Due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the severity of the situation, we feel it is necessary to make changes to ensure the safety of our patients and team. The office may appear different, but our mission remains the same.
Since 2009, Lakeshore Orthodontics has provided comprehensive orthodontic care to our patients. We have offices conveniently located along the lakeshore in Grand Haven, Holland, Ludington and Whitehall, MI. We believe your orthodontic care begins the moment you walk in the door, and we strive to create a friendly environment that you enjoy visiting.
Dr. Charnley opened his practice in 2009, and is board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. Drawn to the esthetic aspect of orthodontic care, he enjoys seeing the improvement in each of his patients smiles as well as their self-confidence.
Dr. Charnley attended Kalamazoo College, where he earned a BA in Health Sciences, and met his wife, Dr. Erin Charnley, also a dentist. During his time at Kalamazoo College, he was a wide receiver for the football team.
Dr. Charnley is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists, the Michigan Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Muskegon District Dental Society, and the Chamber of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg.
At the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Dr. Charnley earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) and Master of Science (M.S.) in Orthodontics, spending over 5,600 hours in specialized orthodontic training in:
In May of 2020, Dr. Katherine Beard joined the Lakeshore Orthodontic team. A native of Portland, Michigan, she married her high school sweetheart, Ben, and attended the University of Michigan as an undergrad, and then went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) and her Masters Degree in Orthodontics (M.S.). She fell in love with the Lakeshore at a very young age, and now shes excited to be a member of the community and help provide exceptional patient-centered care.
Ive been to Lakeshore both pre & post (during?) COVID. They did a great job of distancing and protecting all from COVID. Dr Charnley is always smiling and upbeat as he bounces between patients whether his messages scolds or commends
Our visit to Lakeshore Orthodontics was great! They took many precautions to help prevent the spread of Covid19 such as taking our temperature in the parking look, practicing social distancing, installing plexiglass between patient chairs, using masks, gloves, etc
As a dentist, it is my responsibility to make sure that the specialist I refer to are of the highest quality. That is why refer the majority of my patients needing orthodontics to Lakeshore Orthodontics. It is also why my own children see Dr. Charnley.

Went in for my first appointment today and everybody was wonderful the place was super clean and nice looking, Cartoons for the younger children. The young lady Angel who helped me out was super nice and easy to talk to. Really helped my anxiety . Thanks Angel!! You deserve a raise and the doctor was polite and informative. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

When getting my bottom braces the technician who tied them at the end didn't do a good job, she was very slow and pressed my lip down on my braces while doing it causing a cut in my lip. Another thing that they did was cover my teeth in a bunch of glue to put on my teeth and so now I have bits of glue sticking out from my teeth. They were very nice though explaining at all times what was happening and giving me clear instructions on what to do while they worked on my teeth. I used Huyser Orthodontics in the past which was way worse, and this was an upgrade to that so I appreciate that. All of the things that I'm saying happened at the Grand Haven campus and not the Holland one which I usually go to and doesn't seem as bad as the one in Grand Haven who gave me my bottom braces.

Super nice staff, quick to be seen, nice office and easy local location. Only drawback is limited (big) equipment for this location. I'll need to travel to a different office to get a needed 3-D x-ray before we can start any process for the reason I'm being seen. BUT... I'm glad they have a local office and I can understand that equipment is expensive. Having one in every office would be costly! Once the x-ray is done I'm looking forward to proceeding with correcting the issue I was there to see them about.

The office and staff are very organized, efficient, clean and friendly. After having braces in middle school my teeth had shifted a little (even with fairly regular retainer wearing). I chose their lakeshore clear aligners which are similar to Invisalign and I am very happy with my results. During the process one of my aligner trays broke...they made me replacements by the next morning! I would highly recommend to anyone!

The providers and staff in this office are amazing. My son needed an emergency consultation and they were very accommodating. Dr. Beard and Dr. Charnley take the time to listen and answer questions. My daughter broke her retainer and Lakeshore Orthodontics was able to see her same day I called. This was her first time at their office and they replaced her retainer free of charge. Great experience and Holly rocks!

My son has special needs and a severe oral aversion. He's had a lot of trauma to his mouth and is terrified to have people in his mouth. Even getting just his spacers placed caused lots of tears and anxiety. Dr. Beard was so kind and gave my son time to calm down and explained to him what was happening. The hygienist was amazing with him and made him as comfortable as she could. Dr. Charnley even came over after everything was done to give my son a high five. They all recognized this wasn't easy for him but never did I feel like they were rushing/forcing him to get it over with. Never did I feel they were annoyed with his behavior. I couldn't be happier with the experience we've had in the office this far. I will highly recommend Lakeshore Orthodontics!

LOVED THEMMMMMMM. My son literally attempted to get up out of the chair every 2 seconds. They'd reach to grab something... he'd pop up. Being only 8 years old his nerves were getting the best of him yet every one who was working on his braces showed nothing but grace and patience. Let's hope I can do the same these next few days as he adjusts to the braces Thanks again!
