Dr. Thomas Kwong is an Orthodontist. Orthodontists are dentists first, and out of 100 dental school graduates, on average only six go on to become orthodontists. In order to practice Orthodontics, Dr. Kwong spent 11 years in training (4 years of college, 4 years of dental school, and 3 years of orthodontics residency).The orthodontic student spends 3 yearsfull-timelearning the skills required to manage tooth movement (orthodontics) and to guide facial development (dentofacial orthopedics).
Dr. Kwong was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. His passion for orthodontics started very early on while he was treated with braces during his teenage years. From Toronto, he moved with his family over to the Chicago land area where he completed high school and also competed in National Tennis tournaments. With his successful tournament results, he earned a full athletic scholarship to play Division I tennis atSaint Louis University. After his four successful years as a Billiken and earning his Bachelors of Arts (B.A) in Biology, he attended theUniversity of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistrywhere he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. During his four years at UIC, he was the president of his dental school class and obtained many awards for his service and leadership in the community. He was inducted into theOmicron Kappa Upsilon dental honors societyupon graduation.
Immediately following dental school, Dr. Kwong continued his studies at UIC for Orthodontics. During his extra three years of training, he earned his Orthodontic Certificate and Masters's of Science (M. S.) degree in Oral Sciences. His Masters thesis involved comparing different topical anesthetics for the placement of orthodontic temporary anchorage devices which is published in theAngle Orthodontist Journal.
He is married to his wonderful wife Dr. Chuandi Wang a Pediatric Dentist in Portage and enjoys spending time with their children Dominic, Janine, and Carina. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis, biking, running and traveling. Dr. Kwong is still very active with his tennis abilities as he has his coaching certification and has coached tennis for 5 years.
He is a member of theAmerican Dental Association,Michigan Dental Association,American Association of Orthodontists,and Kalamazoo Valley District Dental Society. He is also the chair of the New Dentist Committee at the Kalamazoo Valley District Dental Society and is very involved in the community. He is a board-certified orthodontist in the state of Michigan and also has licenses to practice in Canada and Illinois. Dr. Kwong is extremely excited to meet you and looks forward to the opportunities ahead.

I had spark aligners, (similar to Invisalign) for about 10 months, moved out of state but was still well taken care of by Dr. Kwong + staff through my aligner journey. His ability to work with patients and their busy schedules should not go without being mentioned, as well as attention to detail. Clean office and welcoming atmosphere as well.

Dr. Kwong is very polite, and efficient, and cares immensely for his patients. Over the last year and a half or so, I went through the process of Invisalign. Dr. Kwong and his lovely staff would always follow through with appointments and make sure I was completely satisfied with how my smile looked. Highly recommend!

We absolutely love Dr. Kwong and his staff for our daughters' braces and mouth crowding! He was very informative, patient with our questions, put my daughter at ease about the whole process and did an exceptional job!!!! She just got them off today and her teeth are PERFECTLY STRAIGHT!!!! I would HIGHLY recommend his practice if you have or know someone that needs orthodontics!!
