take great pleasure in building confidence and self esteem in patients who do not like their appearance or function of their teeth and or smiles. We believe pretty and healthy smiles are for the patients lifetime Dr. Kiss says What better reward for any orthodontist.

'I have been in private practice for over 30 years. My wife Chris was a nurse anesthetist. We have 2 sons Rob and Stephen. Our son Rob is 29 and an attorney in Miami. He received his under graduate degree from the University of Miami and did his graduate studies at the University of Virginia Law School. Our son Stephen is 24 and he too is a graduate from the University of Miami with a BA in Pure Physics. He is currently working on his Masters Degree at John Hopkins University while he is working for the Cisco Corp. Our family enjoys traveling, photography and golf.'

Your dentist may have discussed with you the benefits of having healthy teeth and proper jaw alignment. Crooked and crowded teeth are hard to clean and maintain. This can result in tooth decay, worsen gum disease and lead to tooth loss. Other orthodontic problems can contribute to abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, inefficient chewing function, excessive stress on gum tissue and the bone that supports the teeth, or misalignment of the jaw joints. These can lead to chronic headaches and face or neck pain.

Treatment by an orthodontist can be less costly than the additional care required to treat dental problems arising as a result of orthodontic problems. For most people, a beautiful smile is the most obvious benefit of orthodontics. After your braces come off, you'll feel more self-confident.

It's best for the orthodontist to see children by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required and the best time for that patient to be treated. The first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time and crossbites, crowding and other problems can be evaluated. When treatment is begun early, the orthodontist can guide the growth of the jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth.

Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. In other words, early treatment can simplify later treatment.

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21. Jaw surgery is more often required for adult orthodontic patients because their jaws are not growing. Adults also may have experienced some breakdown or loss of their teeth and bone that supports the teeth and may require periodontal treatment before, during and/or after orthodontic treatment. Bone loss can also limit the amount and direction of tooth movement that is advisable.

Headgear uses an external wire apparatus known as a facebow to gently guide the growth of your face and jaw by moving your teeth into proper position. The force is applied to the facebow by a spring-loaded neck strap or head strap. The straps have a safety release that disconnects if the facebow is pulled or snagged.

An appliance that is worn after your braces are removed, the retainer attaches to your upper and/or lower teeth to hold them in place. Some retainers are removable and others are bonded to the tongue-side of several teeth.

So happy with how my teeth look now! I just had my braces taken off today, and I want to say that they definitely know what they are doing here. My teeth were really messed up, but now they look great! I can comfortably smile again. However, I do agree with some negative reviews. Waiting is very long, I have and appointments where it would be over 30 minutes past my scheduled time and they hadn't called me in. Aside from that, everyone I interacted with was super nice. Definitely worth the time and effort.

I personally have had a great experience with Dr. Kiss and his entire staff. Braces were put on in July 2018 and came off today, March 5 2020. Teeth are perfectly straight. His staff were very attentive towards me on each and every visit. Insured that I was comfortable after each visit. When a wire happened to poke at my gum or lip because of something that I ate that moved the wire, I called the office and they immediately accommodated me. Superb service, check him out. He has an office in Plainville Connecticut, not to far from highway access as well as an office in Waterbury. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Dr. Kiss & staff

Went for an evaluation and felt ignored. Filled out paperwork and sat for 30 minutes before my daughter was called back for xrays after I had gone up to the window twice asking how long we were going to be. They say nothing after she comes back out and I had to ask what was next. We are new to the process and havent even talked to anybody. Unprofessional and off putting to any new patients. I would not recommend this place to anyone

I went to Dr. Kiss when I was a child, back when his office was in Manchester. This was 20 years ago. This review is my experience as a child but I'm sharing it as an adult. My neighbor referred my mother, and I'm assuming the neighbor received some type of credit towards her son's braces for this referral. I wish my mom picked someone else. I still remember this guy (not in a good way) and I always dreaded when it was time for an appointment. Things I remember: the office workers were unfriendly, Dr. Kiss once referred to me as being a "lethargic" child to my mother. He talked badly about me like I wasn't even standing there. (ADULT me is now letting you know I was M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E being at your office), a tech once cut my gums when she was cutting the excess wire in the back of the braces and only said, "oops!" and Dr. Kiss would always refer to himself in "third person" instead of "first person" (example: "Dr. Kiss thinks you should do this" instead of a normal, "I think you should do this."). Anyway, for years I wasn't happy with how my teeth came out after my braces were taken off. It was a bunch of money down the drain. About 10 years after treatment with Dr. Kiss, I finally went to a different orthodontist for treatment again and it was night & day difference, major improvement--both in how I was treated and how my teeth came out. I'm leaving a review because someone else posted that their daughter was on the verge of tears after appointments. That was my experience here 20 years ago, so it's really sad to see nothing has changed since then.

My 16 year old has been treated by Dr Kiss and his staff and it has always been a pleasant experience. The Staff are courteous and respectful. The facilities are always clean and organized. There is always ample parking. They allow for flexible payment plan. Fairly easy access from I84. Most importantly, my daughter's teeth look great and she has never smiled more. Thanks Dr. Kiss!

We had the best experience here. Very professional and honest. The staff and Dr. Kiss were awesome. Very friendly environment. As a parent, it was very hard to trust someone with something as important as braces for my daughter. Extremely happy with the results. Thanks to the whole staff

My daughter really had a tough time here. She is a pretty tough kid doesn't complain much and knows that everything worth it in life comes with a price however there was nothing more dreaded than going here. She would typically leave mortified and on the verge of tears from listening to the 3 or 4 people working on patients in the back and the way they would talk about other patients that had either just left or waiting to come in. Totally unprofessional and not the kind of subject I would want my daughter to hear. When Dr Kiss was informed about this by my wife she said his reaction was over the top extremely animated denial complete with a scolding of both my wife and daughter. My other children will be going somewhere else.
