In 1989, a Gaston County community-based indigent care task force composed of concerned citizens, business leaders, elected local officials, and representatives of Gaston Memorial Hospital, was formed to address the need of the growing uninsured population and the use of episodic emergency department care as an inappropriate substitute for primary care. The group was concerned with providing the right careat the right time, at the right place. The result was the establishment of Gaston Family Health Services (GFHS) with a mission to provide family healthcare to anyone in need, regardless of ability to pay. With technical assistances from the North Carolina Office of Rural Health, GFHS was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1991. GFHS saw its first patients in 1992 at the practice co-located within Gaston County Health Department building on Hudson Blvd. in Gastonia.
Today, our team of family medicine physicians,pediatricians, advanced practice providers,dentists, psychologists and behavioral health providers care for patients atover 25 practices throughout Alexander, Catawba, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Iredell and Lincoln counties.
Our services include adult and pediatric primary and dental care, behavioral health counseling, pharmacy services, chronic disease education programs (diabetes, hypertension, weight loss), Medication Assistance Treatment, nutritional counseling,womens screening clinics,vision care,school-based medical, behavioral health and dental programs, HIV/AIDS Case Management and care management services for at-risk pregnant women and children.
2020 marks an exciting time for the organization in the transition to our new identity. In April, GFHS unveiled and began operating under a new brand name. That new identity, Kintegra Health better represents the collective talents of over 500 staff members, and the comprehensive and integrated care we provide through core and enabling support services and special programming.
Kintegra employs an array of ancillary staff members who make up our Advanced Care team. These team members are in addition to your primary care provider. They serve in the role as panel managers, diabetes educators, licensed clinical social workers and pharmacists, and provide additional information and support in managing your health. Our Advanced Care team members at each site are are listed below.

My husband and I were referred to Kintegra as part of the mission of mercy dental clinic that Dr. William Donovan was participating in. We needed to go to the office to have the impressions done of our gums since we were getting dentures. Prior to the actual clinic dates this was our first and only introduction to Dr. Donavan and on the first day at the clinic he immediately recognized us out of several hundred people standing in line and came and spoke to us we were impressed. The day that we were to actually get our dentures made we were standing yet again in a long line and he bypassed it everybody there and came directly to my husband and I and announced that the location we were to be at was actually in a separate building and everybody was to follow us down to that building . Mind you we were not first in line nor last in line but he recognized us and came to us. As it turned out I was the first person to have my dentures made in the first person to be able to thank him and the other dentist and technicians involved in all the hard work and effort and dedication that went into this program. What impressed me most is he remembered three things that I had said to him on the day of my appointment in his office a week prior. I said I wanted to be able to chew steak again, I wanted to have lips again, and I wanted to look 15 years younger! We all laughed at that one however after he saw my dentures and my smile the very first thing he said to me was you look 15 years younger and your lips are beautiful and you go out and have yourself a nice steak dinner tonight. Apparently we made some sort of impression for him to be able to remember those things specifically even though he had only met us that one time. The dental technician that took care of us at the office Dora Lewis was amazing very patient kind and gentle and talk to us and explain things to us all through the process. All around I am sincerely impressed with the doctors office as well as the doctor himself and I will definitely be going back there to get my dentures cleaned or should I need any type of work done on my dentures he will definitely be the one to do it. I go here because it's cheap. It's part of the health department. You pay on a sliding scale. But everybody there is so nice. I don't mind going at all and I hate a dentist. Update: I had to go yesterday. I got my appointment the same day I called. The front desk staff is always very patient and kind. The techs and assistance are very respectful and nice. I absolutely love Dr. Donigan. I know I probably spelled his name wrong but he is wonderful. He's a little gruff on the outside (always) but he is one of the best dentist I have ever seen. I tell him what I want, he tells me what I need and we usually do what he wants... LOL... He's not happy unless he's grumbling about something. But he honestly cares about his patients and you can tell. I love him. I wish he was still doing dentistry. He is in management now, we had a consultation yesterday and he is going to pull all my teeth and give me dentures. As it turns out I couldn't get what I wanted but I will definitely get what I need. He will make sure. I can't say enough good things about this dentist. I am 64 years old and have been seeing him for years. I don't know of any doctor in any private practice that is better than he is. I'll shut up now. But nobody can go wrong by going there.
