Dr. Trace Baxter is a general dentist with specialized training in hospital dentistry. He received his dental education at OHSU before moving to Honolulu for his residency where he received training from specialists in oral surgery, endodontics, orthodontics, pediatrics, and periosurgery. He completed rotations in the operating room, emergency room, and anesthesia. After completing his residency Dr. Baxter worked in private practice in the Honolulu area before moving to Maui and becoming the owner of Kahului Dental.

He was born seven of eight children, raised in eastern Oregon outside the small town of Baker City. His high school included kindergarten to 12th grade with a graduating class of 17 students. Being such a small school he was valedictorian and student body president. He was on the basketball team, HS band, track team, and 8-man football team. Chores were common on a ranch with eight kids, including milking the family cow, Sally, morning and evening to help supply the family's consumption of butter, cream, yogurt, and milk. Summers were spent moving irrigation pipe and building fence for nearby potato, wheat, and alfalfa farms. After a semester at BYU-Hawaii in Laie he served a full-time mission in northern France and Belgium and is now fluent in French.

Dr. Baxter's favorite pastime is chasing around his five children. His wife gave birth to triplets in the summer of 2018 making 38 grandchild on his side. In what little free time he can find he enjoys hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, basketball, and reading.

Dr. Landon Momberg is a general dentist with experience in remote and rural dentistry. Prior to relocating to Maui,Dr. Momberg worked on Indian Health Reservations in Nome, Alaska. The job required flying into remote eskimo villages to complete dental treatment throughout the winter. Highlights of his time in Alaska include cheering on the Iditarod sled dog racers to the finish line and witnessing the northern lights.

Dr. Momberg is native to a small town in Manly, Iowa. He earned his Bachelor degree in Biology and Psychology from Iowa State University while competing on the Track and Field team. He went on to receive his degree in dental medicine from the University of Louisville where he learned to use a bow tie and attended the Kentucky Derby. Hobbies include skateboarding, snowboarding, and photography. You might see him riding around Kahului and Wailuku on his scooter.

Dr. Deborah Pooleis native to a small town in Arkansas and one of five daughters. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at the University of Arkansas. She was accepted to Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in which she received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery.

Her love for dentistry did not appear in her life until she experienced having braces as an adult. It was then that she realized how many times she had been a patient going through so many different types of dental treatment as well as numerous times a year. She made it a goal to advocate the importance of prevention and oral health.

Dr. Poole has worked in a variety of offices from cosmetic dentistry to community clinics. As a former student, it is herprofessional as well as personal passion to care, educate and help people obtain optimum oral health. She ismotivated by the enjoyment of interacting with people and knowing that her patients are capable of having confidence and a great sense of satisfaction when it comes to their dental needs.

Having a strong desire to live in Hawaii, she made the move to Maui where she met her husband and recently got married in February 2018.Her other top passions include her Christian faith, cooking and being a tour guide on Maui to all of her friends and family who have supported her throughout her career and travel half the nation to visit her.

I've been with Dr. Poole at Kahului Dental since August of last year and I've never had more confidence or peace of mind that I'm getting the best care. I have a rather extreme phobia of dentists but Dr. Poole and everyone at Kahului Dental have been so incredibly kind and patient with me. I highly recommend this practice.

Dr. Baxter and his team are amazing. I am one of those people who has a huge fear of dentists. Such a big fear that I have avoided going for 10+ years. I went to Dr. Baxter because I had a filling fall out. He and his staff were super awesome, gentle, and made me feel like I was in great hands. They didn't pressure me to do anything. Made sure I was comfortable, and discussed pricing before doing any work. I will definitely be visiting them regularly, and recommend them to my friends.

I think I found my new favorite dentist!!! Dr Deborah Poole is so so skilled, kind, explains my options and the rationale clearly so that I can make informed decisions about my care, she actively follows up to discuss results of specialist referrals and ask me what I want to do next... I absolutely appreciate that respectful, professionalism and patient-centeredness. Also, incidentally, she has slender fingers that make it easy to get into the spaces in the back without pain for me! Also, the whole team is so welcoming, respectful, engaging-- they made it a point to learn my name and make me feel like a valued client. The office has beautiful picture windows for viewing the treetops, blue sky and clouds... Mahalo nui to all of you, thank you so much!

