Dental implants represent the most recent and advanced method of replacing lost or missing teeth. Invented in 1952 by a Swedish surgeon named Per-Ingevar Branemark, dental implants today offer a highly effective, long-term solution for replacing missing teeth to reestablish a fully functional and attractive smile. Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or all of the upper and/or lower teeth.
A dental implant is a small, biocompatible post that is surgically positioned by means of a minimally invasive procedure into the jawbone beneath the gums. Once healing takes place and the implant integrates with the bone, it behaves in much the same way as the root of a natural tooth to provide support for an aesthetically appealing dental crown or bridge. A period ranging from 3 to 6 months is required for the jawbone to fuse with the implant via a process known as osseointegration.
According to clinical studies, dental implants have a demonstrated long-term success rate of well over 95%. One key to the success and longevity of a dental implant is that sufficient bone is present to provide stable support for the implanted surgical post. If insufficient bone is present, a bone grafting procedure is often recommended prior to the placement of a dental implant. Additionally, candidates for dental implants should be free of periodontal disease and be aware that a continued, effective oral hygiene routine and care is necessary to maintain a strong and functional implant.
Treatment planning a patient for the precise placement of a dental implant involves advanced scanning technology and software to map out the details of care from both a prosthetic and surgical prospective. In this way a case can be planned and meticulously executed from the beginning with the final restoration in mind. With advances in implant dentistry multiple approaches to care are now being offered. In certain cases an implant can be placed at the same time a dental extraction is performed. This procedure is known as, immediate dental implant placement. Additionally, it is also sometimes possible to place same-day dental implants. With this procedure a temporary crown or bridge can be attached to the implants at the same time they are placed. In all cases, complete healing and osseointegration is required before the placement of the final prosthesis.
Most dental implants are made of titanium but are also available metal-free zirconia. Both titanium and zirconia are biocompatible materials, which integrate well with the hard and soft tissues in the jaw. Depending upon the requirements of the case, a single dental implant can be restored with a crown to replace one missing tooth, or multiple implants can be used to support a fixed bridge. In cases where all of the upper and/or lower teeth are missing a full-arch, implanted supported bridge can be placed. Special implants can also be placed for added support and stability for removable overdentures or as anchorage devices in orthodontics called TADs or Transitional Anchorage Devices.

Dr. Kiefer performed gum graft surgery to repair my receding gum line. The experience was wonderful! Along with her great staff, Irene and Katie, I was totally prepped on what to expect, and the surgery itself was flawless. From the first injection of novocaine, to the last stitch, the procedure was painless. Recovery has been amazing. I had no idea what to expect, and I must say, there has been minimal discomfort and no pain worth mentioning. I would not hesitate to do it again. Thank you ladies for such a great experience!

I have been a patient at Kiefer Periodontics for about 4 years now. I have worked with both Hygienist, Evelyn and MJ, and they have both been fantastic. They always make sure I am comfortable and my teeth feel awesome when I leave. I have also had a Gum Graft done by Dr. Kiefer. And her Assistant Katie. Another great experience - they explained everything well and the procedure was smooth. Everyone including the office staff are great and I highly recommend this office. I only wish I switched to them sooner!

Recently i had graft surgery with Dr. Kiefer. Dr. Kiefer & her assistant Katy did a fantastic job in both making me feel comfortable & explaining the procedure as it was going on. Unfortunately i need additional surgery and feel very comfortable in continuing with Dr. Kiefer. Also a shout out to the office staff. 5 stars

I had a great experience with Dr. Kiefer! My dentist recommended her for a dental implant and I very happy he did. Prior to the procedure Dr. Kiefer thoroughly explained each step she was going to take and why. During the procedure she kept me informed of each step so I'd know exactly where we were in the process. She and her excellent crew made this experience straight forward and comfortable. Dr. Kiefer has done multiple implants for me. She does great work and is very thorough explaining the details of the procedure. It has always been a positive experience for me. Dr. Kiefer is an excellent dentist. She greets and engages her patients to give them a level of comfort and safety- her entire staff mirrors her gregarious professionalism. As she deftly works on a patient , she insures they are comfortable and always gives time to completely answer any question. I have had extensive work done by her. Called with a minor issue with an implant would have taken her 5 mins to fix and decline to help me out !! Now I did have implant done at my dentist back home 51/2 hrs away but would have gladly paid whatever !

I have had multiple procedures and three implants to date. The staff is wonderful. Jill, Irene and Katie do a great job. Dr Kiefer is excellent in her diagnosis and surgery. I am on my fourth implant and would not trust anyone else.
