Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. Gum disease has two primary stages. If diagnosed and treated in the first stage, the condition can be reversed and tooth loss can usually be prevented. In order to prevent gum disease, practice good oral hygiene and visit your dentist for cleanings and check-ups twice a year.
This stage only affects the soft tissue of the gums, and the patient may not experience any discomfort. Although the symptoms may be very mild, it is important to diagnose gum disease in this early stage before it progresses to periodontitis.
Periodontitis is the name for more advanced periodontal disease and if permitted to progress to this point, not only the gums are affected but the bone structures supporting the teeth will be compromised.
A build-up of bacteria causes Gingivitis. In its early stages, inflammation around the gums is observable, with gum tissues appearing red and swollen. Gums that are easily irritated or that bleed during tooth brushing indicate the presence of Gingivitis. Removal of the plaque buildup is necessary to prevent the development of gum disease.
As the gums become more inflamed, they start to pull away from the teeth, forming spaces known as periodontal pockets. Food, bacteria, and plaque begin to collect in the pockets, leading to infection. The surrounding bone becomes damaged both by bacterial toxins and by the immune systems response to infection.
Dr. Louis W. Konstan has been a dentist in Mogadore, Ohio for 35 years. He completed his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University earning a B.S. in Business Administration in 1983. In 1987, Dr. Konstan graduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Upon graduation, he joined his father Dr. Louis M. Konstan, founder of Mogadore Family Dentistry in 1954. Dr. Konstan was fortunate to practice with his father for over 15 years. He continues to provide his patients with the highest quality of preventative and restorative dental care started by his father 65 years ago.
Dr. Konstan is an active member of the American Dental Association, The Ohio Dental Association, and The Akron Dental Society. Dr. Konstan has had the honor and distinction of being awarded Top Dentist in Northeast Ohio by Cleveland Magazine in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. He resides in Akron, Ohio with his wife of 34 years Margaret, and has three children Louis, William, and Beatrice. Dr. Konstan loves to work in his yard and play tennis.

Cannot rave enough about Dr Lou Jr! A friend referred them and I am so glad I listened! No long waits, very clean atmosphere, a really friendly staff and Dr Konstan is wonderful. He listened to my concerns and helped come up with a plan to get them resolved. When I had some of the work done it was the first dental visit where I've not had major anxiety and pain. Bringing my children here going forward as well. Absolutely recommend if you're looking for a new dentist!

I was new to the area and Dr. Konstan, was recommended to me. It's one of the best things that ever happened to me. I haven't been happy with my smile for a long time, I would cover my mouth when I smiled and I never smiled in pictures. Dr. Konstan, changed all that for me, what a life changer! He listened to me, came up with options and discussed them with me. I agreed with his thinking and he did the work. Top-notch professional. He was gentle and kind, truly a life-changing event for me . Very grateful for his knowledge and understanding of my needs. I can smile again.

Absolutely wonderful experience. I have significant anxiety about dentist offices - and Dr Lou and the hygienists who worked on my teeth were so gentle and understanding. They went out of their way to explain what they were doing and why. I would recommend this office to anyone seeking out a new dentist.

If you're thinking about coming here absolutely do it ! I've been to ALOT of dentists and this is by far the greatest one. The staff is so friendly and sweet . I see Dr. Lou jr. and he actually listens to what I have to say and how I feel . I've never once felt judged or like a bother . Thanks for being the best practice around !

Hands down the best service i have ever recieved in my whole life from a dentist office! Dr. Lou Jr did an amazing job!! I had 14 teeth removed at one time, and honestly I had more pain and a harder time recovering when i got one tooth pulled then i did with the 14 teeth being removed! I have been recommending everyone i know to go here! Not only is dr lou jr great at what he does, But each and everyone of the staff memeber are pleasant and professional. Highly highly recommend this place for all dental needs

Another great experience here! My husband was able to get an appointment quickly after having some bad pain. We saw Hannah and Dr.Konstan Jr. and they were both amazing!! They treated us like family and made the whole process a good experience. My husband is always uneasy going to a dentist appointment but this was unlike his other experiences which helped put him at ease. I would highly recommend coming here. GREAT staff that is always friendly as well as Dr.Konstan and his son are amazing at what they do. Thanks everyone!!

I have been to plenty of other dentist but this one by far is the best. I was nerves about the shot in my gums to numb me but Dr. Lou took it very slow and explained everything he was doing and answered all of my questions. If I could give Konstan's more stars I would. Great place would recommend 100%.

My 3 boys ages 6,7 and 10, myself and my husband started coming here this year! What a difference a great dental office makes!!! The atmosphere is positive and welcoming. We actually look forward to our appointments here now. My kids are calm and comfortable which was not the case before at other dental offices. They treat you like family and don't give you the run around. Megan cleaned my teeth!!!! She's amazing!!!! The staff are all awesome!!!!

I've been nothing but happy with my experiences at Konstan's Mogadore Family Dentistry. Everyone is kind and friendly, I've never felt like a number and never felt rushed. I appreciate that they explain everything they're doing and consult with you. I recently had some bonding work done on 5 top front teeth and am thrilled with it. Beautiful work! I'm so pleased with the results that I just keep smiling every time I see a mirror to look at how nice my smile is now! I've had appointments with both Dr Lou Sr and Dr Lou Jr and both are great, as are their hygienists and assistants. Not only is everyone nice and up front, but you can tell they know what they're doing. I will continue to go to this practice as long as possible!
