Saliva is one of your bodys natural defenses against plaque because it acts to rinse your mouth of cavity-causing bacteria and other harmful materials. Dry mouth (also called Xerostomia) is a fairly common condition that is caused by diminished saliva production.
People with medical conditions, such as an eating disorder or diabetes, are often plagued by dry mouth. Eating foods such as garlic, tobacco use, and some kinds of medications, including treatments such as cancer therapy can diminish the bodys production of saliva, leading to dry mouth. Other causes are related to aging (including rheumatoid arthritis), and compromised immune systems.
Some of the less alarming results of dry mouth include bad breath. But dry mouth can lead to more serious problems, including burning tongue syndrome, a painful condition caused by lack of moisture on the tongue.
If you dont have a medical condition that causes it, dry mouth can be minimized by sipping water regularly, chewing sugarless gum and avoiding smoking. Of course, there is no substitute for regular checkups and good oral hygiene.
A lifetime resident of the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Bruce Johnson was born in Alaska and raised in Edmonds. Bruce studied at the University of Washington and earned his doctorate from the School of Dentistry in 1980. Dr. Bruce practiced in North Seattle for 10 years prior to establishing his Kirkland practice in 1991.
To better understand patient needs, Dr. Bruce believes in a commitment to education. Continual involvement in Dental Study organizations and professional affiliations have been the most important source for his staying at the forefront of rapidly changing dental technology. I have been in dentistry for thirty years. I have been with Kirkland Cornerstone Dental for one year. I enjoy building relationships with our patients and helping them have a great experience. I am a Washington native and currently reside in Kirkland. I live with my boyfriend and our two cats. I enjoy mountain biking, jewelry marking, and many other crafts.

Another great visit. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Over the years, my 'fear' of going to the dentist for semi-annual cleaning is gone! My tracker showed heart rate of 71 when sitting down in the chair and 65 when all done!! Meet Dr. Ben today for the first time. He reviewed my X-rays on the screen above the chair making it very convenient to see what he wanted to show me and explained very clearly what the next steps to take would be. My entire family enjoys going to this practice!

This is the best dentist office ever! And the new hygienist Natalie is wonderful! Both of dentists are just very smart and very good!! I highly recommend them. I highly recommend Dr Choi and Isaac the dental hygienist! Isaac was great and quick! Everyone is so kind and friendly and efficient!!

I had a great experience here! Went in for a cleaning, and they gave me a lot of information. The cleaning did hurt a little but that can be expected after not taking car of your teeth, like me. All the staff was very friendly and they take great protocols for covid. Would definitely recommend

I have consulted 3-5 wells know dentist in Seattle including Clear Choice Dental and also consider abroad treatment-Vietnam and Taiwan. Thankfully I found and consulted Dr. Choi from Kirkland Cornerstone and I compared his plan to with others dentist and his plan was the better option with full mouth restoration and 7 implant. I am half way thru my procedure and I am very happy and pleased with Dr. Choi's knowledge, patience and change course with my on going challenges. Highly recommend is practice. I am a True patient. I heard that Dr. Choi practice won Dentist of the Year award. Congratulations!!!! Looking forward to finish my procedure with Dr. Choi with a smile..

Jennifer was very professional and caring and i felt no stress or anxiety. (big plus)! Dr. Choi was a combination of professionalism, artistry, and engineering perfection as he and a member of the staff worked in exacting detail to accumulated the data, photos, and research that they needed, in order to put together a comprehensive dental program for me. At the front desk Chris, was very good at listening to me and getting me in for sn appointment right away. I am looking forward to retuning to "the dentist office"! Not something that I can ever recall saying about my trips to the dentist
