Being an orthodontist is a dream come true. To have the ability to fine-tune and/or create beautiful smiles has been uniquely fulfilling and rewarding. It really has been a life-long goal to become an orthodontic specialist and to provide treatment to as many as possible.
As a child, my family was unable to financially afford orthodontic treatment. Growing up with a less-than-perfect smile, well ok it was just downright embarrassing, was difficult. When applying for dental school, most applicants are preparing what to say for their interviews. I was more focused on how to smile without showing my teeth. Luckily, I was accepted. As soon as I started dental school, I sought out an orthodontist and used part of my educational loan money to pay for my own treatment. Now, as a practice owner, my goal is to provide everyone with a beautiful smile without having the financial hurdle. I will do everything in my power to make it affordable and provide access to care for everyone that walks in the door. If anyone knows how important it is for a child to have a nice smile, its me.
A smile is one of the first things we notice when we meet someone. But its not just the smile. It is also important how that smile is being framed by a persons face. I completely understand the vital role that teeth play in proper facial symmetry and support, and as a result, I will try to avoid the removal of teeth whenever it is possible.
The orthodontic world is changing rapidly, and it is crucial to stay up-to-date with the latest technology, materials, and treatments available. That ensures that I will be able to provide the very best of care for my patients. Continuing education is vital and I take it very seriously.
I worked as a general dentist at the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force for four years prior to specializing in the field of orthodontics. My experience working as a general dentist gives me the unique ability to diagnose and provide treatment in a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach. This extra working experience allows me to provide each patient with multiple options, both orthodontically and restoratively while highlighting the pros and cons of each one. During my years in the Air Force working as a general dentist, I traveled around the world learning extensively about all aspects of pediatric dentistry, restorative dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery.
For over ten years now, I also work at the Herman Ostrow USC School of Dentistry teaching orthodontics. As a pre-clinical lab instructor and PBL facilitator, I am able to develop a greater understanding of this quickly changing profession by staying on the cutting-edge with regards to new equipment, materials, and supplies. I bring these experiences to Ladera Orthodontics to ensure that my patients are treated above and beyond the standard of care.
It is exceptionally rewarding to watch a patients confidence increase during their treatment. So many children and adults are too embarrassed by their smile. Its exciting to see their faces light up with delight towards the end of their treatment! It is obvious how thrilled they are to be able to flaunt this beautiful new smile and to see how powerful a smile is when it comes to a persons self-esteem.
Some people may feel a bit nervous or scared before their treatment is initiated, and it is quite normal to feel that way. Our team here has the gift of making people feel comfortable, safe, and welcome. You may be offered a reassuring hand or a bad joke (although the staff thinks that the jokes are good). You deserve a smile you can be proud of and it is our job to deliver that dream smile.
I grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming but South Orange County is where we call home. Im married to a successful and gorgeous optometrist, Dr. Elizabeth Tsay. Were very active in the community and youll catch us running around with our six-year-old daughter, Kaylee and our four-year-old daughter, Ellie. Pastimes include traveling to all parts of the world, movie-watching, and everything related to Disney Princesses. Everything.
The Ladera Ranch community has been wonderful in accepting us with open arms. For that reason, I will vow to do what I can to pay it forward. We currently support several schools, organizations, and businesses locally and will continually do so. Most importantly, I work with the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation doing pro-bono orthodontic cases for most of Orange County. The Smile for a Lifetime Foundation provides free orthodontic treatment to families that are financially challenged and who can not afford braces treatment. Im very blessed to be involved with such a wonderful and giving organization.
Dr. Salmassian or Dr. Sal as he is commonly called, was born in Iran and grew up in France. He moved with his family to the United States at the age of 14 to pursue his childhood dream of becoming an orthodontist. He attended Arizona State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors. He went on to pursue his dental training at the University of California, San Francisco, one of the top ranked dental schools in the country, and after graduating near the top of his dental school class, he went on to specialty training at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He then obtained an Orthodontic Certificate and a Masters of Science at the University of Colorado, School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Salmassian is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, which is an honor that is given to less than 25% of practicing orthodontists in theU.S. and alongwithDr. Gire the only Board Certified Orthodontist team in Ladera Ranch.
He is an active member in the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the American Board of Orthodontics, the California Orthodontic Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists and the World Federation of Orthodontists.

PHENOMENAL EXPERIENCE! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Dr. Gire and his entire staff at Ladera Orthodontics are amazing. My daughter recently finished her treatment with Dr. Gire and the entire journey was an absolute pleasure. They are exceptionally organized, accommodating, efficient and NEVER wasted my time with errors or waiting room delays. Their office is warm, friendly and inviting ... and I appreciate their attention to detail ... everything from fresh coffee, cold drinks, televisions, etc. ... Ladera Orthodontics genuinely puts the patient "first". Dr. Gire himself is a world-class orthodontist. His skill at gently transforming my daughter's crooked teeth to a perfectly aligned bite is truly a work of art. You can easily tell how caring Dr. Gire is for his patients by his calm, gentle and kind demeanor ... but not only is he an outstanding orthodontist, he is great down-to-earth kind-hearted person. My daughter already said she will miss her visits to Ladera Orthodontics ... which speaks volumes as ortho appointments are generally not the most pleasurable experiences ... except wth Dr. Gire and Ladera Orthodontics.
