Due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the severity of the situation, we feel it is necessary to make changes to ensure the safety of our patients and team. The office may appear different, but our mission remains the same.
Since 2009, Lakeshore Orthodontics has provided comprehensive orthodontic care to our patients. We have offices conveniently located along the lakeshore in Grand Haven, Holland, Ludington and Whitehall, MI. We believe your orthodontic care begins the moment you walk in the door, and we strive to create a friendly environment that you enjoy visiting.
Dr. Charnley opened his practice in 2009, and is board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. Drawn to the esthetic aspect of orthodontic care, he enjoys seeing the improvement in each of his patients smiles as well as their self-confidence.
Dr. Charnley attended Kalamazoo College, where he earned a BA in Health Sciences, and met his wife, Dr. Erin Charnley, also a dentist. During his time at Kalamazoo College, he was a wide receiver for the football team.
Dr. Charnley is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists, the Michigan Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Muskegon District Dental Society, and the Chamber of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg.
At the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Dr. Charnley earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) and Master of Science (M.S.) in Orthodontics, spending over 5,600 hours in specialized orthodontic training in:
In May of 2020, Dr. Katherine Beard joined the Lakeshore Orthodontic team. A native of Portland, Michigan, she married her high school sweetheart, Ben, and attended the University of Michigan as an undergrad, and then went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) and her Masters Degree in Orthodontics (M.S.). She fell in love with the Lakeshore at a very young age, and now shes excited to be a member of the community and help provide exceptional patient-centered care.
Ive been to Lakeshore both pre & post (during?) COVID. They did a great job of distancing and protecting all from COVID. Dr Charnley is always smiling and upbeat as he bounces between patients whether his messages scolds or commends
Our visit to Lakeshore Orthodontics was great! They took many precautions to help prevent the spread of Covid19 such as taking our temperature in the parking look, practicing social distancing, installing plexiglass between patient chairs, using masks, gloves, etc
As a dentist, it is my responsibility to make sure that the specialist I refer to are of the highest quality. That is why refer the majority of my patients needing orthodontics to Lakeshore Orthodontics. It is also why my own children see Dr. Charnley.

Dr. Huyser is hands down one of the most personable orthodontist I know! I felt like he genuinely got to know me during my time as a patient. Kristy and Allison were awesome too! They also got to know me and made sure to answer any questions I had! Diane, at the front desk, is undoubtedly one of the nicest person I've met! Awesome staff and would definitely recommend Dr. Huyser!

Very unsatisfied. Went there to get a specific thing fixed, called on the phone before hand and they said they could most likely fix it, i got there and was told they don't do anything similar to that. Staff was friendly but incompetent. Will look for somewhere better.

Dr. Huyser and his team are wonderful folks to work with. Always greeting you with a warm smile and telling jokes along the way. Their craft is top shelf striving for excellent results. I highly recommend to anyone with ortho needs.

We are in the process of having our 3rd child enter the world of orthodontics. We were referred to Dr. Huyser by our dentist, Dr. Kathleen Stratton. Convenient location was a big reason we chose this office. However we quickly came to appreciate Dr. Huysers' proactive approach to orthodontics. Sometimes it has been a wait and see period where we have watched teeth coming in and teeth being lost. Sometimes we have had retainers made to maintain the current state. And once the time is right, braces. Our oldest still has braces but at this point we are extremely pleased with the results.

My daughter has been visiting Huyser Orthodontics for 6 years. She wore braces for 2 of those 6 years. Dr. Huyser was very patient and chose not to put braces on early - it was a great decision and worth the wait. By the time the braces were put on, she was physically and emotionally ready to handle the responsibility. He knew exactly how to handle a young teen - stern, yet friendly and positive. The office manager Diane was amazing - so friendly - always has a smile on her face and very willing to work appointments around our very busy schedule. She is a gem! I highly recommend Huyser Orthodontics!
