Dr. Tommy Kakouras was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Myers Park High School in 1992. After graduating from Emory University in Atlanta with a degree in Biology, he attended Boston University School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctorate in Medical Dentistry with Honors.
Dr. Kakouras then continued his training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in a one year residency program. There, he earned a certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry with an emphasis on cosmetic and implant dentistry. Dr. Kakouras is licensed in Massachusetts and North Carolina.
Dr. Kakouras strives to maintain the highest standard of care through continued education in dentistry and involvement in the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Association and the Charlotte Dental Society. He is also committed to earning his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry which requires 500 additional hours of continued education training.

Dr Tommy is like a machine. He knows exactly what to do in any circumstance and does with precision and no pain. Can't ask for a better dental experience. The staff and hygienist are friendly and move at the pace with Dr Tommy. Professional, informative and cares for the patient with dental work and financially. Stop by for your cleanings and major dental work, they got you covered. Two crowns with root canal in an hour.

I've gone to Kakouras Family Dentistry several times and I wouldn't go anywhere else! Everyone working is so friendly and helpful. They're very respectful of how busy their patients are and get them in and out as quickly as possible. They also keep early morning hours so that I'm able to stop in on my way to work! They make you feel comfortable and try to make it as relaxing as possible. Sometimes I forget I'm even at the dentist. I have and will continue to suggest Kakouras Family Dentistry to anyone in the Charlotte area. It's got a great convenient location with ample parking. I LOVE Kakouras Family Dentistry!

Today was my first visit to Kakouras Family Dentistry to see Dr. Helms for my regular cleaning. I worked for an orthodontist prior to moving to the Charlotte area and I am extremely particular about my overall oral health. With that being said finding a new dental office after seeing the same dentist in my hometown for over 20 years can be a little scary but today's experience was beyond fantastic. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Barbara at the front desk. Barbara was extremely welcoming and kind. Raquel was my hygienist and not only was she friendly and thorough but very gentle and professional. Dr. Helms was also fantastic, very personable, friendly and answered all of my questions with care and concern. I can honestly say this was by far one of the best experiences I have ever had at a dental/doctors office and I can ensure you that you will not be disappointed with Kakouras Family Dentistry. Thank you for everything!!!!

My family has been coming here since 2006. Consistently professional, friendly service and the best of care. The proof is that I still keep coming back. Tommy is a hoot! Best Dentist I have ever had!

We had some phone Etiquette confusion. The owner apologized. I was looking for a New dentist. I was just trying to ask whether you would take my insurance. I called two more and Found a Dentist and made an appt elsewhere, but thanks for Apologizing and I Apologize too.

Today I went with my husband for his first appointment at Kakouras Family' Dentistry. He saw Dr. Tommy. Everyone in the office was extremely nice, professional and knowledgeable! The office was immaculate and we both felt very comfortable there

The crown that was done was not satisfactory. I talked to the dentist re: the issue. I have not hears back from the office at all. Took 3 tries to get the color and fit some what accurate. I felt like i was forced to take the tooth after many complaints of my dissatisfaction. Do not recommend.

I LOVE KAKOURAS DENTAL OFFICE, I REALLY FEEL WHOLE NOW. THE MONENT I WALKED INTO THIS OFFICE BACK IN JUNE OF 2021, I HAVE HAD AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE. THE PATIENCE, EXPLAINING, TIME , EFFORT AND MY FABULOUS LOOK WAS WELL WORTH IT! THE FACE, LOOK AND ATTITUDE OF THE WHOLE STAFF IS MAGNIFICENT... BARBARA IN THE FRONT OFFICE STAFF IS SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL... DR. KAKOURAS, THE DENTAL HYGENTIST, AND THE ENTIRE STAFF IS ALWAYS PLEASANT... YOU KNOW THEY LOVE MY POSITIVE BUT THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER I TRUST AND LOVE THIS DENTAL OFFICE AND WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THE WHOLE WORLD TO THE BEST FOLKS/ PRACTICE AROUND THE EAST COAST. I am absolutely amazed with this practice. Not only are they professional and friendly but they do awesome work. I've had 5 dentists in my life and Dr. Melissa is the absolute best. As for hygienists, they are awesome too. Alicia tells you what she is doing every step of the way and is always concerned about your comfort. She is absolutely the best hygienist I've had since I was a kid. And don't forget the Barbara at the front desk. She took the place of Rhonda who was awesome in her own way but Barbara by far exceeds that...always willing to go beyond a normal receptionists duties. Now I am embarking on some major work for my mouth. Dr. Helms is taking pictures with a camera and impressions to make sure everything is perfect. Never has any dentist of mine been so meticulous about my mouth all the while getting massaged by the dental chair and watching HGTV. All this makes me wonder why I didn't leave my old dentist sooner. On a side note, my husband sees Dr Tommy and he is impressed with him as well. He says Dr Tommy is down to earth and doesn't up sell him like the last place he was at. Seriously everyone, if you're looking for a great dentist, this is the place.

I have very high anxiety about going to the dentist. My past experiences are what has defined this nervous relationship with the phrase "dentist". But I care about keeping my teeth. And I had some serious issues from neglect on my part... I was encouraged by my family to get insurance and go to their dentist. Kakorouras family dentistry. I was so scared I was trembling the whole time during my exam. I had issues that I knew were bad. The team didn't go hard on me like my past experiences they cheered me up and were empathetic with the fact that I care and want to make healthy choices. They didn't scare me with the situation. They told me my treatment plan with a solution based attitude. No shaming. No negative outlook on my hygiene. Encouragement that is and was the genuine article. I'm still completing my treatment plan but I have completed about half. I am consistently treated very well. And I'm starting to feel better about myself as a person because it really took a lot of effort on my part to follow through. In terms of how my treatment plan was laid out. It's also amazing.. Everything is laid out with common sense. I'm not super uncomfortable from having too much done in one day at the recommendation of the team. I appreciate this office greatly and at every turn I recommend them to those I encounter who are searching for dental care.

Dr. Tommy Kakouras is an phenomenal dentist! I love and appreciate all the work that he and his staff does. Everyone in the dentistry from the front door staff to the back office staff is extremely polite, professional and personable. I recently got a crown replaced that I originally got when I was 16 and I actually shed tears! My crown is beautiful and you cannot even tell it's a crown! I'll let you see for yourself..

I came here about 5 years ago and decided it wasn't my favorite dentist because it just felt impersonal and cold, so I left. However, I came back and now it is a complete 180. The receptionists and assistants are all so kind and helpful. Dr. Kakouras is very nice and comforting, especially for me who isn't very fond of dentists in general. Their new environment here has significantly changed my attitude and eased my anxiety about going to the dentist!
