Dr. Lance Kiss, a native of Southeastern, CT, completed his BA at St. Anslems College in Manchester, NH and his DMD at the University of Connecticut School of Dentistry in Farmington. He also completed his post doctoral masters training in orthodontics at the University of Minnesota from 1975 1977. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and has been practicing in the Plainville area since 1977. Dr. Kiss specializes in orthodontics and is a certified Invisalign provider, he also lectures on orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning.

When asked about his philosophy for practicing orthodontics, Dr. Kiss said I believe in customizing treatment to meet the needs of adults, children and teenagers. In many instances more than one treatment philosophy can be applied to the individual patient. Dr. Kiss and his staff take great pleasure in building confidence and self esteem in patients who do not like their appearance or function of their teeth and or smiles. We believe pretty and healthy smiles are for the patients lifetime Dr. Kiss says What better reward for any orthodontist.

'I have been in private practice for over 30 years. My wife Chris was a nurse anesthetist. We have 2 sons Rob and Stephen. Our son Rob is 29 and an attorney in Miami. He received his under graduate degree from the University of Miami and did his graduate studies at the University of Virginia Law School. Our son Stephen is 24 and he too is a graduate from the University of Miami with a BA in Pure Physics. He is currently working on his Masters Degree at John Hopkins University while he is working for the Cisco Corp. Our family enjoys traveling, photography and golf.'

Your dentist may have discussed with you the benefits of having healthy teeth and proper jaw alignment. Crooked and crowded teeth are hard to clean and maintain. This can result in tooth decay, worsen gum disease and lead to tooth loss. Other orthodontic problems can contribute to abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, inefficient chewing function, excessive stress on gum tissue and the bone that supports the teeth, or misalignment of the jaw joints. These can lead to chronic headaches and face or neck pain.

Treatment by an orthodontist can be less costly than the additional care required to treat dental problems arising as a result of orthodontic problems. For most people, a beautiful smile is the most obvious benefit of orthodontics. After your braces come off, you'll feel more self-confident.

It's best for the orthodontist to see children by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required and the best time for that patient to be treated. The first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time and crossbites, crowding and other problems can be evaluated. When treatment is begun early, the orthodontist can guide the growth of the jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth.

Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. In other words, early treatment can simplify later treatment.

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21. Jaw surgery is more often required for adult orthodontic patients because their jaws are not growing. Adults also may have experienced some breakdown or loss of their teeth and bone that supports the teeth and may require periodontal treatment before, during and/or after orthodontic treatment. Bone loss can also limit the amount and direction of tooth movement that is advisable.

Headgear uses an external wire apparatus known as a facebow to gently guide the growth of your face and jaw by moving your teeth into proper position. The force is applied to the facebow by a spring-loaded neck strap or head strap. The straps have a safety release that disconnects if the facebow is pulled or snagged.

An appliance that is worn after your braces are removed, the retainer attaches to your upper and/or lower teeth to hold them in place. Some retainers are removable and others are bonded to the tongue-side of several teeth.

Awful, awful, awful. I saw him last week with my daughter and can't believe how he talked to her. I've never heard a grown man talk so disrespectfully to a CHILD in my whole life. After a week of reflection I decided that just never going back there isn't good enough, everyone should be aware of what this man is like so their kids don't have to experience what my daughter did.

Not very good results in my experience. I've had people tell me they could have been better. Although the staff is very friendly, I would go somewhere else if I could do it all over.

I wish there was a star for -1 ! Where do I start ??? Dr.Kiss is the rudest doctor I have ever encountered in my 19 years of living ! He tried to be little me as if I was a child ! He must only treat people kind of his own color I don't know how he even has a license he has no human decency! I am so disgusted I hope this business shuts down immediately!

My daughter had an appointment here and as soon as i got there realized i had forgotten my mask at home....my fault i know, but what really annoyed me was when i got there my daughter went inside and asked one of the lady's if they had a mask they could give me the lady proceeded to tell her that they don't have any. How is it that an Orthodontics office doesn't have masks, find that very hard to believe. Anyways i will be taking my business else where. I spent a ton of money for her braces, the least they could do was give me a mask.

The staff were very sweet to me , however Dr . Kiss only has a heart for people who look like him ... he talked to me as if I was very poor and couldn't be in his sight because my situation is different than others .. I honestly felt discriminated against and he couldn't help me with ANYTHING...

Dr Kiss is a thorough, wise, sweet. nostalgic and very patient orthodontist. I love that he not only is quite knowledgeable at his craft but takes interest in the patient and invests time to give great life advice to my sons. My boys have had their smiles corrected over the course of the past 14 years and our experience has been overall very positive!

I saw Dr. Kiss for a consultation last year. As I was waiting for my appointment, I was seated right next to another consultation and when it was my turn, he recommended almost the exact same thing to me as he had to the previous patient. He told me I would need braces for a year followed by jaw surgery and then braces for another year. I asked if Invisalign would be an option for me because I did not want braces visible at my job, and he responded "your boyfriend won't mind braces. Or are you married?". I also did not think my case was severe enough to require surgery and he tried to convince me that he would get me in with the best surgeon in the state. The whole interaction made me feel very uncomfortable and I ended up going to another orthodontist for Invisalign (and no surgery) that I'm now almost done with after less than six months.

Me and my sister both got are braces here. The staff was nice but often didn't really explain what was going on well enough they just did things and that was it. My problem with the place is doctor kiss. It was always just a little weird and uncomfortable when i saw him but if he is in a bad mood he takes it out on patients. He gets rude and we have heard him yelling at other people. Accidents happen with braces even if you are careful my sister broke ONE bracket and he was extremely unprofessional about it and the way he talked to her. Instead of explaining she needed to be more careful or just going on he gave her an attitude and said "he didnt have to help her" as if we arent paying over $6000. Also they then charged her even tho the first bracket broken is supposed to be free and my sister thought she never broke one before. Its possible she did though because once again they didn't tell us what they were doing. Yes my teeth look good now although i do think they filed them a bit to much but overall my experience was not good between never knowing what was going on and doctor kiss' unprofessional and uncalled for rudeness. I would not recommend anyone else to come here. Better yet to find somewhere else.
