Dr. Seth Osterman has been providing outstanding orthodontic care since 1997. He has a passion for his profession and enjoys sharing his enthusiasm with his patients and their families. Dr. Osterman grew up in Lafayette and has been back in the community providing professional orthodontic care since 2000.
Dr. Osterman received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of San Francisco after which he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco. He then continued his education at Marquette University in Wisconsin to receive his specialty Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science degree.
Breannah is the latest addition to the Lafayette Orthodontics team, joining in September 2020. She has 16 years of experience working in ortho and general dentistry. Her favorite part about working in orthodontics is seeing the patients confidence grow as they progress towards a healthier smile. She was born and raised in Northern California. When she is out of the office, you can find her cycling on her peloton and cooking for her husband and dog, Bali.
Renee worked with Dr. Sammann for 32 years before transitioning to Dr. Os office. She served as the office manager and treatment coordinator. She has also maintained as an active RDA, since 1993, and she liked assisting the team, chair side and in the lab. With her knowledge of insurance she is now our financial coordinator, while still helping wherever she can. She raised her family in Lafayette and ventured to Walnut Creek in 2002. She now enjoys her time off, cooking and baking for friends and family, traveling and fishing with her husband, visiting grandkids and trying to keep her cat, Smokey, out of trouble.
Renee is new to the orthodontics world but is so happy to have found her way to Lafayette Orthodontics in 2019. She is excited to be learning from the fun and helpful team. She has enjoyed meeting all the patients and seeing their smiles change. She also enjoys getting to know the families and the community. She recently moved from San Diego and has fun checking out the area, exploring new places and things to do, all with her dog, Stella, riding along.
Melanie is a Registered Dental Assistant that has been with Lafayette Orthodontics since 2017. She just completed her active orthodontic treatment, in time for her wedding! Having had first hand experience; she still enjoys being able to relate to each patient in the chair. When not at the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband, stepson and 2 cats: Bentley and Meows. They can be found cooking together and going on many new adventures, especially camping.
Kadie graduated from Pima Medical Institute in 2015 and from there she went straight into orthodontics. She is originally from San Diego but is a recent transplant from Washington. She couldnt wait to get back to the sunny California days. She has enjoyed working in orthodontics because she likes to see treatment progress from start to finish. She loves removing braces and seeing patients bright, happy smile. During her time away from the office, she loves being with her son, dog (Butter) and cat (Lizzie) while cooking and baking.
Stephanie attended Western Career College where she received her Associates Degree and became a Registered Dental Assistant in 2003. She has been in orthodontics ever since and joined the Lafayette Orthodontics team in 2015. We are so excited to have her back, after bringing her new little girl Scarlett into the world. When she is not at work, she can be found on the sidelines of the softball field cheering on her eldest daughter. She can also be found cooking, baking and in the garden, planting veggies and flowers.
Its more important than ever to brush and floss regularly when you have braces, so the teeth and gums are healthy during orthodontic treatment. Patients who do not keep their teeth clean may require more frequent visits to the dentist for a professional cleaning. Adults who have a history of gum disease should also see a periodontist during orthodontic treatment. Watch the two videos below on the proper care of braces during orthodontic treatment.
What can you eat? Lets talk about what you shouldnt eat! For the first day or so, stick to soft foods. Avoid tough meats, hard breads, and raw vegetables. Before long, youll be able to bite a cucumber again. But youll need to protect your orthodontic appliances when you eat for as long as youre wearing braces.
When you get your braces on, you may feel general soreness in your mouth and teeth may be tender to biting pressures for 3 5 days. Take Tylenol or whatever you normally take for headache or discomfort. The lips, cheeks and tongue may also become irritated for one to two weeks as they toughen and become accustomed to the braces. We provide you with orthodontic wax to put on the braces in irritated areas to lessen discomfort.
To successfully complete orthodontic treatment, the patient must work together with the orthodontist. The teeth and jaws can only move toward their corrected positions if the patient consistently wears the rubber bands or other appliances as prescribed. Lack of cooperation following instructions and damaged appliances lengthen the treatment time so please follow instructions.

I love t his place! They have been in practice a long time and really know what they are doing. They are friendly and efficient so you get great service and are in and out of the office on time. I highly recommend them!

I went to Lafayette Orthodontics for a consultation. The staff was very nice and helpful in scheduling the appointment and in following up with me to ensure that I submit the necessary paperwork beforehand. During my appointment, both Renee and the doctor were nice, professional, patient, and thorough when providing answers to my many questions. I was glad to have their input into my potential future needs. Based on this appointment, I would recommend Lafayette Orthodontics.

We have had a wonderful experience over the past two years at Lafayette Orthodontics. I completely trust Dr. Osterman and his staff to create the most beautiful smile for my family. The staff is fun, friendly, gentle and they always have the patient and their results as the top priority. I've priced out braces at other locations for each of my children and always come back to Dr. Osterman and his office!

The staff and doctor are all very responsive and flexible. They were so helpful with insurance through my career changes as well. I'm definitely a special case, and their coordination with other specialists is unmatched. Can't thank them enough, so excited to see the final results in a month or two!

This review is specifically for Dr. Sammann who was my ortho many years ago when I was in middle school. Dr. Sammann and his dental assistant (don't recall her name) were very rude and unprofessional. The reason why he got away with treating his clientele like this for so many years is because the majority of us were young kids and we didn't understand how a dental practitioner should treat his patients. Sure, he may have been nice to the parents, but he was unfriendly and inpatient whenever I had an appointment with him. For example, if I didn't turn my head fast enough in the direction that he wanted me to, he and his assistant would complain about how "kids never listen" (?). Also, him and his assistant would regularly speak negatively of his other patients (kids and their parents) while working on my teeth as if I couldn't hear them. Now that I am a dental student myself looking to specialize, I realize how unacceptable the treatment I received at his office was.

Dr. Osterman is a great orthodontist. I researched and spoke to several other orthodontists before becoming a patient. His approach is very warm and caring. He is clearly an expert.
