' My vision is a practice where each patient achieves absolute health and dental stability without the need for dental intervention for their lifetime. Given new understanding about the cause of dental disease and techniques for prevention, this is now more achievable than ever. '

Dr. Brown has been practicing dentistry in the Bay Area since 2003. In 2009, she began her practice in Atherton. In 2014, she joined this practice in Menlo Park. With a strong background in preventive strategies and wellness, Dr. Brown strives to help each patient achieve health and well-being. Dr. Brown is trained in occlusion, dental sleep medicine, digital imaging, Bioesthetics, full mouth rehabilitation, and functional dentistry. She has trained with the nations leaders in dental education in order to bring her patients the best that dentistry has to offer.

Dr. Brown holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the distinguished University of California, San Francisco, School of Dentistry. Upon graduation, she earned several of the schools highest honors, including the Francis A. Sooy Award for Exemplary Ethical and Professional Standards. She was also admitted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honors Society, whose membership is reserved for the top 10% of graduates. Dr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from the University of Oregon Clark Honors College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.

When she is not at work in her practice, you can find Dr. Brown at home in San Carlos, caring for and absolutely loving her two children, or at the gym enjoying boxing, Zumba, and weight training. Dr. Brown is an active member of the Academy of Bioesthetic Dentistry and is one of approximately 300 clinicians worldwide who have completed the curriculum in Bioesthetics. She is active in the local professional community and is a member of the Mid-Peninsula Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and the California Dental Association.

  • American Academy of Dental Practice Administration Award for most professional growth in managerial skills and development of outstanding performance in four-handed dentistry, University of California, San Francisco, School of Dentistry (2003)

Dr. Nasakin has been practicing in the Bay Area since 2012. He joined the practice of Dr. Brown in 2018. As a general dentist, Dr. Nasakin has had extensive training in advanced restorative dentistry, implant dentistry, root canal therapy, and oral surgery. He is currently focused on mastering the art of dental occlusion and TMJ therapy with Orognathic Bioesthetic International.

Dr. Nasakin completed his undergraduate degree at U.C. Davis in neurology, physiology, and behavior. His doctoral training brought him to New York University where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2010. Following the standard four-year dental training, he undertook an additional two years of advanced, hospital-based training in general practice at Staten Island University Hospital.

Dr. Nasakin is active in the California Dental Association and the Mid-Peninsula Dental Society. He is dedicated to giving back to our community and regularly volunteers to treat the underserved through various volunteer organizations such as the Berkeley Free Clinic, CDA CARES, and California Careforce. In his free time, Dr. Nasakin can be found outdoors, camping, rock-climbing, or riding his motorcycle. When forced to be indoors, he enjoys collecting vinyl records, listening to music, reading, and tinkering with anything that can be fixed.

'Good oral health is of paramount importance to overall wellbeing. I feel tremendous gratification when my patients trust me to provide thorough and gentle treatment, and to encourage them to make good dental health essential to their lives..'

A seasoned hygienist with over 35 years of experience, Joan has worked in this office since 1988 and has been caring for her patients with her gentle touch and encouraging spirit ever since. Her career has taken her from working as a dental assistant to providing dental hygiene care to the underprivileged in rural Mexico alongside the Flying Doctors. She is a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association and the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health.

Joan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the College of Notre Dame, as well as a dental hygiene degree from Foothill College. She is the recipient of the Hu Friedy Golden Scaler Award, a national award for clinical and technical excellence. Joan is certified in laser periodontal procedures including laser bacterial reduction and laser-assisted periodontal therapy. She has formally studied the CAMBRA (Caries Management by Risk Assessment) with Dr. John Featherstone and remains current with recommended protocols to prevent decay. Joan attends regular conferences with the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health where she stays up to date on the latest in preventive medicine and dentistry, including the role of oral pathogens on systemic health and the positive benefits of probiotics. She is a student of bioesthetics and is well-versed in the role of malocclusion on periodontal health. Other topics of study include the role of diet in disease prevention, advanced instrumentation techniques, and strategies for controlling the deleterious effects of xerostomia.

Debbie brings over 40 years of dental experience to our practice. Over the course of her career, she has pursued skills in several areas of advanced hygiene practice including the use of LASERS, local pharmacotherapy, dental anesthesia, and DNA / microbiological testing. Her many years of experience working with periodontal surgeons allows her to bring a higher level of knowledge and ability to our patients.