I walked in today hoping to get a chip in my front tooth fixed. Dr. Baxter was recommended to me from Samantha over at Hawaii Smile Designs in Kahului. The staff was super nice and they fit me in even though I did not have an appointment. The fill is virtually undetectable! Thank you Dr. Baxter and the team for everything. You guys rock!

We are so very thankful for Dr. Baxter and what he has done for our family. There is no better dentist on Earth. Having Dr. Baxter and his staff take care of the dental needs of our family over the years, has been one of the great parts of our lives. Fortunate or lucky does not do it. The best ever! Thank you, Dr. Baxter and the staff at Kahului Dental.

Hands down the best dental office I've ever been to (Maui & beyond)! Dr. Momberg, Dr. Baxter, and all the staff are so kind, professional and fun to be around. I never dread going in for my cleanings. The wait is long as a new patient, but I promise it's worth it!! :)

AVOID THIS DENTIST AT ALL COST. It's a sad state of affairs that Maui has so few dentists to choose from, and that this one has the gall to treat their patients with such a lack of professionalism and utter disregard. New to the island, I waited four months to get on schedule for a cleaning - with two different reschedules due to covid. Not once in those four separate conversations did they tell me I'd need new X-rays for a cleaning, or that their "standard of care" aka "how to extract the most money patients", is to demand X-rays every year, and with every visit. They also, over the course of four phone calls, never told me that my dental records - which my last dentist sent twice - somehow hadn't been received. I arrived 15 minutes early to my appointment. The hygienist came out to get me and immediately brought me to the X-ray room. I explained that I just had X-rays 6 months ago, and was just there for a cleaning. She took me by the arm and let me, like a scolded child, back to the front desk. Wha? Why did a hygienist feel ok to do this to a new patient? There, the snippy receptionist told me that they wouldn't see me until I had new X-rays. Reluctantly, I agreed to another set of X-rays. (Two people in my bloodline have died from brain cancer so, as I gently shared with them, I take the exposure very seriously). Then the receptionist told me I couldn't have the appointment, and that I needed to leave because I was being resistant to getting X-rays. I said I didn't understand, that I had just agreed to their X-ray policy. She told me I had to leave. I then asked to speak to the owner. Surprise, no one was available. Then, another person in their office (I don't know if it was a patient or an employee) walked over, got right in my face, and threatened me, saying, "You need to leave or you're going to have trouble." Not a single person in the office said a thing. I looked at the receptionist, said, "this is crazy." And asked one last time if I could just get my cleaning. She told me they would call security if I didn't leave. THE MOST FRIGHTENING PART... The same person, I imagine another hygienist, followed me into the elevator breathing down my neck and said she knows where I live, and she knows how to deal with bullies, and that I had better not step foot in the building again. I've never in my life been treated that way and can't imagine what happens if you actually get time in the chair with these people.

As a former patient, I say BEWARE! He almost killed me. I had an impacted infected tooth. I couldn't get them to pull it. They just would not do their jobs. I ended up septic, and spent $4,000 on emergency extraction on a Saturday. Don't go here. If you value your life, find a dentist that will be there when you need them. He had one job and he blew it. Filing a lawsuit against him next. Jeeze what a screw up!

About two years ago, I was told these guys were the best. Called and they weren't accepting new patients. Bummed, I wrote a review telling people they weren't accepting anyone new. They reached out, I asked to be on a wait list, then I changed my review to reflect that they tried to make it right. fast forward another year and a half, I go into a trigeminal nerve freak out and am in and out of ER thinking I need all of my teeth pulled out. I contacted them in a panic, and they black balled me. I found this out because I called about having a filling replaced there today and the woman said I was flagged. I guess I'm a problem patient (even though they've never seen me)? I have really bad phobia and was told these were the docs to see. I would have been loyal (albeit teary eyed), and would have paid in full at the end of any and all appointments (just like my fiance, who is a patient there lol?). I tried probably harder than anyone on this island to become a patient here. And now I'm done.

I went to three dentists on the west side of Maui and was not pleased. Now I drive a half an hour to Kahului Dental and every minute is worth it. The office is cheerful and efficient. The front desk is actually fun. Dr. Baxter is caring and never in a rush. Painless! His assistant , Sierra is a doll. A pleasure to be around. I have never reviewed a dental office before. This office is the best. Give them a try. Ally
