Dr. Alyssa Kievit first committed to dentistry as a career path when she was in high school. I dont come from a line of dentists so I reached out to the dental community to foster my interest and gain insight on how to achieve this goal. At 17 years old, I made cold calls to local offices, explaining my interest, and asked if I could work as a volunteer intern. A local orthodontist hired me as an assistant and trained me on the job. I attribute this experience to what really opened the doors for me to begin my career path.

As a native to Newtown, Connecticut, Dr. Kievit is happy to be practicing in her home state. Dr. Kievit attended Syracuse University where she graduated magna cum laude with an honors distinction in Biology. While completing her honors thesis, she became a published author for her contribution in studying jaw morphology in East African Rift Lake Cichlids. She went on to earn her doctorate from the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine.

To further her skills, she completed a general dentistry residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, splitting her time between the Upper East Side hospital campus and Harlem satellite dental clinic. It was here I really learned the importance of breaking down barriers to achieving dental health. Many of my patients did not have access to routine care and came to our clinic embarrassed and feeling quite hopeless. Dentistry is so much more than treating disease. We treat the whole person and I love that my job allows me to improve health and overall happiness.

Dr. Kievit is passionate about staying on the forefront of the advancements in dentistry today and is frequently taking continuing education courses. She is a member of the West Hartford Spear Study Club, Hartford Dental Society, Connecticut State Dental Society, and the American Dental Association.

Outside of the office, Dr. Kievit enjoys traveling, interior design, and staying active. Dr. Kievit and her husband, Dr. Rob Kievit, have two daughters, Emily and Ava, and a golden retriever, Lucy. Together, they enjoy spending weekends hiking, exploring new local restaurants, and quality time with family and friends.

Born and raised in Farmington, Connecticut, Dr. Robert Kievit is excited to return to his community to hopefully change that, all too common, experience for his patients. I didnt realize at the time that there was something I could do to stop the progression of my dental disease. I strive to make my patients feel educated and empowered to stop the cycle.

After graduating from Farmington High School, Dr. Kievit attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine where he graduated with honors. He returned to Farmington to earn his doctorate from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine where he received graduating awards for ethics and his work with implants. It was there he learned the importance of preventative care. I realized there are small changes that can be made which make a larger impact on both a patients dental and overall health. Dentistry has come a long way from even when I was younger and I enjoy embracing what technology has to offer today. Our office uses a variety of state of the art technology that increases patient comfort, minimizes time spent in the dental chair, and promotes conservative treatment.

Dr. Kievit can often be found learning about advancements in dentistry through continuing education courses. He completed advanced training in general dentistry at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Manhattan, New York. He is committed to being a lifelong learner and appreciates this aspect of his profession. In his free time, Dr. Kievit is an avid skier and shares a love of camping and fishing with his grandfather. Together, they have traveled to remote locations like Chile, Newfoundland, Alaska, and New Brunswick. Mira is a registered dental hygienist in our practice. She has practiced for over 30 years having earned her degree from the University of Bridgeport in 1997 as an expanded duty hygienist. Prior to working in our office, Mira began her career as a dental assistant in a local pediatric dental practice and also worked as a hygenist in Simsbury. We have been fortunate to have Mira on our team since January of 2012. It is obvious how much Mira loves her job and our patients are always complimenting Mira for her talent, care, and attention to detail. She says she enjoys providing the best care for her patients through her clinical skills and education in order to help them achieve a healthy mouth.

Mira has lived in West Hartford over 30 years. She has two daughters; her oldest daughter lives in South Florida with her husband and two little girls. Her youngest daughter is currently a student at Elon University. She resides with her husband and the love of her life, her dog Cody. He is a little havanese with the most beautiful eyes on the planet.

Kathy is one of our registered dental hygienists. Kathy performs a wide array of tasks that provide you with excellent care and personalized attention. She enjoys sharing her extensive dental and overall health knowledge with all patients.

With daughters off at college, Kathy also mentors dental hygiene students. Together with Phyllis Gerrol, she also participates in additional hygiene education throughout the year. Kathy spends her time with her husband and enjoys walking her dog, Zoe.

Phyllis is one of our registered dental hygienists. Phyllis has been providing oral hygiene care to patients for over 25 years. Our patients and staff alike appreciate her warm, welcoming personality, sense of humor, and passion for her profession.

She attributes her start in dentistry to when she helped her brother open his own dental practice when she was only in high school. Through the years, Phyllis has appreciated that she finds most satisfaction in helping her patients. No challenge is too big for her either. I love being able to help people achieve a smile that makes them proud.

When not in the office, Phyllis enjoys cooking, gardening, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. She is married with two daughters and is a proud grandmother of two grandchildren. She has a few furry family members that include a 21 year old cat, Dosey, a chocolate lab mix, Turkey, a bird, Houdini, and a Great Dane named Pigeon.

Karen is one of our dental assistants. Dentistry runs deep her in close knit family. She spent many years working with her father who is a now retired general dentist. She has been on four mission trips to Honduras providing necessary dental treatment with both her parents and her daughter. Family is everything to me and I am fortunate we are all very close. Each summer, Karen looks forward to spending vacation at her parents cottage with her two children, her six siblings, their spouses, and nine nieces and nephews.

Shauna is one of our dental assistants. Shauna earned her Certified Dental Assistant certificate from Mesa College in San Diego. She is certified in radiology, infection control, and chair side assisting.

When not in the office, she enjoys live music, camping and hiking, and completing challenging puzzles. She and her husband, Rob, share a dog named Harlee. They are also fostering two dogs named Ripley and Rory.

Meridith is one of our practice administrators. She has been with our practice for over a decade and our patients love her! She is a wealth of knowledge and able to help our patients make the best use of their insurance benefits.

Cassie is one of our practice administrators. She has been in the dental industry for over 10 years. She got started by attending Bring Your Daughter to Work Day, shadowing her mom as a dental office manager.Cassie earned her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Tuxis Community College.

Lucy is a beloved team member at Kievit Dentistry. She helps our patients by alleviating stress and anxiety. Unlike a seeing eye dog or other service animals, Lucy is there to be pet. Lucy loves people and we knew this would be a way where we could share her calm demeanor with others and enrich her life. Lucy received her training from Tails You Win, in Manchester, CT. In December 2017, she took and successfully passed the Intermountain Therapy Animals test that qualified her a registered therapy animal. She is only available on select days and if we have any patients with dog anxiety or allergies she will not be in the office. Our office is professionally cleaned after each visit. In her spare time, she enjoys taking naps, going for walks, and her favorite food is peanut butter.

When not in the office, Dr. Kievit can be found volunteering with her five year old golden retriever, Lucy. We named her Lucy because we love Lucille Ball and have spent so many evenings laughing together with her onscreen antics. Lucy has lived up to her name, she is goofy and full of personality. In December 2017, Lucy was awarded registration with Intermountain Therapy Animals. Lucy brings so much joy to our lives that we wanted to share that with others. We ultimately would like to work with R.E.A.D, a program designed to promote childrens literacy and communication by reading to dogs.
