Dr. Phillip Kemp has been practicing family and cosmetic dentistry in the Nashville area for over 30 years opening his private practice in 1988 with the goal to provide quality dentistry to his patients. Dr. Kemps passion for dentistry flows from a heart that loves to help others look and feel their best, so they can go and impact the world.
Dr. Kemp is a very skilled cosmetic dentist. He is one of only 350 dentists in the world accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry where he has been a member since 1998. He served two terms on the AACDs Board of Trustees. During his tenure, he helped oversee the Give Back A Smile Program which provides cosmetic dental services to victims of domestic violence. While serving on the Board of Trustees, he chaired the Domestic Violence Survivor Committee. Dr. Kemp won the Partner in Peace Award in 2008 and 2009 for his work with the Give Back a Smile Program and domestic violence. In 2012, Dr. Kemp was awarded the Humanitarian of the Year at the annual meeting of the AACD in Washington DC.
Because of his leadership in the AACD, he was nominated to serve on the Professional Education Committee, which organizes all educational meetings for the academy. He served for three years on this committee and in 2009 co-chaired the 25th Annual Meeting in Hawaii. He was instrumental in helping develop the AACDs online learning platform serving as co-chair for the Technology and E-learning Committee. Dr. Kemp has been a speaker at several national and international AACD meetings, including Vancouver, San Diego, Atlanta and Hawaii. He has also spoken at the Tennessee chapter of the AACD. He lectures frequently at the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry and at Meharry School of Dentistry. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Nashville Dental Society and is a member of the Tennessee Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Kemp is considered an expert in dental photography. He has been asked to speak at numerous dental meetings on the subject of photography including the Annual Sessions of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He has spoken for the Tennessee Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the University of Tennessee Dental School. He serves as an advisor to camera companies and produced an educational video with Calumet Photographic titled Digital Dental Photography. Dr. Kemp is also an avid sports and portrait photographer.
Dr. Kemp serves as a key opinion leader and educator for many dental companies, testing products, developing procedures, and leading educational initiatives. He is currently on the advisory board for Contemporary Product Solutions and has served as co-editor for their publication for three years.
Dr. Kemp is the founder ofHope Smiles, a nonprofit dental organization that provides care for people in underserved areas in the US, Uganda, China and Haiti. These services are made possible through generous community and private financial support, donated materials and volunteer dental professionals. Hope Smiles has organized many dental serve trips to China, Uganda, Haiti, and local and rural areas throughout Tennessee, Texas, and Washington D.C. In China, Uganda and Haiti, most of the care occurs in orphanages and care centers for very poor and underserved.
A native Middle Tennessean, Dr. Kemp lives in Brentwood with his wife of over 30 years, Rhonda, and their four children Tyler, Nolan, Peyton and Macy Li who they adopted from China in 2008. He loves hunting, coaching, photography, and spending time with his family.

