He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, and graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He entered Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, Tennessee, and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1983. Hes an active member of the American Dental Association and the National Dental Association.
