You may notice that our practice is called Kaizen Dental Center—and that’s not Dr. Eric Muraoka’s name… So, where does the “Kaizen” come from? Good question. The term kaizen is the Japanese concept of “continuous improvement” within work, a theory that Dr. Muraoka found great inspiration in while traveling to Japan throughout his life

In awe of how dedicated and diligent everyone was to their respective crafts in Japandue to the fact that they lived their lives by this idea of kaizenDr. Muraoka knew he had to bring this level of passion and diligence to the dental field and his own practice. Its for that very reason that Dr. Muraoka leads Hawaii in dental technology with digital dentistry equipment, his own cutting-edge dental laboratorycontinually improving his craft and skills with each new year.

While kaizen is a perpetual devotion to improving ones expertise, for Dr. Muraoka, this concept translates into a devotion for each and every one of his patients. As kaizen strives for the best, a patient at Kaizen only gets the best care.

Our doctor, and most of our staff, have grown up local to the area. We care about our community and are always looking for ways to give back. Our team can frequently be seen performing Random Acts of Kindness in the Downtown Honolulu community.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit Hawaii, the staff at Kaizen Dental Center 3D printed over 10,000 faceshields at Dr. Muraokas dental lab, for nursing homes and essential workers. We donated to multiple Nurses, Doctors, Dentists, Firefighters, Police Officers.

With recent changes in healthcare, it seems like fewer and fewer doctors are accepting your insurance. We strive to accept as many dental insurance policies as possible, as we are in network with >90% of all PPO plans.

Dr. Eric Muraoka is the lead General Dentist and owner of Kaizen Dental Center. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dr. Muraoka attended the prestigious Iolani School for his formal high school education. He went on to receive his Bachelors in Chemistry from Lewis and Clark College, then stayed in Portland where he received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) from Oregon Health and Sciences University

Outside of the office, Dr. Muraoka loves surfing and serving as a pitching coach for the Iolani High School Baseball Program. When he isnt surfing and coaching, he loves reading and learning about topics ranging from nutrition to 3D printing. He especially loves learning about the newest techniques and technology in dentistry, a passion that has sparked his love for digital dental manufacturing.

This very passion led him to owning his own dental laboratory that specializes in making the highest quality dental prosthetic for other dentists in Hawaii and all across the US. Because of this, Kaizen patients have the added benefit of access to the absolute highest quality products offered in the history of dentistry at Dr. Muraokas Downtown Dental Lab.

Owning a lab and multiple 3D printers has also allowed Dr. Muraoka to help the community during these pandemic times. With this technology hes been able to print PPE, donating over 10,000 face shields printed on his equipment for the community.

Kira is a UH-Manoa graduate. She has been with Dr. Muraoka for two years now, going onto her third! She loves listening to her patients and making them feel comfortable. Although she may enjoy cleaning teeth all day long, she also loves to travel and hike in her free time. One oral hygiene product she cant live without is her Burst electric toothbrush.

Kacy has been with Dr. Muraoka for eight years now. She really enjoys working with him because hes always looking for new tech dentistry which keeps things interesting around her. If shes not working her tail off in the lab, you can find her either surfing at the beach or exercising.

Marv is a dental assistant that has been with Dr. Muraoka for about eight years. She likes working with him because she can learn new things in the dental industry. She likes that he cares for his patients and that he is very pleasant to work with. On her days off, she loves to go on long walks and go to hula practice. She also loves to cook and sew. Her favorite dental product is Melaleuca toothpaste.

Ha means breath of life in Hawaiian, tooth in Japanese, and calm in Vietnamese. She tries to encompass all these deterministic characteristics into your one-hour visits, while cleaning your teeth as shes near your face, in your breathing space, and all in a calm manner. In her free time, she gets her thrills eating out and engaging in unusual conversations.

Malia has been with Dr. Muraoka for a year now and she has also graduated from UH-Manoa. She is the absolute sweetest and conscientious person when it comes to holding someones oral health in her hands. When shes not working, she likes to dine out and BBQ with her friends.

Darron is from Cape Town, South Africa and has worked as a Dental Technologist since 1998. Introduced to CAD-CAM dentistry in 2001, he was at the forefront of this technology, improving every year, collecting accolades under his belt while having attended and lectured at many international seminars.An expert on digitalshade-takingsystems for accurate shade results, Darrons strengths include in smile design, esthetic cases, TMJ treatment and Bite rebuilding, and has a serious passion for implantology and hybrid treatments.He is passionate about his craft, quality driven and is a continual student of the profession.

Jared is the life of the party and has been with Dr. Muraoka for about half a year. He brings with him six years of surgical experience and a personality that never ceases to make your laughs echo from of his operatory. He hails from Boston but his local kine accent definitely overpowers it now! Talk to him about anykine because he sooo loves the island!
