Upon completion of my education at USCs School of Dentistry and Orthodontics, I began a career in orthodontics alongside my father, Dr. Kwon. Those who know me describe me as a happy individual who is passionate about family, friends, and meeting new people, which is why this profession was and is my passion. When working with patients, I feel as though my job is more of an enjoyable hobby rather than work. Building trusting and long lasting relationships with patients is both a hope and a goal for my practice. In sharing the skills I have attained, I am able to help others gain confidence through a stunning smile, and for many, it is a life changing experience.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and grew up in La Caada. Although I was raised in California, I spent four years in Pennsylvania for my undergraduate studies. As a Korean American, I enjoy bits and pieces of both cultures, especially food. Im an avid fan of good, simple eating, and nothing compares to my enjoyment of sweets. Cakes, cookies, chocolate, candy, ice creamyou name it. I spend most of my free time at church, hanging out with friends, or playing various sports such as soccer. I enjoy partaking in such activities in order to keep a balance between work and leisure.
Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to a corrected position.
This is a great time to wear braces! Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can choose brackets that are clear or metallic in color. You can choose the color of the ties that hold the wire in brackets. Wires are also less noticeable than they used to be, and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort to patients.
Treatment time typically ranges from one to three years, depending on the growth of the patients mouth and face, and the severity of the problem. Patients grow at different rates and will respond uniquely to orthodontic treatment, so the time to completion may differ from the original estimate. The patients diligent use of any prescribed rubber bands or headgear is an important factor in achieving the most efficient treatment. Interceptive, or early treatment procedures, may take as few as six months.
