I love my profession. Not only do I enjoy seeing the changes that having a healthy bite and wonderful smile have on my patients, but I love the daily interactions with my patients and their families. I see my role as not just providing orthodontic care, but helping patients learn about their oral health and ensuring that they view seeing a dentist or other oral healthcare provider as a positive and fun experience.
Not many people have the opportunity to work side-by-side with their father, and I have loved every minute of it. It provides us with the unique opportunity to have a second opinion without having to seek someone outside the practice. My fathers passion about orthodontics, and seeing how he treated his patients and how they reacted to his care, inspired me to go into the same field. Being able to bring about meaningful, healthy changes in peoples lives, while developing lasting friendships with them, is what makes each day fulfilling. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments regarding your treatment, your child's treatment, or other areas of our office please email me at [email protected]
I believe it is essential that any professional, but especially those in the medical fields, stays up-to-date on developments in his or her specialty. As an orthodontist, I know that there are constant changes in technologies, treatments, and treatment processes. It is only by pursuing continuing education offerings that I am able to offer my patients the most advanced, proven care available.
Except for my schooling, Ive lived my entire life here in Monroe, MI, and still love being here. When Im not working and caring for my patients, chances are that youll find me with my wife Heather, and children Michael, Paul, and Daniel. Were a close-knit family. However, I do make time for sports, including training. Ive completed several half marathons, marathons, and triathlons, and last summer I completed my first half Ironman competition.
I have worked as an orthodontist since 1972. During that time I have been privileged to care for so many patients, watching them grow up, go on to marry and have children, and then bring their children to our practice for their orthodontic care. It is rewarding to see multiple generations from the same family and I do not take that honor lightly.
Being an orthodontist means that I am able to bring about meaningful, healthy changes in the lives of those I treat. Having straight teeth and a beautiful smile changes ones life, as the individual moves through the world with greater self-confidence. I see those changes as they happen: as each patient gets closer to finishing their orthodontic work, you see them begin to transform. They move with a surer step and hold their head higher. The day we take off the braces, and the patient sees their new smile for the first time, the looks of joy are amazing. And our team smiles right along with the patient, because we know weve done well.
In addition to my formal education, I actively seek out opportunities to stay abreast of the advances and changes in orthodontics through continuing education conferences, seminars, and lectures. It is essential that I am able to provide my patients with most effective, proven treatments available, as they deserve nothing less.
For many years I was an associate professor in the orthodontic program at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, and I am still a guest lecturer there. Sharing my professional knowledge, and seeing new orthodontists feeling inspired about their vocation, is rewarding.
I was born and raised in Monroe, MI, and have practiced here for the entirety of my career. My wife Marilyn is the love of my life, along with my nine children and 25 (currently) grandchildren. I love working in my gardens, where I have more than 50 fruit trees that I tend to, but spending time with my children and grandchildren is even more important to me.
I believe in sharing my dental and orthodontic skills with those in need. For the past 10 years, I have traveled to and volunteered my time at a hospital on the island of St. Lucia, offering care to the local population, many of whom cannot afford such essential treatment.
Working on a one-on-one basis with our patients is the best part of my job! I am CPR and X-ray certified. I love working one-on-one with our patients. They are so excited about their developing smiles and that enthusiasm is contagious! When we show them the progress that is being made, their faces light up, and the day the braces are removed and they get to see their new smile for the first time is amazing to witness. I am X-ray and CPR certified, and much of my workday is spent assisting our doctors as they care for our patients, making sure that each patient is comfortable during treatment and that they leave with a big smile on their face. I love seeing our patients and their parents smiling and happy! Here, our patients are our friends, and getting to watch them grow up while we work on their oral health and create their new smile is amazing. I love helping our patients and their parents with their insurance needs. Working closely with Julie, we figure out a way to fit orthodontic treatment costs into a familys budget, so that the child gets the care they need. Its very rewarding to be able to do this for our patients, and seeing the relief on the faces of the parents, when they realize that they can afford orthodontia. I handle our accounts receivable and submit and track insurance claims, too. Please feel free to email me with any question with insurance or financial concerns, at [email protected]
Every day I get to interact with the best people: our patients! I am a Registered Dental Assistant, also certified in X-ray and CPR.While my work keeps me busy, as I assist our doctors, construct appliances, and order and track our supplies and instruments, being around our patients is the best part of the day.
