Gregory V. Keating was born and raised in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. In May, 1975, he graduated cum laude from Duke University with a double-major degree in German-Zoology and Academic Distinction in Germanic Languages and Literature. While working on a masters degree in electrical engineering at Drexel University, he shifted gears and attended the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine, as a recipient of the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship, graduating in May, 1980.
Upon graduation from dental school, CAPT Keating began his full-time active duty career as a Lieutenant at the Branch Dental Clinic, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA. In June, 1982, he reported aboard the USS America (CV 66) for duty as a general dentist and division officer. After being intensively underway aboard America for 16 of 18 months, he transferred to Naval Dental Clinic, Norfolk, VA, awaiting the start of specialty training in prosthodontics at the Naval Dental School, Bethesda, MD. In May, 1986, LT Keating completed specialty training and immediately transferred to USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), as interim department head and prosthodontist. Completing a three-year tour aboard Ike, LCDR Keating reported to Naval Dental Clinic, Norfolk, VA where he successfully became board certified in prosthodontics in 1991. The Keating family transferred overseas to Agana, Guam in August, 1992, remaining for a three-year tour, during which CDR Keating served as prosthodontist, branch director, and clinic director and received recognition from the Governor of Guam for outstanding service to the community during the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the War in the Pacific. Returning to Bethesda, MD in July, 1995 for duty as associate professor in prosthodontics at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School, CAPT Keating taught residents in the prosthodontic dentistry and comprehensive dentistry programs for five years and then transferred to Branch Dental Clinic, Washington Navy Yard as prosthodontist until his retirement in February, 2004, when he began private practice.
Dr. Keating is a Fellow in the American College of Prosthodontists, a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a member of the Association of Osseointegration, and a member of the American Dental Association.
