Dr. Kaplan grew up in New York City and graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 1973. His mother always told him that he couldnt inherit the NYC Fire Department where his father worked so he followed his uncles role model and attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1977. He met his future wife, Jacqueline, at the U of P. They settled in the Albany area around 1980.

His professional affiliations include the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Schenectady Dental Society, and the local Implant Study Club. He received his implant training at the Boston Seminars for Implant Study in 1995 and received his orthodontic training and diplomate status with Light Force America in 2010. His list of continuing education courses is extensive. In recent years, it is highlighted by Institute for Comprehensive Implant Study and Esthetics in Boston, annual attendance at the Yankee Dental Congress in Boston, and Fourth District Meeting in Saratoga.

Dr. Kaplan and his wife like to travel each year and while they wouldnt call themselves globe trotters, they had enjoyed seeing a good deal of the world. They are sports enthusiasts and enjoy skiing, cycling, and hiking. Both Emily and Aaron, their children, are excellent skiers and Dr. Kaplan has lived long enough to know the three most dangerous words in the English language, follow me, Dad. If you have read all through this, Dr. Kaplan would love for you to come to the office and meet not only himself but his excellent staff.

I have a dental emergency, when can I be seen? Please call us. Tell us your problem. We see almost every one that day if they are in pain, have a fractured tooth, a playground accident or broken or missing front tooth emergency.

I have dental insurance. Do you accept my dental insurance? Dental insurance is a wonderful benefit which enables people to achieve their goals. We help every one file their insurance claims. Please bring your insurance information to the office. After an insurance benefit has been received the balance of your bill is your responsibility. In general we are not participating providers for insurance companies such as GHI.We do participate with one program, the United States Military Family Assistance program administered by United Concordia.

Can I arrange a payment plan? Yes. After establishing a treatment plan, financial plans are arranged. We accept major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. Financed plans can also be arranged through Care Credit, a dental credit card company,

Will I need dental x-rays? If you have a recent set of dental x-rays, no. If not, we would take the appropriate x-rays for your present dental condition. We will assist you with x-ray release forms if your x-rays are at a previous dentist.

Food particles are naturally attracted to a tooth's enamel by a certain protein. Products like coffee and tea, berries and soy sauce are notorious for staining teeth. Over time, teeth actually become more absorbent and vulnerable to staining from food and other substances.

One type of staincaused by traumatic injuries, medications and fluorosisactually begins inside the tooth; brushing and flossing dont help. Another type of stainone that can be more easily attacked by brushing, flossing and rinsingis caused by external factors such as foods.

Some commercially available 'whitening toothpastes' can be somewhat effective at removing stains and making teeth a few shades brighter. However, many of these products have abrasive substances that can actually wear away your tooth 's enamel.

Whitening agents actually change the color of your teeth, but only are effective on certain types of stains. For example, bleaching agents have a difficult time removing brownish or grayish stains. These products also are not as effective on pitted or badly discolored teeth, or on restorations such as crowns, bridges, bonding and tooth-colored fillings (porcelain veneers or dental bonding may be more appropriate in this case).

Professional whitening performed by our office is considered to be the most effective and safest method; done properly, tooth whitening can last as long as five years. Over-the-counter whitening systems are somewhat effective as long as they are monitored and directions followed closely.

Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone or metal framework on the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures.

Not everyone is a candidate for a dental implant, however. For a successful implant to take hold, a candidate must have proper bone density and have a strong immune system. In all cases, dental implants require strict oral hygiene.

Surgery is necessary to prepare the area for an implant and place the implant in the mouth. Following the procedure, a period of time is required for the implant to take hold and for bone tissue to build up and anchor the device. In some cases, metal posts are inserted into the implant during a follow-up procedure to connect the tooth.

Dr. Kaplan and the office staff were very good to me. I have a regular dentist, but he is located a long distance from where I was staying at the time.. I was visiting my sister when I felt something was wrong, and Dr. Kaplan checked very carefully to see what the problem was. I was so grateful for his thorough examination and gentleness. He is a great dentist!

Dr. Kaplan and his team of professionals are amazing. He has been our family Dentist for decades. His work is honest and flawless and so is his staff. They work with insurance companies and are always in contact with you. They NEVER leave you hanging. When you call they always go out of their way to fit you in. Dr. Kaplan, in the past has actually meet us in his office on his days off and after hours to take care of emergences that have occurred. He and his team of professionals stand for nothing less than pure passion, pride and perfection to his patients. That is who they are and what they stand for. Dr. Kaplan and his remarkable staff is what excellent dentistry is all about. They are dedicated to you, your health and your smile. Dr.Kaplan and his fabulous staff are compassionate, caring and calming. Dr. Kaplan explains all procedures throughly creates and discusses a treatment plan and steps into immediate action for the well-being of his patient. I am an anxious person when I go to the dentist like many people are between his calm demeanor and his efficient dental staff I feel an overwhelming sense of security which in turn eases my anxiety. Mickale is a fabulous assistant always pleasant and just engaging Danielle the hygienist is equally pleasant and thorough. I would strongly recommend Dr. Kaplan as a dentist and I am certain that his other patients all feel the same way.

About 9 years ago my sister recommended Dr. Kaplan to me. That was a lucky day for our family! First off, Dr. Kaplan is a great dentist. When I told him I really didn't like my smile he suggested I do something about it. I got braces and couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Kaplan did a great job! He has also taken amazing care of my husband whenever he has had a dental emergency, which unfortunately has happened more than once. The office staff is like a family. They have all been there for years and they are just fun to be around. They are all very professional and efficient but at the same time they include you in their comradery. I highly recommend this practice to anyone who is looking for a good dentist and an enjoyable place to visit.
