Dr. Sonia finds it extremely exciting to watch a patient grow up and see their personality develop and emerge! She tends to form very strong attachments with each child in fact, they feel like a member of her family! Thats what makes it so hard when they eventually become young adults and have to say goodbye and transition to an adult dentist.
Dr. Sonia graduated at the top of her class in dental school from the Health Sciences University (CES) in her native Colombia. From there, she attended a pediatric dentistry residency at the University of Illinois, Chicago College of Dentistry, followed by the completion of her Master of Science from the same university. Today, she is a Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry!
As for continuing education, Dr. Sonia feels that it is absolutely essential to stay up to date with new technologies, concepts, and techniques related to pediatric dentistry, which is why she participates in countless trainings throughout each year. This ensures that her special patients receive the most effective, proven, and gentle care possible.
When she isnt working or studying, Dr. Sonias top priority is spending quality time with her family, which includes her husband, two daughters, and one son. She is also extremely passionate about womens education, empowering women, traveling, learning new things, and meeting as many new people as possible.
Dr. Dave really enjoys taking the time to explain treatments and procedures to his patients in kid-friendly language. This way, they understand whats going to happen and why it needs to be done in the first place! He also goes the extra mile to help children open up to him and ask questions so that they feel more at ease. Their natural curiosity is the perfect opportunity to educate them about oral health and why its so important over the course of ones life.
Dr. Dave received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, followed by his dental doctorate at Northwestern University. He then went back to the University of Illinois and completed a pediatric dental residency. Today, he is passionate about providing the best care available, which is why he actively pursues continuing education opportunities. He is particularly interested in learning behavior management techniques, with an emphasis on caring for children with special needs.
When he isnt busy at work, Dr. Dave loves spending quality time with his wife Helen and their two kids Caroline and Matthew. His personal hobbies include fishing, cooking, and cheering on all of the Chicago sports teams, of course!

I have two little guys who are typically afraid of the dentist, they left asking when they go back! I'm a huge fan of this location! Everyone was so nice and the wait was short, and they played games and trains while I waited! Wonder experience!

Wow! What an amazing experience! The staff was so very friendly, kind, and informative and helpful from start to finish! They made my little one so comfortable and he really enjoyed the process. We went for a consult but I'm going to be switching to them as they were so amazing and everything is truly geared towards kids. We had Maggie and Dr. Dave and they were both absolutely excellent! Highly recommend!!

I was extremely nervous as this was my 3yo first time visiting a dentist. Everyone was super nice and explained everything to my toddler step by step in a calm and entertaining way. Hygienists made it such a fun experience and no tears were shed. This is a kid that hates even getting his hair cut (use this a reference) I always have to hold him down and he cries uncontrollably the entire time. Something that wasn't needed at the dentist. Extremely pleased

We've only been coming for a little bit as my son has had 2 appointments so far. I was recommended to this dentist office for my child by a fellow mom who has autistic children. My son is autistic and 3, he's very bright but sometimes it's hard for him to understand what's going on. Both times we've taken him my son has done great with the help of the friendly and inviting environment as well as the sweet and gentle approach the dentist and staff have. So basically take your child here.

Dr. Gutierrez and her staff were wonderful with my 7 year old who has anxiety and some sensory issues. They first suggested him going to a room by himself while I went with his younger sister who was also there for a cleaning. My son was upset and didn't want me to leave him, and the staff immediately shifted plans to have both kids in the same room and made us feel like it was no big deal. Cathy worked with him and talked to him throughout his cleaning and x-rays, explained what she was doing, and gave him a "job" to help with during his cleaning to help distract him from his fears and give him a sense of control over what was happening. I highly recommend this office!

I don't normally leave reviews, but we had such a positive experience here that I want to make sure others know about it! I was a little nervous about bringing my 18 month old son for his first appointment because I knew he probably wouldn't be thrilled about it. I was right about his reaction to it, but it was still an overall extremely positive experience. Everyone was so friendly and understanding. They spoke to my son and also put me at ease, reassuring me that his attitude is very common for his age. I have no doubt that as he gets older and more used to going to the dentist that he will come to enjoy going back too. Thank you!

My son did great and had a regular check up. Only thing I'll note is I was asked by the dental hygienist "so does he suck his thumb or use a pacifier?" Just the assumption instead of asking felt off. I try hard to keep his teeth healthy every day, so it felt rude. My son is 2 about to be 3 and I've never used a pacifier for the exact reason of causing dental issues. He also does not suck his thumb. Once the dentist took a look he said his teeth look great and he doesn't see any issues as his upper molar teeth haven't grown out to indicate an overbite. I'm glad my son did great over all and ended up wanting to brush his teeth more after we got home.

Great place, great staff, and super clean place. My son always gets nervous at the beginning of the appointment but with lots of patience from the hygienist and dentist my son ends up leaving super happy!

This practice might be the only medical facility that still is not allowing patients to enter without calling ahead. You have to wait in the car, then after talking to somewhat at the door, send your kid off and go back to your car. I appreciate being cautious, but literally every other medical facility is allowing patients and parents into their building. Not thrilled that a place entirely geared to kids is not allowing legal guardian in the building. I have been going for years, but if we are going to forever be stuck in 2020 and all of the hassles that involves, I feel no need to stay here.

My son's first dentist appointment and the staff was friendly and helpful. He was scared but he pulled through and was happy in the end. He would not stop telling everyone he went to the dentist and that he got a ducky and sticker no cavity club

I have no complaints about Sonia Gutierrez, she does a good job. However, I can't say the same about the front desk staff. ALL my interactions with front desk have been disrespectful and rude, they are the worst. They get a negative zero on customer service. The front desk staff really tarnishes this dentist. Beware! They fake 5 Star reviews by creating fake google accounts.

Such a warm and welcoming environment for kids. My daughter has been going since she was one and is now 4. She literally ran to the door because she was so excited. The hygienists are kind, patient and wonderful with children. They explain everything in kid terms and make it a fun experience for them. Every staff member we have encountered there has been so accommodating and friendly. Scheduling appointments is easy and they are great at giving reminders. Highly recommend!

I would advise the doctors of this location to do a crash course on politeness and manners when it come to speaking to potential patients and or current patients. I've seen amazing reviews on these doctors but due to the front end staff (not all) but some, I see MAJOR room for improvement. Receptionists are the face of the company; and the face this location displays isn't welcoming at all.
