Dr. Koterwas completed his undergraduate education at the University of Maryland at College Park (UMCP) in 1998. After graduating with honors with a BS in biochemistry from UMCP, he attended the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, where he was selected for membership in several honorary societies and graduated with honors in 2002.
Immediately following dental school, Dr. Koterwas was selected from almost 300 applicants for one of four positions in the Stony Brook University postgraduate orthodontic program, where he graduated again with honors. Dr. Koterwas has an ongoing commitment to continuing education through courses, conferences, and seminars, and has continued these educational endeavors sincegraduating from his postgraduate program.
Dr. Koterwas is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Maryland State Association of Orthodontics, Maryland State Dental Society, and Patuxent Dental Society.
The orthodontic assistants are highly motivated, specially trained, and certified as X-ray technicians and orthodontic assistants through the state of Maryland. They assist Dr. Koterwas in treating and caring for his patients. You will find these co-therapists knowledgeable, caring, and friendly.

Wait times are minimal. Staff is friendly and do a great job. Address issues quickly. Glad we decided to go to Koterwas Orthodontics.

I enjoyed my visit to the orthodontics yesterday. I didn't have any problems when they put in the new wire and bracket. The process was good, and it didn't hurt. The lady who worked on my teeth was also very nice.

My 9 year old son had a wonderful experience with Koterwas Orthodontics! Everyone was so patient and kind, and did a great job explaining what they were doing. He really looked forward to seeing Chewie the dog there, too! They all took such great care of him, and now he has an awesome smile!! :)

We have a great experience at each visit, the staff is very friendly and the facility is clean and cozy. My son who has had an expander and braces enjoys going to the orthodontist.

I was very pleased with overall experience! Scheduled in the morning for a braces consultation for my daughter. The facility is very clean and comfortable. The staff is very professional, knowledgeable and pleasant to talk to. The doctor explained what to expect thoroughly. Got an appointment the same day! Me and my daughter left very pleased with the results.

So far so good! We were there for a consult...based on our first experience, we have chosen to use them as our orthodontist. The office environment is very lively and welcoming! Being offered water and a chance to meet their emotional support dog was AMAZING!

We love Koterwas Orthodontics! Everyone here is so friendly and caring. Our visits are always quick and efficient with no waiting. The whole practice seems to run like a well oiled machine with lots of heart. And 5 stars to Chewy, the sweetest dental dog there is!!

We started coming to Dr. Koterwas 3 yrs ago with my oldest daughter. We have loved this office and loved everything about Dr. Koterwas & staff!! It was not even a question when our dentist wrote us a referral to seek orthodontic care for our youngest - right away I called Dr. Koterwas and made the appt! My youngest was already familiar with the office & some staff & their friendly dog, Chewie... however, they still treated her super special since now it was her turn in the driver's seat! They were amazing with explaining their initial plan with her and made her feel so comfortable and not afraid, since she is only 9. I can't say enough nice things about this office & staff! We feel blessed to have our daughters in their care!
