Dr. Kurtis Wirth is one of the few practicing dentists in the state of Illinois licensed to provide intravenous (IV) sedation. He is chairman of the Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. He has been on surgical staff at the hospital for 23 years and has also maintained a private general practice during that time.
Dr. Wirth earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Loyola University School of Dentistry in Maywood, Illinois and is currently licensed in 4 states. Dr. Wirth is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. He continually expands his knowledge base and expertise by attending postgraduate courses at top dental schools across the U. S., concentrating on emergency medicine, management of in-office emergencies and medically compromised patients, surgery, periodontal surgery, craniofacial pain, restorative (cosmetic) dentistry, endodontics and IV (conscious sedation).
They are also highly trained. Our hygienist has over 25 years of experience and has been with Dr. Wirth for more than 15 years. She is well versed in surgical assisting and periodontal therapy and has a thorough understanding of restorative dentistry. Both she and our assistant are trained in emergency procedures and certified in CPR. In addition, the entire staff is re-trained and certified every two years in basic life support and handling office emergencies.

I got my wisdom teeth pulled out today I didn't feel anything and he out me to sleep . My only complaint is the iv being put in, my arm is terribly bruised in 2 different places from him when he stuck it in the first time I was crying and I screamed stop that hurts he kept going and I told him to please stop digging around, he got an attitude saying I'm not digging around I'm just looking for a vein that is the same thing is digging around he did it twice in the arm and I told him to stop 2 times he just he kept going than he put it in my hand which hurt but not a bad as the other 2 he needs to go back to school on putting in Iv's because he was rough and it hurt terribly and I shouldn't be bruised this badly already...

I wouldn't even rate him a one star. Came in their to get a wisdom tooth. They couldn't take the X-ray correctly the dentist had to. Then he rolled his eyes at me because I didn't remember my dentists name. Then gave me the 3rd degree on why I have liver failure. Then later proceeded to say WOW! Your on a lot of medications. Wow u even take this medication. Your not my doctor your a dentist please refrain from making comments on somebodies medical when you don't even know their situation. Do your job and take the tooth out instead of acting like my doctor. If your that concerned over my liver failure I'll give u my doctors number Nice job on the $500 lost. Edit- Also as you can see from the response below he cant take criticism and from the recent reviews ive seen he got sued... Not surprised. Went to a different dentist to get my wisdom done.... Didnt ask about my dentist and etc and make unneeded comments about my medical. Was the BEST ever. If anything im happy i didnt get it done by you... Maybe look at ur reviews? A 2.8 isnt great and maybe you should look at yourself because a lot of people dont like ur attitude either. Its not just 1 complaint but SEVERAL. Ur reply really goes to show what kind of attitude you have. I struggle from memory lose thats why i couldn't remember plus its hard to remember when u go to 5+ doctors and 10+ meds when ur 18 like i was at the time. But you just assumed things right? Maybe look up the condition first before assuming my "parents" control me. If anything they speak up when im not listened to. There advocates for MYSELF. Plus that parent had power of attorney over my health when i have difficulties with things.... You look real dumb.

I was hesitant about coming here due to the reviews, but unfortunately it is the only place in Illinois that takes my insurance. I had to have my wisdom teeth removed and at my consultation was told that a portion of one of my wisdom teeth may have to stay in if it did not come out easily, because it could cause nerve damage. They ended up fully removing it and the day of surgery the entire right side of my face was numb. By the time I was "there" enough to call after getting home, I tried to call the number they gave me about my concerns but the office was closed and they have no after hours number. Then it was a long weekend and I couldn't call until Tuesday. When I called about the numbness, I was asked if I had taken my antibiotic, which I was never prescribed. They prescribed one even though I had no symptoms of infection, as a response to the numbness. I called again today, almost 2 weeks later, regarding the numbness and was told that the Dr told me that this was going to happen and that I will eventually regain feeling, which is not the truth even if thats what he had written in my chart. I still have no feeling in half of my tongue or my lower jaw. Aside from the numbness, one of the reviews stated that they were strapped to the chair, to which the Dr responded that they don't have straps or restraints. THAT IS A LIE. They 100% do have them. And used them on me as well. Also, while getting my IV and oxygen on to prep for the surgery, I asked the Dr what I would be prescribed for pain and he responded "whatever you want" which is not a professional response. Do not go here if you can avoid it.

I have yet to have my surgery to extract possibly 3 wisdom teeth, but he shared with me that he has had to operate on his own daughter which gave me a lot of confidence he knows his job well! Everyone keeps talking about his bedside manner, we are ADULTS not children. He is blunt and straight forward. Your teeth are not something to mess around about wrongly so if you aren't going to listen to his instructions, find another dentist and leave your negative review to yourself. He is very informative and cares only about your safety. As he should, right? I agree you should feel comfortable, but don't expect that if you want treated like a baby. I drove 3 and a half hours to see him and will be doing it again in April. Definitely recommend!

He made me very uncomfortable. Rolled his eyes whenever I asked a question. Yelled at me for cracking jokes to lighten the mood. So absolutely rude. The dental assistant wasn't much better I asked her a question and she was very condescending. My surgery went well yes, but there was no trust on my end and I was so uncomfortable with how rude he was.

sue was very lovely greeted me as soon as I came in..... the girl tht took us bck was also nice and well the doctor his bed side chair manner wasnt the best he's not friendly at all but knows what he's doing he did explain everything well The girl tht checked us out was nice also but was loud im sure the rest of the pple in the office heard my information I wasn't sure if she had lice bc she kept scratching her head and was also biting her finger nails and was handing me papers without wiping her hands which is very nasty especially during this time...... I think next time I will only deal with sue and not the other girl

He has always seemed like he has a attitude but he was professional. After Surgery tho I was strapped to the chair. N he wouldn't undue the ties n I was having a moment with the straps. Anxiety bad. Well the nurse came in n she was like omg whats wrong all I cld say was the wraps.. she took them off me Glad she did

Highly, highly recommend! They were very accommodating from the start. I was able to schedule an appointment fast (this was so important as I just returned to work and I have a 5 month old so was working with time/schedule constraints, needing to get done before my insurance switched) Once my prior authorization from my current insurance came in (faster than expected) we were able to move up my oral surgery date. He also worked with my specialists before surgery to ensure I was receiving the best care. I have an irrational fear of dentists and he put my mind at ease and explained everything thoroughly. I have been a pain management patient for 17 years with multiple spinal cord conditions, needing new surgeries, and it's been about 14 hours post op and I'm not in any pain, just a little discomfort as expected. (Past surgeries have been a nightmare to regulate). He did an absolute amazing job. Best experience I've ever had. Thank you so much!
