A native of Lawson, Missouri, Dr. Nelson Kanning graduated from Lawson High School in 1996. After participating on the University of Kansas football team, Dr. Nelson, as he is also known, earned his B.S. at William Jewell College, with an emphasis in Leadership and Biology.

He went on to serve as a trainer, consultant, and capital campaign fundraiser for Sigma Nu Fraternity and William Jewell College before deciding to pursue his lifelong dream: following his fathers (Dr. Larry Kanning) footsteps into the family dentistry practice in Lawson, MO.

Dr. Kanning graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry, with Endodontic Honors and served as the founding president of the Undergraduate Esthetics Club. He returned to Lawson as he has a heart for rural areas and is committed to offering these communities and his patients state-of-the-art technology and high-level dentistry.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Kanning enjoys spending time with his best friend and wife Amy, their son Hayes and their daughter Collins. Together they enjoy time in the outdoors- mountain biking, water skiing, camping, but he especially loves perfecting the art of striping his front and back lawns.

Dr. Matt Tippin grew up in rural Kansas, near the Wichita area. He earned his B.S. degree in Food Science from Kansas State University, then went on to receive his doctorate of dental surgery from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2013.While studying in KC, he met his lovely wife, Emily, who is from Kearney, MO.

After spending 5 years practicing dentistry in Newton, KS, Dr. Tippin returned back to the area and is very excited about continuing his practice at Kanning Dental. He is proud to be associated with the Kanning Dental team and strives to make dentistry comfortable for the entire family.

Dentistry has always been part of Dr. Lippolds world. From his early years, in Overland Park, KS playing in his mothers dental office, to working as a dental assistant for 7 years in a Prosthodontist office in Prairie Village, KS, Dr. Lippold has grown up in the dental world. Those experiences not only provided him with a great deal of dental knowledge but also fostered his desire to pursue dentistry as his own career.

Dr. Lippold graduated from UMKC with a B.A. in Chemistry, then continued on to UMKCs School of Dentistry to obtain his Doctorate in Dental Surgery. During his third year of dental school, his peers and professors could see first-hand his hard work and dedication to his course work and clinical work, and he was voted Student of the Year, an award in which Dr. Lippold is proud and humbled to have received.

The practical experience he received working for a Prosthodontist and the clinical experience through dental school, positioned Dr. Lippold far beyond most dentists in their early careers. His love for serving patients, relieving their pain, and walking along with them toward better health is what keeps him passionate about being a dentist. He greatly enjoys working at Kanning Dental and the welcomed slower pace and rural setting have allowed him to develop neat relationships with his patients.

Dr. Lippold stays busy when hes not in Lawson. He can be found at home in Overland Park, chasing around his two kids, Benedict and Charlotte Grace, or outdoors gardening, being an avid Chiefs fan, or just reading a great book. Hes also been known to have a bow and arrow in his hands as he loves archery.
