Kastner Dental - General dentist in Toledo, OH

Kastner Dental Care uses digital x-rays in our office to allow immediate viewing of dental images. Digital radiographs reduce processing time and can be enlarged or color enhanced for easier viewing and diagnosis. Digital sensors also allow for less radiation to capture images on the computer.

Commonly referred to as fillings, composite restorations treat fractured, decayed, or chipped teeth both functionally and cosmetically. Glass-based composite material adds strength and durability to restored teeth. These fillings do not tarnish or corrode in the mouth, enabling leakage and promoting new tooth decay, like traditional amalgam (silver) fillings.See our policy on composite fillings.

Bridges fill the spaces between your teeth to prevent drifting of teeth that can misalign your bite and cause even more tooth loss or jaw problems. Bridgework is an effective method for replacing congenitally mi8ssing or extracted teeth and involves preparing teeth on either side of the space to allow placement of a permanent structure.

Crowns cover the adjacent teeth as anchors attached to the replacement tooth placed over the empty space. Crowns can be used to cover fractured teeth, teeth that have a large filling that is breaking down, teeth that have had a root canal done, or teeth that have been severely decayed. Crowns strengthen and protect your tooth and can be used to enhance the cosmetic appearance of your teeth.

Veneers are used to enhance the appearance of your front teeth. They cover the fronts of your teeth and wrap around the sides and tips of the teeth. With newly available technology, veneers can be thinner and stronger than ever before. Patients need to be good candidates for veneers. If you grind your teeth, you may need a bite appliance to be worn at night to protect the veneers.

Kastner Dental provides periodontal therapy for patients with pocketing around their teeth which creates a difficult area for them to clean on their own. Frequent maintenance visits are required to ensure cleanliness and to prevent further gum and bone damage. Scaling and root planning are used to effectively remove debris deep below the gums.

Dr. Kastner has extensive experience in providing dental implants for missing teeth. Dental implants are becoming the preferred method of replacing missing teeth because they look and feel like natural teeth. They provide stable support for artificial teeth and won't shift or slide. Dental implants are metal posts that are surgically implanted into the jawbone beneath your gums. The posts provide the framework for your dentist to mount artificial teeth. Dr. Kastner also restores dental implants.

In 1977, Dr. Kastner received his B.S. in biology and chemistry from Manchester College in Indiana. He received his D.D.S. degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1981 and has been a practicing dentist in the Toledo area since 1983.

Dr. Kastner is a member of the American Dental Association, the Ohio Dental Association and the Toledo Dental Society. He has also maintained membership in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry since 1993. His other memberships include the American Society of Forensic Odontology, the American College of Oral Implantology, the American Society of Osseointegration, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

Dr. Kastner has served on the Board of Directors of the Toledo Dental Society and was elected to the Executive Board as President in 2002. Since 1998, he has been a delegate or alternate delegate to the Ohio Dental Association House of Delegates and is seated on their Statewide Subcouncil on Peer Review.

On six occasions, Dr. Kastner has been awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the American Dental Association for volunteer work in the Dominican Republic (1985, 1987), Costa Rica (1990), Nepal (1994), and Nicaragua (2000, 2001). He has also provided humanitarian service in Guatemala.

In December 2001, Dr. Kastner assisted the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York in the dental identification of World Trade Center victims. He was presented with an American Spirit Award by Ohio Governor Bob Taft and Certificate of Recognition from the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York and New York Congressman Voto J. Fossella.

Don't ever go to Kastner's dental office off central. The staff has the worst bedside manner of any medical office I've ever been to. My first visit, I mentioned that my previous dentist had made inappropriate comments about how much saliva is in my mouth and it made me uncomfortable. This dentist heard that and began to start calling me "Niagara Falls" in reference to the amount of saliva in my mouth. The staff also made jokes about the amount of pain I was in during my last visit. I was crying out in pain and they thought that was a good time to joke about me and try to minimize the amount of pain I was in. This visit I was having a panic attack because I wasn't feeling the effects of the nitrous. There were no attempts to help, no support, no asking if there's anything they can do to help. Just a dry "you're hyperventilating" repeated over and over. I don't know if you've ever had a panic attack but someone standing there and repeating over and over that you're having one doesn't help the situation. The staff was more concerned with the other patients hearing profanity than with a patient panicking and not feeling any effects of nitrous. I left without getting anything done because I didn't trust them to be concerned with what's inside my mouth if they weren't concerned with any of the words coming out of it. Zero stars if I could.

He's rude, doesn't listen, to the point of ignoring, and extremely disrespectful! I ended up leaving in the middle of getting work done. I would recommend anyone I talk to, to stay away from this "dentist," a term I use very loosely with him.
