After graduating from Michigan State University with a B.S. in physiology in 1999. Dr. Monroy attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and graduated in 2003. He then completed a 30-month residency and a Masters Degree in Pediatric Dentistry from UofM, finishing in 2005. Dr. Monroy and his wife Karen (a general dentist herself) practiced in the Muskegon area for nine years before decided to return east to be closer to family and friends.
During his time on Michigans West Coast, Dr. Phil was on staff at Hackley Hospital, worked in a private practice, as well as with a large group practice were he served as the Director of Pediatric and Hospital Dentistry, as well as the Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. Dr. Monroy has served as the President of the Michigan Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the President of the Michigan Council of Dental Specialists, and the President of the Thumb District Dental Society.
He has been Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, is a Fellow with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, is a member of the College of Diplomates, and the American College of Dentists. He has lectured throughout the State of Michigan and nationally on a wide range of topics, including infant oral health and quality improvement in dentistry.
More importantly, Dr. Phil enjoys time with his wife and 5 kids (aged 12, 10, 7, 7, and 5). He and his wife have been married for 20 years, and enjoy horseback riding, kayaking, camping, and traveling together. He is a strong believer in working with kids and their parents to take a team approach to managing oral health and preventing further disease.

The staff at Lakeside are always so kind and attentive when I have my daughter in for cleanings. They explain everything step by step and she feels safe so that they can take care of her teeth. We've only ever had highly positive interactions at Lakeside.

My daughter had a wonderful experience. She's a nervous little girl, and they made her feel very comfortable. She said, " I got to watch movies on the ceiling, they gave me sunglasses to wear, and loved the fishes on the wall. We highly recommend! Thank you for everything and getting us in so soon!

I wish I could give Lakeside Pediatric Dentistry a 1000 stars. They truly are PHENOMENAL with children! My son had to get a extraction plus a crown today and he did SO good! I couldn't believe how well he did!! I was sick to my stomach worrying how he'd do bc he is already a anxious kiddo, plus in the past at other dentists, he wouldn't even really let them do simple things such as clean his teeth or look in his mouth without putting up a fight & being so scared! I also loved that they came out to update me about 10 mins after me leaving him. That helped this anxious mom soo much! This is the first time I've ever felt comfortable and confident walking away and leaving my child with anyone, especially knowing what they were about to do. In fact, they are soo good that afterwards my son didn't even know they numbed him!! I couldn't believe it!! My son left smiling and that says alot!! I couldn't be more thankful for this group of amazing, very caring team who take such great care of our children in situations that isn't fun or ideal for anyone especially kids So thank you soo much for being so amazing! I am beyond grateful for you all and the amazing work you all do with our precious children.

Thank you to Lakeside Pediatric Dentistry for most importantly being humans! I walked in the front door. I was greeted by staff who had the most geniune smiles. They looked like they loved working at Lakeside Pediatric Dentistry. Which is so important to me because when staff exudes happiness it represents OUTSTANDING leadership. The connection and trust was gained prior to meeting the Doctor. The Doctor made the experience even better. He showed not only was he a Doctor but most importantly he is a dad. When I left my appointment I knew without a doubt they were going to treat my child with kindness and integrity when coming for treatment. My momma heart is at such ease! It is amazing to see that the Lord put all these people together to allow small humans to be treated they way Jesus would treat them.

Happily driving out of the county to get proper care for my child. New patient exam, they scheduled me for the next day. I told the receptionist daughter was preparing for surgery at end of the week. Next morning I called to let them know her pretesting was taking longer than anticipated and we'd likely not make it on time. I was told it would cost $75 to reschedule her because it was less than 24 hour's notice. Let me be clear- I had less than 24 hours notice of the appointment, as they had a hole in their schedule and was filling in a canceled appointment for them. Policy to pay $75 to a doctor We've never laid eyes on. That will not be happening. That's great that they're busy, happy for you, but please realize it's a doctor, not a god. I'm actually grateful this happened before I invested in establishing any relationship with this office because I'm not in the practice of paying anyone to treat me like my time isn't at least a valuable as theirs.

Over the course of the past 4 years we've been concerned with our son's grinding of his teeth every time it is brushed off. One appointment Dr. Monroy was very adamant he would not and never has put a mouth guard or bite guard in for a Child for grinding problems! Quote, "Typically, the problem will work itself out as his baby teeth are coming out and adult teeth coming in." At that time he had both adult n baby teeth. Fast Foward here we are dealing with the damage of the grinding and his refusal to help Protect his adult teeth with a bite guard. Despite us following every suggestion and every Appointment necessary for our Child, they were still sticking to doing nothing, I suggested buying a mouth to Protect his adult teeth myself and they still were against it. I am no dentist nor specialist, however, cleaning if adult teeth n baby teeth are still getting chipped should he be trying to Help work to Protect his CURRENT ADULT TEETH.
