After obtaining his DDS degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago, Dr. Joseph Ilustre practiced as a sedation dentist with a prestigious pediatric dental practice in Houston. Throughout his tenure at the practice, while treating both the pediatric and adult patients, Dr. Ilustre witnessed the need for dental anesthesia and its benefits in promoting comfort and lessening anxiety during a patients dental visit. This motivated Dr. Ilustre to pursue advanced training in anesthesiology. In New York, he completed a postdoctoral dental anesthesiology residency program, a unit of the medical anesthesiology residency program administered through the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. His education and training experiences were directed and coordinated by the faculty of the Department of Dental Anesthesiology and the medical staff of Jacobi Medical Center. His anesthesiology training consisted of rotations through internal medicine and pediatrics, with special training and emphasis on office-based anesthesia in the gastroenterology and radiology suites. Dr. Ilustre also rotated through the Center for Oral, Facial and Head Pain at Columbia University and spent the majority of his senior year practicing his skills at the Rose F. Kennedy University Center for Developmental Disabilities.
His extensive training provided him with invaluable skills for successful anesthetic management of complex patients such as those with Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, ADHD, Autism and other special needs.
Prior to his dental anesthesia residency and general dental practice, Dr. Ilustre graduated with honors with a doctorate degree in Dental Surgery from the University of Illinois in Chicago. He graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental honor society.
Dr. Ilustre returned home to Houston with his wife upon the completion of his Anesthesia residency. He continues to practice dentistry, but his passion is providing anesthesia to promote the most optimal dental experience for all his patients. In his spare time, Dr. Ilustre enjoys spending time with his wife and twin boys exploring new restaurants and occasionally playing a few rounds of golf.
Dr. Hemann was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 2009 and her Masters degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Houston in 2011. Dr. Hemann earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2017. While in dental school, Dr. Hemann was an active member of the American Student Dental Association, the Oklahoma Association of Women Dentists, and served as student council secretary for her class. She enjoys treating families and patients of all ages, especially children! Dr. Hemann truly values the opportunity to develop relationships with her patients, and she looks forward to working together with them to create the healthy, beautiful smiles they deserve. When she isn't practicing dentistry, Dr. Hemann enjoys cooking, indoor cycling, practicing yoga, and spending time with her husband and their one-year-old Aussiedoodle.

I always have a great visit. This past visit they went above and beyond to take care of me. Great team! Prompt, friendly and efficient. They make going to the dentist easy and convenient. Dr. Alyson Hemann (my dentist) and Jessica (the best hygienist) were amazing. They listened to any concern I had throughout the process and was very lively and thourough!! I could go on!! I hate the dentist's office but I love Kirby Smiles. Dr. Illustre is professional, knowledgeable, and sincerely kind. It gives me confidence that I am getting the best care. The ancillary staff and techs are also all wonderfully nice and courteous people. The clinic is also something to marvel at - very tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. I love the natural light coming through the big windows. I'm glad my husband found them and I would gladly recommend this clinic to anyone that asks.

Hands down Dr. Hemann is the best dentist around and has the best staff! The office staff is always so warm and welcoming with smiles on their face and always willing to work out schedules and appointments for the family. I have a 4 year old I've been taking to Dr Hemann for 2 years now and she is amazing! She's a mom who gets it and just creates such a friendly and opening environment. Truly cares about you and your family. Jessica , the dental hygienist is also a gem. She was awesome when it came to cleaning and caring for my son's teeth and really explained everything to me and to him which is important. Not to mention the patience Dr hemann and Jessica have make your experience feel like it's not rushed but also just a friendly visit. I've moved out of the area and I continue to drive out to pearland just to keep this quality of care for me and my family.

Dr. Hemann is the best kindest dentist I've ever worked with! Her assistant Glenda was absolutely amazing as well. The first time I came here for a cleaning miss Jessica was super helpful! Everyone here has made my experience extremely wonderful! And I don't like dentist but they definitely make it great experience! Much love to the entire staff!!!

I really appreciate the dentist honesty at Kirby Smiles, I had been seeing the same dentist for 6 years and decided it was time for a change. I'm glad I did!! Kirby Smiles-BEST DENTAL EXERIENCE EVER!! When I first arrived, it's like going to a "Spa", because the reception area is so warm and inviting and smells so nice. Carolina, the receptionist, got me checked in (who by the way, was super friendly!!) and incredibly fast! Next up was Dental Assistant, Glinda who took care of my x-rays-I was laughing because she kept asking me, "are you okay/does this hurt?". Literally took three minutes. And then....I had an OH MY GOODNESS MOMENT with Jessica because I had never had my teeth cleaned by a Hygienist before. WOW. What a neat feeling, as she "power-washed" my teeth. LOL. Then Lauren, the other Dental Assistant came and her and Jessica assessed the health of my gums. And this was all before I saw the Dentist!! And then I saw the wonderful Dr. Hemman, who was so incredibly nice and patient and talked to me about the health of my teeth and gums BEFORE looking into my mouth. That meant a lot to me for the Dentist to talk to me first. She is such a gentle soul. Well...I had some issues, so we put a plan together that I felt good about. Lauren walked me to the front desk, and I made my follow up appointment with the lovely Carolina. Going to the dentist has never been so easy!!
