He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1988. In his fourth year, he completed an extensive internship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Chester Crozier Hospitals in hospital dentistry and oral surgery.
After dental school graduation, Dr. Esbitt completed a one-year residency in Dentistry at the Medical Center of Delaware (now Christiana Care). Rotations included anesthesiology, oral surgery, pediatrics, and oral medicine.
Dr. Esbitt joined Kirkwood Dental Associates later in 1989. He continues his educational endeavors by taking over forty hours of continuing education each year. Some of his extensive training has been in short-term orthodontics, porcelain veneers and teeth bleaching, implants (placement and restoration), botox for facial esthetics and facial pain/headaches, and dermal fillers (Juvederm) for facial esthetics. His professional affiliations include the American Dental Association and the Delaware State Dental Society. He provides excellent dental care not only for his Kirkwood Dental patients but for residents from six local nursing home/rehabilitation centers he travels to in his 'free' time. He also enjoys family time, playing basketball and softball, working out, playing guitar and watching sports events and movies.
Dr. Christy joined Kirkwood Dental Associates in 2005 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2004 and completing his dental residency at Christiana Care. As a resident, he received additional training in oral surgery, anesthesiology, and dental implant restoration. Dr. Christy is also trained and certified in Invisalign orthodontics, implant placement and porcelain veneers. He is currently on the teaching staff at Christiana Care and Polytech High School and is contracted by the military to provide annual examinations and necessary treatment to service men and women in the Army Reserve and National Guard. Additionally, he is a member of the American Dental Association, the Delaware Dental Society and the Academy of General Dentistry. His continuing education is focused on cosmetic and implant dentistry and he had performed many complex procedures combining Invisalign, porcelain veneers and implants to dramatically improve the esthetic appearance of patients smiles.
Dr. Robert Christy has been recently named as one of the 2017 40 Under 40 by Incisal Edge dental lifestyle magazine, which recognizes Americas finest young practitioners for their achievements in dentistry.
Dr. Punturieri attended the University Center at Binghamton, in Binghamton, New York, where he earned a B.A. degree in Biology. While attending Binghamton, he worked part-time in the Cell Biology and Zoology laboratories while also acting as a teaching assistant in Microbiology. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1988. He then completed a General Practice residency at the Veteran's Hospital in Albany, New York, which included rotations in Oral Surgery and Anesthesiology.
Dr. Punturieri joined Kirkwood Dental in 1992 and is currently a member of the American Dental Association, the Delaware State Dental Society, the Philadelphia County Dental Society, and the Greater Wilmington Dental Study Club. Dr. Punturieri attends continuing education courses sponsored by each organization, to keep abreast of the latest advances in dentistry.
Dr. Friedberg Maher grew up in Wilmington, DE graduating from the University of Delaware in 2011 with a B.A. in Biology. She is a 2015 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She completed her General Practice Residency at Christiana Care Hospital, where she received training in general dentistry, oral surgery, anesthesiology, pediatrics and implant restoration.

I have been going to this dentistry for over 50 years. Of course a couple of my beginning dentist have since retired. Although missed I am pleased with the ones that have taken their place. They had big shoes to fill! All of the dental technicians that clean etc. are excellent as well. I'm Happy

I have been pleased with the dental care but the lack of a reminder system I fail to understand. The response that we schedule at the time of the appointment is not helpful if you are managing an adult disabled child. It helps to have a reminder call or notice. This has been a problem for years at this site for us, and I have raised it with the front desk staff. Today when I went in to schedule the young woman could not even speak to ask me to come around, instead she motioned and pointed with an index finger. I can hear and I comprehend the spoken word. Then as I began explaining my concern she was immediately defensive with a 'whatever' attitude. In prior years, the office staff understood I was assisting an adult child with autism and worked with me. She just exuded such a whatever attitude I would *never* return and instead go to People's plaza where the staff are more understanding and responsive. Consistently I've had trouble with dental reminders from this group as has my perfectly functioning younger son who changed to Peoples Plaza when he became employed full time to ensure he managed his dental health. I will follow his lead to manage his older brother.

My experience here has always been positive. For my last visit on May 30, I was late due to an accident on Kirkwood Highway. I called to see if they wanted me to come ahead or reschedule. They discussed it and found a way to get me in. So I did not have to reschedule. I believe the hygienist I saw was Jennifer and she thanked me profusely for calling ahead. THANK YOU! Jack D: Always a positive experience. I've been using Kirkwood Dental for close to 40 years. Mary Beth and Dr. Christy are always fantastic!

Michelle is amazing, I am so scared of needles Well when she said you'll only feel a pinch, thats exactly what it was. unfortunately my problem isn't complete yet, but i have another appointment scheduled to resolve my issue will update when procedure is complete. My visit and services received were great. Let me know what was needed and completed that with minimal distress. Set up plan for added services that are convenient and coordinated with my dental plan so it saves me money. Plus staff are very nice.

Everybody was especially kind to me, from Karen at front desk to Amanda and Dr. Christy. I am always amazed at how gentle Dr. Christy is while he works. I could actually fall asleep during his procedure! The only suggestion I would make is to have clear directions to Glasgow office on the Kirkwood phone number. While a different number for Glasgow office was texted to me on Friday, I had already left. When I failed to find their office, I called Kirkwood office and it was closed. A msg giving me the phone for Glasgow office would have helped immensely. I went to the wrong dentist office instead! But they helped me find you. Update: August 29, 2022 I needed an emergency appointment today after knocking out half of my front tooth. The receptionist at the Kirkwood office ( sadly, i failed to get her name) went above and beyond getting me in. I know everyone was full, but she somehow managed to work me in. I am so grateful! Next, the people at the Glasgow office were again amazing. Dr. Clive and Marika did an incredible job resculpting my front tooth. Moreover, they were both gentle and considerate during the hour long procedure. They visited with me, helping me relax and making the whole thing pain free. Karen at the front desk was, as always, warm and fun. Finally, I noted that when the Kirkwood number is dialed, options are given to get full info on the other offices. This was my one complaint in my previous review. So they have quickly remedied that. Thank you. This association does the best dentistry I have experienced in all my 73 years. Thank you for being so responsive and exceptionally good at your work!!
