Dr. Steven Laifer is committed to provide you with excellence in general and restorative dentistry, in a caring and gentle way. He strives to build long-lasting dental relationships, one smile at a time, and Dr. Laifer takes great pride in helping his patients to achieve a high level of dental health and esthetics.
After graduating in 1975 from the New York University College of Dentistry, where he participated in the Orthodontics Honors program and worked at the New York VA Hospital, Dr. Laifer completed a rigorous two year Internship/Residency at the Long Island College Hospital from 1975-1977, serving as Chief Resident in General Dentistry from 1976-1977.
After additional experience practicing in New York City with dental specialists in Childrens Dentistry and Dental Anesthesia for 2 years, Dr. Laifer relocated to Cresskill, New Jersey in 1978 when he assumed the practice of Dr. Morris L. Cohen, later moving the practice to our present facility in 1980.
Dr. Laifer keeps abreast of the dynamic changes in dental materials and technology through continuing education. After passing a rigorous examination and completing 500 hours of clinical continuing education, Dr. Laifer was awarded a prestigious Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1982.
Dr. Laifer has been an Attending Dentist and a Clinical Instructor at Englewood Hospital since 1979. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Association and Bergen County Dental Society. He was the School Dental Officer for the Cresskill School System for many years.
A native New Yorker, Dr. Laifer received his education in the New York public schools and graduated from the City University of New York with an Economics and Pre-Dental major. During his college undergraduate years, he was a member of the 42nd Infantry Division of the New York Army National Guard.
Dr. Steven Laifer and his wife, Nancy, have three children. Dr. Nancy Laifer practices Optometry in Cresskill and New York City. Dr. Laifer enjoys hiking, travel and boating. His favorite pastimes include reading, gardening and tinkering in his garage.

Our assistants work closely with Dr. Laifer to ensure gentle, relaxing and efficient restorative and esthetic dental procedures that will meet your needs. Our highly skilled and experienced dental assistants also take digital radiographs of your teeth, assist in laboratory procedures, and perform a wide variety of tasks critical to delivering our high standard of dentistry, in a comfortable and relaxed fashion.

Dr. Laifer and his staff are phenomenal; they actually make going to the dentist a positive experience. They are so incredibly caring and compassionate. I am grateful and overwhelmed by how attentive Dr. Laffer and Helen are to my challenging health condition. In summation, this is a wonderful dental practice run by the finest professionals.

My visit to Dr Laifer on 10/27/20 was the first since the pandemic started. The high quality of care that I have always received at his office was still first rate. All throughout the shutdown months, Dr Laifer kept me up to date via email on the status of his practice in a positive way that was very comforting in these troubling times. I was impressed with the safety measures he and his staff took to protect and prevent his patients and his staff from any contamination of Covid. I felt extremely safe and that there was no risk in receiving any facet of dental care at his office. My family and I will continue to visit Dr Laifer and staff with complete confidence.

This was my second visit and first cleaning, full exam. First visit was urgent due to tooth pain. Both Dr. Laifer and Hygienist Mary are excellent. Thorough, skilled and informative. I am SO GLAD that I switched dentists. Highly recommend them.

Me and my family have been going to Dr. Laifer for years. He and his staff are amazing. Dr. Laifer has gone out of his way to make sure my family is happy and comfortable. Even during Covid we feel safe with the office protocol. I would recommend anyone needing a caring dentist to come to this office!

As always, the doctor was great. I had a difficult procedure done. There was no pain at all. He took his time and was meticulous as always. I drive forty minutes to see him. It's well worth the drive

I finally found a dentist at an office and a practice that I can trust. The dentist and the dental hygienist are both highly skilled very personable and very professional but I absolutely expect to find in a dental practice. I was referred by a dental hygienist and I'm still so appreciative of that referral I was a great decision to go with her recommendation.

Dr. Laifer and his staff are highly knowledgeable and skilled. Dr. Laifer and his staff are very gentle and kind. I used to have a fear of dentists until I started going to Dr. Laifer twenty years ago. Now whenever I go for an appointment I know I will be well taken care of and I have the utmost confidence in Dr. Laifer and his fine staff. Mary his dental hygienist is the best!

I have been a patient for years and while many are hesitant to go to the dentist I look forward to my 6 month visit. The entire staff is tremendous, and the care they give outstanding. I leave each appointment knowing that I have the best care and dental team looking out for me.

Just had my first appointment post COVID and Dr. Laifer and his team are being super safe and clean. They are seeing less patients per day for social distancing and they take your temperature and oxygen levels before entering. It was great as always!! I have also been going to dr laifer since i was like 5 years old and I'm in my 30s. He is the best

I was looking for a good dentist for years in the past. Finally I got very high references of Dr. Laifer from a dentist surgeon of Bergenfield seventeen years ago. Since that time I go to see Dr. Laifer whenever I have got a dental problem. Dr. Laifer is very knowledgeable, skilled, kind and honest dentist. He is a man of integrity who loves his job. He always explained me the situation and made two or more suggestions for me. He always made an excellent job with my teeth. Thanks to his beautiful personality and absolute professionalism I do not hesitate to recommend this guy to anyone. I was blessed to find My Dentist (Dr. Laifer) and I know you are going to find the same qualities in him too.

5 stars for Dr. Laifer! Dr. Laifer has been my dentist for almost 30 years, and I refuse to go to any other! He is extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and he has exceptional skill. I have had many procedures done by him, with no complications. Not only is every visit a pleasant experience, but anytime I have a dental emergency Dr. Laifer and his office staff are sure to help me out and squeeze me into the schedule. The office flow is smooth, minimal wait time. I usually see the dental hygienist first, who does a wonderful job at cleaning my teeth (no pain whatsoever), and then I see him. Recently I saw Dr. Laifer and Mary, the dental hygienist (after reopening from Covid-19 pandemic), and the office has gone above and beyond to make sure the patients are safe and the environment is clean. I called upon arrival (no patients in the waiting room to maintain social distancing), and they told me to come in; no wait time. My temperature and pulse ox were checked upon entry. There was plexiglass at the front receptionist area. All staff were wearing masks and face shields. All patients were wearing masks. Overall, I trust Dr. Laifer and his staff with all my dental issues, throughout the past 30 years and through this Covid-19 pandemic! Highly recommended.
