Dr. Kirkland was born in Charleston, SC and grew up in South Georgia in Hazlehurst. He is a graduate of Jeff Davis County High School. While in high school, he became interested in Dentistry but decided to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology where he studied Textile Engineering on a full tuition scholar ship. Dr. Kirkland Graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Textile Engineering (Co-operative plan).
After graduating college, he accepted a position in the High Performance Fibers group of AlliedSignal (Now Honeywell) in Richmond, VA. While working to commercialize the high strength Spectra fiber, Dr. Kirkland was awarded eight United States Patents for innovations in Ballistic Armor, Protective Clothing and Flame Retardant Fabrics. After ten years he moved back to Georgia where he worked in the carpet industry first for Synthetic Industries and later Amoco Fabrics and Fibers.
While working in the carpet industry, Dr. Kirkland decided to return school to pursue his original dream of becoming a Dentist. Dr. Kirkland enjoyed dental school and graduated in 2007 earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine. While a dental student, Dr. Kirkland performed research with Dr. David Pashley on a new diagnostic test to measure water infiltration into dental filling materials.
During his last semester of dental school, Dr. Kirkland finalized the purchase of Dr. Philip T. Boswells dental practice in Griffin, GA. Dr. Boswell Retired after over 40 years in private practice. Dr. Kirkland, has been in private practice in Griffin, GA since July 2007. He and his wife of 26 years Lisa and son Daniel live in Zebulon, GA. Over the past ten years, Dr. Kirkland was active as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America having served as a Scout Master, Assistant Scout Master and Order of the Arrow Chapter Advisor. He serves as a volunteer Alumni Mentor to Georgia Tech Students and serves on the Dental School Alumni Advisory Committee. He is an active Member of First Baptist Church, Griffin Georgia where he plays in the Church orchestra.
Dr. Kirkland is a member of the Hinman Dental Society, Southern Crescent Study Club, American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry. He currently serves on the steering committee of the Southern Crescent Technical College Dental Assisting program in Griffin.

I use to get really bad anxiety from going to the dentist, so I always dreaded going. I went for my first visit with Doctor Kirkland and was so nervous. The lady at the front desk Melissa was super sweet. When I got to the back everyone was so sweet and met all of my expectations. Doctor Kirkland was super friendly and made me feel like I had been going to him for years. He was very thorough with his examines and made me feel very confident in him as my dentist. I will definitely be using him from now on.
