Dr. Kurtis Wirth is one of the few practicing dentists in the state of Illinois licensed to provide intravenous (IV) sedation. He is chairman of the Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. He has been on surgical staff at the hospital for 23 years and has also maintained a private general practice during that time.
Dr. Wirth earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Loyola University School of Dentistry in Maywood, Illinois and is currently licensed in 4 states. Dr. Wirth is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. He continually expands his knowledge base and expertise by attending postgraduate courses at top dental schools across the U. S., concentrating on emergency medicine, management of in-office emergencies and medically compromised patients, surgery, periodontal surgery, craniofacial pain, restorative (cosmetic) dentistry, endodontics and IV (conscious sedation).
They are also highly trained. Our hygienist has over 25 years of experience and has been with Dr. Wirth for more than 15 years. She is well versed in surgical assisting and periodontal therapy and has a thorough understanding of restorative dentistry. Both she and our assistant are trained in emergency procedures and certified in CPR. In addition, the entire staff is re-trained and certified every two years in basic life support and handling office emergencies.
