Beautifully straight smiles seem to be everywhere we turn. Of course, many of them werent naturally straight. In fact, most people are dealing with slightly crooked or misaligned smiles. Fortunately, advanced dental technology has made it possible for our West Bloomfield, MI, dentist Dr. Katharine Murphy-Brown to offer teen and adult patients more discreet and nearly invisible ways to straighten their smiles. Invisalign has become a very popular orthodontic alternative for our patients.
Invisalign is a series of clear aligners that are custom-made to fit over your teeth. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks at a time, after which you will replace that aligner with the next one in your treatment plan. Over time, the aligners will help to shift the teeth into their proper place. Invisalign also corrects a variety of dental problems including crooked teeth, crossbites, overbites, underbites, gaps between teeth, and overcrowding.
The major benefit of Invisalign is that its completely clear, so people wont notice your braces. This makes it an ideal treatment for many of our older teen and adult patients who want a straighter smile but dont want to sport a smile with metal.
Another advantage is that Invisalign aligners can be removed, so you dont have to worry about things you can and cant eat. No food is off-limits while you are wearing Invisalign. Just remove your aligners before eating and drinking. Its that simple!
Since these aligners are removable, you also dont need to change your daily brushing and flossing habits. Furthermore, because you arent dealing with metal wires and brackets you wont have to worry about gently getting around your braces to clean between teeth and other hard-to-reach spots.
Invisalign is also custom-made to fit over your teeth, so youll find that your aligners are incredibly comfortable and less like to cause gum irritation than other orthodontic options. The comfortable, flexible plastic used to craft Invisalign aligners makes them easy to wear.
Every smile is different but most adults and older teens dealing with minor to moderate misalignments are great candidates for Invisalign. Our dental team can examine your smile and easily determine whether Invisalign is the perfect fit for you.
