Youre brushing your teeth like you do every night, and when you look down in the sink, you see a distinctive pink colorjust like you have the past few nights. Minor oral bleeding is a very common symptom of early-stage periodontal (gum) disease, and left untreated, it can lead to swelling, tenderness, and even tooth loss! To get your gum health under control and protect your entire smile, our team can provide a number of treatments specially designed to eliminate the infection at the source. If your gums arent looking or feeling their best lately, be sure to give our Wheaton dental office a call.
If were able to catch gum disease early enough, a scaling and root planing treatment is likely all well need to do to stop the infection in its tracks. Think of it as a dental cleaning that is just for your gums. First, well remove plaque and bacteria from below your gum line and the tiny spaces between your teeth (scaling), and then well slightly reshape the roots of your teeth to make them smoother (root planing). Why do this? This will prevent plaque from accumulating around the gums in the future, helping a patient avoid reinfection.
Gum disease bacteria is able to hide very deeply below the gum line, often out of reach of our teams cleaning tools. In order to kill it, we may have a patient take an oral antibiotic for a few days, or we might apply a topical solution directly to the gums. These will just make sure that we have removed all of the infection so that it doesnt have the ability to come back.
Bridges get their name from the fact that they literally bridge the gap between one or more missing teeth in a row. Dr. Lam will place dental crowns on the teeth adjacent to the missing ones, and these will be used to support prosthetic teeth that fill in the space. They can replace a single tooth and up to three consecutive ones, and they can be fixed or removable depending on a patients preferences.
Dentures have been helping people with several missing teeth eat, speak, and smile with confidence for generations, and right here in Wheaton, you can get the very best dental prosthetics that modern-day dentistry has to offer. Our dentures are made using custom-crafted ceramic teeth that are attached to a realistic-looking gum-colored base, helping them blend seamlessly into any smile. Whether you are missing just a few teeth or an entire row, we can make a denture that has the perfect look and fit just for you.
For patients looking for a permanent solution to their tooth loss, were ready and able to give it to them.