I've been patient of Dr.Kemp since he opened his original practice in Hermitage in the early 1990's. Until this month, I have always received excellent care from "Dr. Kemp, his hygienist and the support staff. All of the team members Treated patients like family and made everyone feel like a valued customer. This all changed in November 2022- However.... it isn't the first time this has happened. NOTE: "Growth is only sustainable if quality can be sustained " Many years ago; Dr. Kemp took a partner, when he opened a new office to Brentwood. Unfortunately, the partner dentist did not provide the same quality of care as Dr. Kemp and the partnership dissolved. For me, that partnership had lasting impact on my mouth. To this day I have issues with the work this dentist did in my mouth. After this partnership ended, I vowed to only to be seen by Dr. Kemp. **Fast forwarded to November 2022- The practice has now vastly expanded the office size, ability to see more patients and also includes a New Dr.Kemp.. the son of Dr. Phillip Kemp. I am happy for the practice and the son. ***AREA OF CONCERN**** 1- , I was not at all pleased to have the new Dentist change pushed on me without first inquiring, "if I wanted to have a new dentist?" The answer would have been . "No, I do not!" 2- I am in need of 3 expensive procedures which I am not comfortable having his son perform. This isn't because I don't trust this new dentist, but because I do not and did not ask for a "new dentist". 3- Even more concerning is the fact : I was not consulted regarding this matter..My appointment was not made to see another dentist! **Appointment Review Due to this recent experience, combined with 30 years of patient loyalty, I am considering seeking another dentist for my future dental needs . This decision is based on my recent appointment experience combined with the previous growth experiences with this office. The current visit was a flashback experience and the current changes were so a drastic i I wanted to leave while waiting to be seen. Unfortunately, my fears were confirmed. . Aside from the inconsiderate Change in my provider was the huge change in the office staffed demeanor and hygienist competence. *I was asked to arrive early by office staff. I arrived 20 minutes early, Only to wait an hour plus then given a gift card for my inconvenience of arriving early and being seen over 45 minutes past my actual appointment time. Why call me and say come early in the first place? *The hygienist was not at all Thorough. I have had enough exams in 50 years to know she left out important screening portion of the pre-cleaning screening and rushed through the cleaning portion of my hygiene exam. * 1- She did not do my gum measurement inspection! *2- Hygienist was extremely rough *3- Hygienist continued pressing the suction tube on my gums after I asked multiple times for her to stop. my mouth has hurt for 5 days. *4- Hygienist did not listen to my concerns. So much so , that the information she relayed to the dentist was a complete contrast to my actual complaints and/or answers to her specific questions. *5- Hygienist definitely did not provide the level of quality care I am accustomed to receiving at Kemp Dental. ***FINAL REMARKS*** Growth is good for business but where my wallet and teeth are concerned The quality isn't keeping up with the growth at Kemp Dental. Sadly, I can no longer give a 5 star rating to the care I received. It is the first time in 3 decades the care I received was not excellent. I felt like a chart number not a long term patient!

My dental hygienist, Grayson and the rest of the staff are truly so comforting and sweet to be around. Dr Kemp leads with love and and gentleness and never makes you feel uncomfortable. If you're looking for a "family" type of feeling/experience, this is the place for you. I can't say enough positive things about each and ever time I have been there. I always leave with a smile, feeling hopeful and excited about my next visit!

I have only had good experiences with Kemp Dental. And, you deal with really caring and nice people from the time you walk in until the time you leave. I am a difficult person to do dental work on. I have a cancer history that left me with a lot of dental problems due to radiation therapy. And, if anyone knows what that's like to deal with on your on...you can only imagine what the dentist have to deal with. But, they've always make me feel comfortable . And, they go out of there way to figure out how they are going to help me. In other words they use their knowledge and they think "outside" the box! And, in my case that's makes all the difference for someone like me. And, I'm so grateful to have found Kemp Dental!

The staff was extremely friendly, attentive, and very informative. This may be the first time I've ever fully understood what a dentist was doing to my teeth and why it needed to be done. They informed me every step of the way what they were doing next and answered all of my questions to ease any of my anxiety about the visit. Kellie was with me most of the time, and she was wonderful!

I was just at Kemp Dental today and Kate snd I were reminiscing about when I first came 2 + years ago. Teeth are so much better and healthier. Kate said keep doing what I am doing. It was nice to hear that overcoming my fears was so worth it. Dr. Kemp and now Dr. Nolen are so kind, gentle and very appreciative of my business. It is a pleasure going to the dentist! September 9, 2021 Kate is always very professional. She knows me well even though it has only been 2 years that I have been going to Kemp Dental. Everyone cares and is so kind and gentle for those of us who are not fond of coming to the dentist.

This was my second time going to Dr. Kemp. My husband has been going to him for over 20+ years. Now that I'm going to Kemp Dental I can't see myself trusting my Dental needs to anyone else. The whole staff is super friendly and very helpful. Can't say enough about Dr.Kemp.
