Dr. Sonson has been in the dental fieldsince 1997, graduating from Heidelberg College and the University of Pacific Dental School. A Hawaii-native, he opened his own practice in the heart of Kailua on the island of Oahu in 2001. He is dedicated to offering exceptional service and care to his patients through continuous education and the use of state-of-the-art dental technology.
Dr. Sonson is an active member of the Prestigious Terry Tanaka Prosthetic Study Club, the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, the Hawaii Dental Association and the Honolulu County Dental Society and treasurer for the Hawaii Dental Association Foundation. Specializing in cosmetic bleaching, Invisalign Invisible Braces, dental implants and more, Dr. Sonson is eager to transform beautiful smiles. In his free time he enjoys surfing and yoga.
Dr. Coln graduated from Southern Adventist University with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. He then attended Loma Linda University School of Dentistry where he earned his DDS. degree.Dr. Colns family originally from New York and Massachusetts has lived in Africa, Russia, France, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Michigan. In 2013, Dr. Coln joined the Kailua Dental Care family after he and his wife, a physician assistant, decided to make the move to Hawaii and start a family in Kailua. Prior to moving to the islands, Dr. Coln was a clinical instructor in fixed prosthodontics at LLUSD.
He is a member and Secretrary of the Honolulu County Dental Society, and a member of the Hawaii Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. In his free time he enjoys hiking, surfing, and landscape photography.
Dr. Oak graduated as an Honors Scholar from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology. Immediately after her undergraduate studies, Dr. Oak attended the University of New England College of Dental Medicine where she earned her DMD degree. During her time in dental school, she was awarded the Oral Health Scholarship Award and the International College of Dentists Leadership Award USA Section for academic excellence and demonstration in leadership.
Dr. Oak is an active member of the American Dental Association, Hawaii Dental Association, and the HDA Young Dentists Group. Dr. Oak is thrilled to serve her patients with gentle, compassionate hands. When shes not busy designing smiles and building relationships with her patients, she enjoys being in nature and spending quality time with family and friends.
Dr. Dunkelberger joined the Kailua Dental Care family in 2017. Prior to dentistry, he attended the University of Maryland, earning a Bachelor's degree in Zoology, and went on to work in Biotechnology, Computer Networking & Security, and Tech Recruiting in areas such as San Francisco, Dallas, Atlanta, and Tokyo. Influenced by his father, who is a Pediatric Dentist, he decided to leave the tech field and pursue a career in dentistry, allowing him to uniquely combine his technology background with patient care. Dr. Dunkelberger attended the University of Southern California to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He then served in the United States Navy as a Dental Officer at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe and at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA.

Kailua Dental is such a friendly and professional service! Dr. Colon is a skilled dentist and he has all the latest equipment! Whether for cleaning, xrays, exams, fillings or crowns-- all of these services are top notch! The staff at the front desk are friendly and efficient. The teeth cleaning is superb! Mahalo!

This was my first visit with Kailua dental Care, and it was perfect. The folks of the front desk were cheerful and helpful. Amber, the tech who did the teeth cleaning, was a pleasure and excellent at what she does. And Dr Colon was congenial, knowledgeable, efficient, and pleasant. The doctor and entire staff are super nice here. The office is clean and bright and welcoming. Each time I've been seated in my chair at my scheduled appointment time, which is great.

They're all right but my last experience wasn't great. The hygienist was sniffing, clearing her throat, and sneezed. It really grossed me out and I was kind of afraid I'd end up catching something. Maybe the pandemic has made me hyper aware of that kind of stuff, but it seems like putting your hands in someone's mouth when symptomatic isn't a good idea. I was really uncomfortable with it. Then I have pretty straight teeth (had braces 28 years ago) and the dentist nitpicked the most minute imperfections to try to sell me Invisalign. I'll attach a hilarious photo of my teeth to show you what they tried to convince me is so bad that I should pay the $1300 "promotional rate" to fix it. But I just thought that creating insecurities to make sales isn't a great way to do business when you're in the business of patient well-being.

I literally have never had a more positive experience than with this dentists' office. My friend found em and suggested them to me. Prompt and amazingly courteous with supremely friendly staff everywhere. In the front, and at the chair....psssshhhh idk why it isn't harder to get my appointments set with them. Hope they blow up cause every dentist should be this good. Just recommended them to a friend of mine tonight.

Dentistry wise they're very good. But they tend to recommend the most expensive procedures, aren't clear about how much it will cost, and customer service drops thru the floor when you ask them about it. They do like your money tho.

I am on vacation here on island, my lower denture had broke in half. Was very easy to get an appointment. When I arrived, I was taken back very quick. When I returned for delivery of denture it fit perfectly and had been reinforced and relined. This denture had never fit properly and now fits perfectly! Thank you to everyone who made this happen! Now back to my vacation!

The front desk staff are awesome! My favorite dentist is Dr. Colon. He's smart, up-to-date on all the new equipment & techniques, very thorough and very easy to talk to regarding treatment options. They are also on-time for appointments!

Today, Hygienist, Ryan helped my son feel comfortable and made the experience fun; my son was in tears before the appt not wanting to go and when we left said he likes the dentist and wants to go back. Our whole ohana goes to Kailua Dental Care.

Beautiful office, but they never called me back for an appointment after saying I had 3 cavities. I called them back twice to set up an appointment and there was an insurance problem? Idk two months past by and the only response I got was a bill for the X-rays. By then I already found a new dentist in aiea who got me right. Super frustrating overall, hope I was the only one.

Start to finish everything went well. When you walk in it's a nice waiting area. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. The care they provide for their patron is perfect. Like some dentist office I've been too it seemed like they were money hungry and wanted to charge you for stuff you don't need done this place actually cares about your finances and looks out for the best for you. Highly recommend this place for all your dentist needs.
