Dr. Matsui was born in Sapporo, Japan. He grew up in Getzville, N.Y., a suburb of Buffalo, N. Y. He graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry from Cornell University. He received his D.D.S. degree from Howard University College of Dentistry. During dental school, Dr. Matsui was involved with investigating the relationship between pre-term birth weight and periodontal disease in the Division of Periodontics at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Matsui completed his pediatric dental specialty training at Howard University College of Dentistry. During his residency, he investigated the relationship between BMI and premature eruption of premolars. Dr. Matsui is a member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, Virginia Dental Society, and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Matsui and his family reside in Haymarket, VA. He enjoys golf, traveling, and spending time with his son.
Prior to attending dental school, Dr. Richard J. Lee received a Masters of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the George Washington University. For abouttwo years, he worked as a research scientist at the National Institutes of Health, NCI (National Cancer Institute) focusing on the cure for breast cancer.
During his years as a researcher, he acquired a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from The George Washington University. From 1996 to 1999, he worked on projects at the World Health Organization (WHO), the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). His projects involved developing policies on cancer detection and awareness.
Although Dr. Lee enjoyed his work, he felt that his job left him with little interaction with people. Since his father was a reputable physician in the Northern Virginia area (Annandale Family Practice), Dr. Lee was able toobserve the wonderful patient-doctor bond his dad had with his patients. Since Dr. Lee also enjoys working with his hands, he felt dentistry would be the perfect choice for his career.
After receiving his Doctorate of Dental Medicine,he worked as a cosmetic dentist in the 'Riviera of America' (Miami Beach, Florida), where hefocused on creating beautiful smiles. He did aesthetic procedures such as laser teeth whitening, full anterior veneers and full-mouth reconstructions. Dr. Lee practiced fora few years in Miami before he returned back to school to start his orthodontic residency. He chose orthodontics as his dental specialty becauseit follows his passion in developing beautiful smiles, however, now he creates smiles naturally.
Dr. Lee is currently providing top-of-the-line orthodontic care to areas of Northern Virginia and Maryland.Heis active in the community in which he lives and works by attending study clubs and lecturing to local middle and high schools about the importance of orthodontic treatment. To follow the American Association of Orthodontists guidelines, he emphasizes the need to see your local orthodontist by 7 years of age.
Dr. Lee grew up in the Northern Virginia area and attended Cooper Junior High and then Langley High School prior to going to Syracuse for college. He has found that the Washington D.C. metropolitan area has many things to offer as far as culture and fine dining. He enjoys going to the Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap to watch various shows and concerts.Dr. Leeplans to stay in the Northern Virginia area for many years to come.

I've been coming here for 20 years, and Dr. Matsui has never let me down. Even after numerous cavities and dental work because I am lazy, Dr. Matsui has managed to provide flawless services. The front desk is the best in customer service and organization. You can't go wrong here.

The location was convenient, across the street from IHOP and H Mart. It was easy to find. There is sufficient parking. The staff were very courteous, respectful and kind. They helped me maneuver my double stroller through the office and had a nice attitude, lots of smiles. That's something I don't take for granted anymore! They have a TV in the main lobby, and one in the patient room. Normally I am not a fan of TVs everywhere, but in this case it was very helpful. Dr. Matsui was very nice, and so were his assistants. They worked well with my children and didn't have unrealistic expectations. This was just a check-up so I can't speak about skill of procedures beyond the cleaning, but the cleaning was done very well and with great ease. My almost 4 year old was totally hypnotized by the cartoon and would occasionally respond to or follow the request of Dr. Matsui. We left the appointment (our first pediatric dentist visit) with dental hygiene goody bags, balloons, a prize that the kids could pick out themselves, and a good attitude. Overall, we had a great experience and I would definitely recommend this place! :) ------------------------------------------------------------------- 2016 Update: We went for more than just a cleaning. Dr. Matsui works very well with children!! I found his style to be very considerate and gentle without being condescending. He worked quickly and efficiently, and kept my child's anxiety at bay by having friendly names for his tools, giving step by step instructions, and not making the injection obvious. Two cavities were taken care of in under an hour, start to finish. I am pleased with his work and everyone in the whole office. Highly recommend. :)
