Dr. Koterwas completed his undergraduate education at the University of Maryland at College Park (UMCP) in 1998. After graduating with honors with a BS in biochemistry from UMCP, he attended the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, where he was selected for membership in several honorary societies and graduated with honors in 2002.
Immediately following dental school, Dr. Koterwas was selected from almost 300 applicants for one of four positions in the Stony Brook University postgraduate orthodontic program, where he graduated again with honors. Dr. Koterwas has an ongoing commitment to continuing education through courses, conferences, and seminars, and has continued these educational endeavors sincegraduating from his postgraduate program.
Dr. Koterwas is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Maryland State Association of Orthodontics, Maryland State Dental Society, and Patuxent Dental Society.
The orthodontic assistants are highly motivated, specially trained, and certified as X-ray technicians and orthodontic assistants through the state of Maryland. They assist Dr. Koterwas in treating and caring for his patients. You will find these co-therapists knowledgeable, caring, and friendly.

We went for an initial consolation for braces. I felt that the way everything was handled from notifying them of our arrival to having my daughters treatment plan explained was wonderful! The office was cheerful and extremely clean. We loved our visit with Chewie while we waited for the doctor. I can't imagine any reason why anyone wouldn't go to them for orthodontics!

When I say the friendly and the customer service is the best at the Calvert County office!!!!! I have told so many people about this place!!! A very warm and welcome feeling when you walk though the doors... EVERYONE is outstanding!!!!

So far we've only had one visit for a consult, but we are looking forward to starting treatment soon. The staff is very professional, prompt, and courteous. Dr. Kotarwas seems very kind and knowledgeable, and services reasonable and appropriate.

The patient experience with the staff from the front office to meeting with Dr. Koterwas was phenomenal. Everyone was attentive and we felt very comfortable with the atmosphere (even with covid precautions, which were also top notch). I definitely will be recommending them to any family and friends.

I knew ahead of time that I'd love this practice because I had SO many friends recommend them, and their Facebook page told the story of how socially aware they are, which means something to me. Their covid procedures were carefully thought out. The office was clean and pretty. The staff was super friendly. We went for a consultation, and ended up leaving with braces! And how could I not love a therapy lab, so appropriately named Chewie, that hangs out to keep the patients comfortable?! I'm looking forward to the next 2 years with the Koterwas family and staff!

I had braces for 2 boys completed here and now my daughter is in braces. Dr. Koterwas and his staff are amazing, professional and caring. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I had no problems with scheduling and they were affordable compared to the competition. If my child had a loose wire or anything they got me in quickly. We had a fabulous experience and highly recommend Koterwas Orthodontics!

We are on our 4th child going through orthodontics at this practice and the level of service has been exceptional. We started at another local office in which the dr sold the practice. The new doctor didn't seem as competent as the original dr we signed on for. Some friends recommended Koterwas Orthodontics so we made the jump. Making a change during the process is never easy or recommended but after 5 min with Joanne we felt confident she would help us along. Sure there were some insurance issues along the way and Joanne stuck to her guns and fought for us with the insurance provider to get us through it. Check out Koterwas Orthodontics you won't regret it.
