Dr. Barnali Roy grew up in Southern California. She received her Bachelors degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. After college, she spent one year doing research in Boston at Harvard Medical School. She then went on to obtain her doctor of dental surgery (DDS) degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine where she was honored with an Award for Academic Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry.

During dental school, Dr. Roy realized her passion for working with children. She completed a postdoctoral residency program in Pediatric Dentistry at Columbia University-New York Presbyterian Hospital. During residency, she gained extensive experience in working with children with special healthcare needs, craniofacial anomalies, interceptive orthodontics, and treatment with IV and oral sedation. Dr. Roy is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Roy is an assistant professor at the UCSF School of Dentistry. She also serves as a committee member on the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry. She is an active member of the California Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Contra Costa Dental Society, and San Francisco Dental Society. Each year, Dr. Roy participates in global mission trips to help provide dental care to children in various underserved parts of the world.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Roy enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dog Buddy. She enjoys doing yoga, going on hikes, running, art, watching sports, volunteering and exploring the Bay area! Dr. Roy can also speak Spanish and Bengali.

Dr. Katie Kim grew up in the Bay Area. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology at the University of California, Irvine. She then moved to Los Angeles, CA to complete her doctor of dental surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Southern California, where she discovered her passion for working with children while volunteering at community clinics. She graduated in the top of her class and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental honor society.

Dr. Katie then made the move to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to complete her residency in pediatric dentistry at the Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh, a hospital consistently ranked in the top 10 of all U.S. Childrens Hospitals. Working in a Childrens Hospital and Level 1 trauma center granted her extensive experience in the areas of dental trauma, special healthcare needs, growth and development, pharmacological modalities including IV and oral sedation, and behavior modification/management. She is an active member of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

When not playing with her patients, Dr. Katie enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and crazy cat Flapjack Jacky Kim. On the weekends you will find her rock climbing, practicing yoga, going on hikes, playing the piano/ukulele, and knitting dolls for her loved ones.

Dr. Shan Girn grew up in the Central Valley. He received his Bachelors degree in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating, he journeyed on to Boston to obtain his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Upon graduation, he was inducted into the prestigious Tufts Honos Civicus Society and the Robert R. Andrews Research Honor Society. He was awarded the Dr. Frank Susi Endowed Prize for Excellence in Teaching.

His passion for helping children brought Dr. Girn back to the Bay, where he completed a three-year residency program in Pediatric Dentistry and a Master of Science in Oral and Craniofacial Biology from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He gained extensive experience in working with children with special healthcare needs, complex medical and craniofacial anomalies, interceptive orthodontics, and treatment under general anesthesia at UCSF Benioff Childrens Hospital.

Dr. Girn is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, California Society of Pediatric Dentistry and Western Society of Pediatric Dentistry.
