Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are specialists who have completed a four-year, hospital-based surgical residency, this after an undergraduate degree, and then four years of dental school. Some (as in the case of Dr. Emery) elect to earn a medical degree. Although the great majority of the procedures are performed atan oral surgery practice, oral and maxillofacial surgeons are also qualified to be on staff at area hospitals, allowing the more complex procedures to be performed in that setting.

At Knoxville Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, an operating room built to the same standards as a hospital OR is available to the patient. Patients can have their surgery safely performed under anesthesia, as Drs. Wooten, Emery, and Manuel have extensive anesthesia training and are licensed by the Tennessee Board of Dentistry to administerIV sedationand general anesthesia.

Knoxville Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - Oral surgeon in Knoxville, TN

The scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery is extensive. Besides the anesthesia component, oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the most qualified in dentoalveolar surgery (extraction of teeth, wisdom teeth surgery, orthodontic surgery such as exposure of unerupted teeth, etc). Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are also the leaders in dental implant surgery, having placed the great majority of implants over the last 30 years. Management of facial trauma has been an area in which oral and maxillofacial surgeons have excelled.

Our knowledge of the facial and dental anatomy, and how all of these anatomic components interact, has placed our specialty at the forefront of treating facial trauma. Reconstruction of the jaws, both electively, and after trauma or cancer surgery, also falls in the domain of the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Other areas within our scope of practice include TMJ surgery, management of maxillofacial infections, treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) and a variety of facial cosmetic procedures.

Very very nice people! Ms. Patty was a pleasure and sweet to talk to about my bill, paperwork, along with scheduling! Dr. Manual was also very nice and made me not as anxious about my upcoming surgery! I would recommend this place to anyone that needs dental work

Disappointed... this practice came highly recommended from my insurance and the reviews on here are great, however I called today regarding a wisdom tooth that has chipped and needs oral surgery to be removed and was told they couldn't help me until the end of October (which is a month and half away.) :(

Dr Turner did wonderful in the extraction of my 4 impacted wisdom teeth. I've never been under, or had anything done and was very nervous. He did excellent and answered all questions after surgery. Thank you so much!

My son had baby teeth pulled! And the entire experience was easy & took excellent care of him! He was having pain & when I called (the next day after insurance approval) they got him in the next weekend (they didn't have opening until June but front desk lady I was speaking with spoke to the dr & got him in earlier)! The doctor (not a nurse or front office lady) called that evening to check on him! Oral surgeon in general is not someone I'd want to go see again in general - but If me or my family needed to see one - we'd go back there!!! My husband & I was very impressed!!

They did a good job with a tricky tooth extraction and the price was reasonable.

I was referred to this office for a surgical extraction of a tooth cracked beyond the bone line. The staff were all friendly and efficient. The doctor was confident and professional. My procedure succeeded without complication. There was a subsequent issue with getting my post-op prescription registered at the local pharmacy. The doctor was kind enough to follow up to my message after hours, and immediately had my script sent to another pharmacy.

The front desk was very rude and acted like they didn't want to help me when I called to get an appointment set up to have my daughter's wisdom teeth taken out. Her dentist referred her there just the day before and told me they take United Healthcare but then they told me not taking anymore new Tenncare patients, but even before they asked me what her insurance was Rose was like its going to be awhile before we can see her sooo.... I'm just so tired of rude people!! We all have bad day's but that doesn't give the right to be rude to our customer's.

I had my wisdom teeth removed with Dr. Manuel. The whole staff was great and really accommodating to my anxiousness with IVs. The nurse who did my IV was so, so nice and really made me feel relaxed. Josh and the nurses were super nice and made sure I was informed on my options. Even though I dont remember anything post-surgery (great drugs) I was really happy with the experience. I would reccomend them to anyone. I'm so glad I chose this group to take care of this. It made a nervous situation so much better.

I was referred to this office for a procedure. I called twice to ask questions about the procedure itself, insurance options, and costs. Both times, a lady named Rose answered the phone and was impatient with my questions. She continually interrupted me and acted like my phone call was a huge inconvenience. During the second call, she left me on hold when I asked if there was someone who was a little friendlier and more patient. I won't use this business if this is how their representative treats patients with questions and concerns.

All around great experience from check-in to check out! The staff were so nice and comforting as I was a nervous wreck. And Dr. Manuel was great! He explained everything to me and even called me personally to check on me the same evening. Definitely recommend.
