Dr. Matt J. Hoidal, D.D.S., M.S. is originally from Bellingham, Washington. He attended college locally at Western Washington University, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Sciencein Cell Biology. Dr. Hoidal then earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degreefrom Marquette University School of Dentistry as a Cum Laude graduate.
Jan E. Sears has been the receptionist on our staff for over 20 years, and is likely one of the first people you will meet at our office. She assists new patients with inquiries and scheduling. She also assists existing patients with any questions regarding post-op instructions.
Doris Ciancio is our Financial Coordinator. She has over 10 years of dental office experience and lives in West Linn with her pug, Olive. She would love to assist you with any insurance or financial questions you may have.
Chrystal Maldecker, EFDA has worked as a dental assistant for over 8 years and is very experienced in all phases of periodontal surgery. She's is also always happy to help assist you with any dental or periodontal questions you may have.
Our hygienists are well adapted at patient education and assist Dr. Hoidal in formation of individual treatment plans. They provide regular dental cleanings and examinations, as well as education regarding oral health maintenance.
He completed his formal education with a Masters of Science and Certificate in Periodontology following three years of periodontal residency at the renowned University of Texas Health Science Center. Throughout his education, he has been recognized with awards and scholarships for outstanding academic achievement. Now in private practice, Dr. Hoidal continually engages in advanced education courses on the latest proven techniques to remain at the forefront of his specialty.
Dr. Hoidalis a member of all relevant professional associations, and is one of a minority of periodontists to maintain Diplomate status within the American Academy of Periodontology. Diplomacy requires completion of rigorous written and practical examinations and is the highest recognition awarded in the field of periodontics. Dr. Hoidal's memberships include:
Dr. Hoidal's goal is to provide excellent care with particular attention to patient comfort. He fosters a relaxing office environment, and takes the time to discuss treatment options fully. He is likewise certified to provide conscious oral and IV sedation for greater relaxation during treatment.

Just went in for a consultation that was recommended by my dentist. Not only did Dr. Hoidal not recommend further treatment by him, he took the time to explain why and then didn't charge me for the consultation. What a responsible and ethical place of business. Thank you!

I had a complicated case where I needed adult orthodontia and the removal and replacement of a front tooth. Dr. Hoidal did a great job coordinating with my orthodontist. He removed my tooth and inserted an implant during the course of my orthodontia. When my braces were removed, I received a prosthetic tooth from my dentist. The implant from Dr. Hoidal preserved my gum line and the new tooth looks great!

I ended up with Dr Hoidal as a result of needing periodontal work to try and save a molar which was part of a 4-tooth bridge. He tried his best, but the molar turned out to be cracked and had to be removed. Because I needed an implant, the only possible option was then to remove the fron incisor and place an implant there. Dr Hoidal was able to cut the crown from the bridge and cemented it to the incisor. As a result, an implant then could go in a space which had no tooth and reduce the costs of the new bridge. Although the process took the usual length for an extraction and implant plus a bit because he was not happy with the bone growth initailly around the implant. Everything is now sound and the new bridge is on its way. At all times, I was very pleased with his approach, thoroughness of his diagnosis and plan, and his manner. I certainly would suggest using him for not only periodontal but also for extractions and implants. Plus, he was somewhat more reasonable than the oral surgeon I had for an earlier extraction and implant.