As a registered dental hygienist in alternative practice (RDHAP) Debra has achieved one of the highest levels of education available to hygienists. The requirements for this level of certification are rigorous and include over 35 hours of continuing education and thousands of hours of experience. As an RDHAP, Debra is one of the few hygienists in California licensed to operate independently. Her formal studies also include education in diet and prevention strategies with the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health as well as course work in occlusion and lasers.

Before beginning her career in dental hygiene over 11 years ago, Briana worked as an oral surgery assistant where she developed a passion for caring for patients and an appreciation for the possibilities that dentistry holds for her patients health and well being. When she is not practicing in our office Briana works alongside a periodontal specialist where she continues to hone her skill and knowledge level every day.

I like everything about being a dental assistant. I love having a personal relationship with my patients and knowing who they are and how to help them achieve their health goals. It is such a privilege to be able to aid a patient through the challenges of undergoing a dental procedure. The best part of my job is directly educating my patient and seeing their dental work come to life from start to finish. I especially love the comradery with my teammates and collaborating to solve challenges in the office.

Monica brings over 20-years of dental experience to our office and has expertise in complex, adult restorative procedures in prosthodontist specialties and implant dentistry. Because she began her career in the early era of modern dentistry, she has unique knowledge of protocols and procedures needed to manage early dental implants and restorative systems. She has significant training in dental laboratory work and operates as our in-house laboratory technician. A former independent dental consultant who developed and implemented OSHA and infection control procedures for several local dental offices, Monica now manages the clinical procedures and policies for our office. She is an intrepid innovator, and has helped our office implement new technologies including digital dentistry, laser dentistry, and dental photography. Monica is also an active volunteer in our community, and served as a volunteer dental screener for the US Military during the Gulf War.

Monica graduated from Gunn High School in Palo Alto where she was a varsity athlete in track and field and performed on the Junior Olympic Team as a sprinter. She went on to pursue training in nursing, but had to stop to take care of family. As luck would have it, she later discovered dental assisting and attended San Jose City College where she earned her RDA license. A consummate student, Monica maintains a vigorous schedule of continuing education, studying functional medicine and nutrition with the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health, and functional occlusion with Orognathic Bioesthetic Institute. She maintains an active CPR license and is trained in OSHA and infection control.

Monica spends her weekends and free time raising two wonderful boys and cultivating their athletic pursuits in several sports, including football and track. When she isnt attending practices and games, she can be found hiking Mission Peak, riding her bike along Shorline, doing Zumba and lifting weights at the gym, and studying fashion arts. A novice traveler, Monica has set out to visit several countries across the globe.

Lizette has worked in the Menlo Park office since 1988 and has over 30-years of experience in dentistry. Formerly a dental assistant, she took over responsibility for business operations in 1996. Lizette manages the administrative duties of our practice, patient relationships, marketing, and coordination of clinical care. A natural teacher and leader, Lizette has consulted with several other dental practices, helping the office transition to a health-centered practice.

Lizette graduated from The Bryman School of Business in 1983 with a Dental Assisting Certificate, and received her Registered Dental Assisting Certification in 1984. She also completed training at the Schuster Center in Arizona for Professional Development, with a focus on team-building and practice-development.

Elizabeth began her career in dentistry over 25-years ago as a dental assistant. She quickly found her niche managing the office and the practice, but she maintains her passion for caring for people and helping them meet their needs. Currently, Elizabeth focuses on supporting our team by organizing our staff- and educational- experiences, and organizing systems to ensure that every patient can coordinate their treatment and maximize the value of their dental expenditures and insurance benefits. She has expertly guided the practice since 2009 when she began working with Dr. Brown, and continues to support the business and the practice vision.

Elizabeth completed her training as a dental assistant in 1994. In addition to holding an Associates degree in Science from Caada College, she is certified in Quickbooks, Medical Billing, and Dentrix. She attends many of the clinical continuing education courses alongside our clinicians to ensure that the business practices maintain pace with the clinical practice.

Elizabeth had her husband have an 8-year old son. They love to spend their time enjoying the California weather and great outdoors, and they regularly travel across the world to enjoy different cultures. Liz is also an active volunteer in our community, and a committed religious educator.

