Metal crowns can be made from various alloys, including gold, platinum, cobalt-chromium and nickel-chromium. These crowns are strong and last the longest of all materials. They rarely break, but their color and the high price of some of the metals, like gold, can cause people to seek another option.

Stainless steel crowns are often used temporarily while a permanent crown is being made. Theyre also used for children to reduce the number of visits needed to care for a primary tooth that has been treated for decay until the tooth naturally falls out and the adult tooth takes its place.

For visible teeth, porcelain fused to metal can create a crown that matches your tooth color. These are a great option if the crowns are being fitted to a long bridge where structural strength is important. However, porcelain crowns chip easily and can cause some wear to their opposing teeth.

Dental crownscan restore previously broken or worn-down teeth or protect weak teeth from decay, breakage, or chips. When the exterior of a tooth is worn away, a crown can cover the filling of the existing tooth and prevent it from being damaged. Crowns are also attached to dental implants to take the place of a missing tooth and are used as a cosmetic modification to improve a persons appearance.

At your first visit to get a crown, you will get X-rays to check the roots of the tooth and assess the surrounding bone. If there is excessive damage due to decay or if there appears to be an infection or risk of injury to the tooths pulp, the dentist may recommend a root canal first.

The tooth will need to be shaped to receive the crown, so you will be anesthetized (numbed) while your dentist does this. If a significant portion of the tooth is missing, the dentist will build up and shape the tooth so the crown can fit well on it.

At your second visit, after removing the temporary crown, your dentist will check the fit and color of the permanent crown. You will be anesthetized again, and the temporary crown will be removed and replaced with the permanent crown.

A dental crown is not a guarantee for full protection of your tooth, so you still need to care for it as though it were another tooth. This means practicing good oral hygiene brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash once a day.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. The dental staff and even the receptionist really go out of their way to make you and your children feel comfortable. They are extremely informative, friendly and had great patience's when it came to my very young daughters. Dr. Travis and his assistant's are wonderful and have a way to make my children feel at ease.

Dr.Travis is the absolute best dentist!! I can't say enough great things about him. My son had surgery today and Dr. Travis sat with him post surgery to make sure he was okay and tried to calm him down. In addition he made sure to explain everything to us and made sure we were comfortable as well. He even called later in the day to check in on him and see how he was doing. I highly recommend.

They are very patient and they and work with children with disabilities. My son has adhd and he loves this place . O would recommend this place for anyone with children. I also love the fact that they try to do all siblings at once so ur not there all day.

I've been bringing my children here for years and they have always received excellent care. Dr. Jay and his staff are wonderful. My daughter has sensory and anxiety disorders and they have been so great with her. Her hygienist Jen especially has been amazing with her.

Me and my husband is very thankful finding Lake Geneva Pediatric Dentistry and having Dr. Jenny as my kid's dentist. My son have an anxiety issues going to any medical office and doing procedure , so it's hard to find someone that he will trust . The first time he saw and work with Dr.Jenny and her assistant he didn't cry . Dr Jenny and her assistant knows how to deal with a kind of kid I have . The tooth extraction , spacer and cap placement under anesthesia was scary for mom like me . The Anesthesiologist talked to me weeks prior to the procedure and explained and answered my questions . During procedure my son was taken care very well. He was monitored well, the anesthesiologist called us to check on my son hours after we left the clinic to make sure he is ok. Same as Dr. Jenny called us up to make sure my son is ok. The staff in Racine clinic were all nice and assure you everything will be ok.Our visit today at the Lake Geneva turns out as good as always and I'm still very thankful. I am recommending this place and Dr. Jenny as to what the I have experienced so far . I'm sure there are still a lot there that will recommend this place.

My three kids have gone to Lake Geneva Pediatric Dentistry for the last 12 years. We have been really happy with the service we have received. The hygienists are great and I love that all three of my kids can be worked on at the same time. This is a great place. My kids feel safe and I feel confident in their work.

Very disappointed in the way we were treated at this clinic by Dr. Jay... My 4 yr old had some cavities that needed to be fixed; the first occasion they decided last minute that only one of us could be in the room with our child (should have told us ahead of time instead of wasting my husbands time coming) and were rude in telling us. During the procedure I had to reach over to my arm-bound child and turn him to his side so he didn't choke on (aspirate) his saliva and their water as the doc and assistant chose to have a personal discussion rather than suctioning my childs airway. He clearly/audibly couldnt breath correctly. The second visit my small child was struggling to take the sleepy medicine; Jay was clearly mad that he wasnt taking it (he was 4 yrs old!) When I stated that we may have to reschedule Jay told us 'absolutely not, that if he didnt take it we wont be putting another attempt into the schedule'. Clearly his dollar is more important than doing what is best for kids.