Bioesthetic dentistry is a philosophy of restorative dentistry based on the model of health found in nature. The parameters of Bioesthetics were established in 1978 by Dr. Robert Lee after a careful and thorough study of patients with no decay, no gum disease, and no problems with their bite or jaw joint. After careful analysis, he determined a set of restorative guidelines that were likely to generate health and stability for the patient.

Because the shape and function of bioesthetic restorations are based on ideal natural systems, the restorations are more likely to look great, fit and feel right, and last a long time. Following the natural model is helpful in the case of simple fillings and porcelain restorations, but it is especially helpful when restoring the entire dentition (chewing system) for patients with significant breakdown. Using bioesthetic principles to restore an entire chewing system is called Bioesthetic Rejuvenation.

Sometimes patients have so much wear and tear on their teeth or so many problems with their bite and joint that we essentially need to start over. This is analogous to a complete home remodel or building a new structure. The objective of this process is to recreate a healthy, balanced system that adheres to the strict parameters found in nature.

The first step in bioesthetic rejuvenation is to rehabilitate the joint. Just as builders need a stable foundation before they can erect a new structure, bioesthetic dentists need a stable joint before they can design new teeth and dental restorations. This is the most important part of recreating your healthy bite and chewing system.

Once the healthy joint position is determined, we can devise a plan to restore the teeth to support this healthy position. Using the analogy of building a home, this step is similar to an architectural drawing. A bioesthetic laboratory technician uses bioesthetic principles to design a plan in wax (or digitally) to bring all the teeth together ideally and to function ideally when chewing, speaking, and swallowing.

Once the plan is devised and agreed upon, the dentistry can be delivered in any number of ways. Some patients require only minor modifications to the teeth, either smoothing down high spots or adding a small amount of composite to restore worn teeth. Others require orthodontia and surgery in addition to multiple restorations. Still other patients opt for temporary or direct composite restorations, then replace these with custom laboratory-fabricated restorations over time.

A Bioesthetic Rejuvenation goes well beyond a cosmetic smile design or any other cosmetic endeavor. Because Bioesthetics takes into consideration the comfort and stability of the joint, its results transcend the appearance of the smile and have a profound effect on the appearance of the entire face, as well as the function of the chewing system and the comfort of the joint, head, and neck. Again to use the analogy of construction: a cosmetic smile makeover is similar to refacing kitchen cabinets, whereas a Bioesthetic rejuvenation is similar to a full kitchen remodel.

Just met Dr. Brown last week when I had a dental emergency. My previous dentist is retiring, and referred her to me. She worked me into her schedule the morning I called, diagnosed the issue, and developed a treatment plan that I started the same day. Dr. Brown is extremely knowledgable about dentistry and current best practices. Her staff is friendly and efficient.

I am a dentist and know how dentistry should be done and whether the results are good or not. I chose Dr. Brown because of the superior quality of care that she and her staff provide. I drive 149 miles one way to be sure that I am getting the best care possible. If you live closer than that, lucky you!

Dr. Brown's practice is all about extraordinary skill mixed with humor and excellent communication! I actually have FUN during my dental appointments with Dr. Brown (and during my cleaning appointments with Debbie). No kidding! Dr. Brown pays incredible attention to her patients. We've all been in this situation: sitting in "the chair", wanting the dentist to stop for a minute, either because we need to ask/tell them something, or "just because". Dr. Brown has some kind of supernatural ability to know when you need her to stop. The work Dr. Brown does is SUPERB every single time. Meticulous and perfect. Period. I especially appreciate that she assigns levels of urgency to each piece of work that needs to be done, allowing her patients to make the most informed decisions about what to do next, depending on time and budget availability. Dr. Brown looks at you as a complete human being at every visit. When life throws you curve balls, she has practical solutions ranging from the more simple ones like how to get better home oral care done in spite of yourself, to the more complicated ones like helping to resolve a health problem related to head/neck musculature that is affected by chewing muscles. Her staff is terrific. Like Dr. Brown, they, too, have very high standards AND are fun to be around! Many thanks to Liz, Sarah and Debbie.

I was taken care of promptly and cheerfully. Debbie did my cleaning and as always she did it sensitively and painlessly, which I greatly appreciate. Dr. Brown is always careful and responsive in her examinations.

As always, great teeth cleaning experience. Really thorough, confident and gentle hygienists. Staff is always helpful, professional and friendly. And Dr. Brown is the best dentist I've ever had -- always so patient and concerned about each procedure she has done to my teeth, which has been extensive and very successful. I highly recommend using this dental office!
