A pediatric dentist, like Dr. McCoy, Dr. Lawson, and Dr. Johnston are practitioners who, after becoming a general dentist (often called a family dentist), has completed at least an additional two years of post-doctoral training in the recognition and treatment of childrens dental services. Specialty education includes child psychology, behavior guidance, preventive techniques, pediatric sedation, hospital dentistry, restorative dentistry, and the treatment of children with special needs. Our doctors have gone beyond the requirements of a Pediatric Dental Specialist, becoming credentialed by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and all have hospital privileges at Maine Medical Center for advanced treatment needs.
She continued at the University at Buffalo for dental school where she graduated in the top of her class and was elected to membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a dental honor society. Following her graduation from dental school, she continued her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at The Ohio State University/Nationwide Childrens Hospital in Columbus, OH. She earned her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and a Masters degree in Dentistry from The Ohio State University.
She joined Just For Kids in 2014. Shes served on Maine Medical Centers Hemophilia team as well as being engaged at the University of New England College of Dental Medicine teaching pediatric dentistry to dental students.In her free time, she enjoys cycling, hiking, and skiing.

Everyone was professional and friendly, from the front desk staff to the surgery and anesthesia staff. The waiting room and procedure room were both clean and inviting and my son's tooth extraction was efficient and he has recovered very well. Would highly recommend!

We love the professional care that our children receive here. The staff are friendly and great with children and Dr Lawson is very dedicated and the kids love her. We highly recommend this practice to anyone with children..

It's been a positive experience over the last couple of years bringing our son in for his dental care. Toddlers aren't always the most cooperative and you add a diagnosis of autism on top of that, well, you have a recipe for a vibrant visit. From the front desk to the dentists, we have had nothing but patient professional interactions and couldn't be happier.

When we entered, Front desk employees gave us a warm welcome and that made me feel good and relaxed. As I was with my 2 and 4 years old sons. Things weren't manageable at all as you can imagine with these two! But I thank front employees so much for being patience with us. Hygienist and the doctor were so nice, calm and kind. They do well with the kids and I love that. Very professionals with their job.

This was our first time at the practice and the staff both out front and in the room were phenomenal. My son who was nervous was put at ease almost immediately. It was great. I highly recommend Just for Kids Pediatric Dentistry.

I made an appointment for my oldest son at Just for Kids' Scarborough location. We live quite far from there, so we left with extra time to try to ensure an arrival on time. Unfortunately, we had to stop to care for my infant, four months old at the time. As a result, we were twenty minutes late to the appointment and we were told we could not be seen. I was told to call back to reschedule. When I did so, I was informed my entire family was blacklisted from ever returning to the Just for Kids establishments because we had been late. This has been a devastating blow to our family because their Windham location is the closest location we know of to receive dental treatment for my children. I have made several phone calls, pleading with them to please not punish our family for being late one time. I implored them recently by email to please reconsider their position of blacklisting our family because I discovered another one of my children needs treatment. I was informed in no uncertain terms that the dentists' time is valuable. The woman who returned my email stated that she has to leave extra early for herself and her children and even though she may be an hour early and "at least I know I'm being respectful to everyone's time." I am incredible respectful of the dentist's valuable time, I apologized profusely, and to insinuate that I am not and for me to be treated in this manner is humiliating and very disrespectful to me and my family. I also had been completely unaware of this policy when the appointment was made because I had received a referral. I have mentioned this incident with several dentists and/or offices that I have called and nearly all have been very surprised and apologetic that this has occurred. While I am fairly certain their dentists are well trained and well equipped to handle children, I cannot recommend Just for Kids to anyone due to the lack of empathy I and my family have been subjected to, and if their policy is this inflexible I would advise caution before considering them.

Our 5 year old son went through extensive dental work and underwent anesthesia for the first time. As parents there were so many rollercoaster emotions that day. Every one of those emotions my husband and I had were treated with so much kindness and respect with all involved. The nurses, Dr, McCoy and Dr. Vila were professional in every way. We will be forever grateful for the kindness and treatment they provided to our son. There truly are not enough words to express our gratitude.

My 6 year old daughter had to have several extractions due to prior treatment failure. Having to use sedation was concerning, however everyone was excellent and very accommodating. The procedure was done quickly and I completely trusted them. Would highly recommend!

We love everything about Just For Kids Dentistry! Everyone from the front staff, to the hygienists, to the doctors are all so friendly and professional! Everything runs so smoothly and on time, and I especially appreciate the various ways we receive appointment reminders via texts and emails. They are always able to schedule my three kids back-to-back which is greatly appreciated! I also love how they are upfront about costs of procedures and coverage BEFORE the appointment!

I can't say enough good things about this practice. My daughter has been coming for 6 years and we all still love this place, the care they give and their staff. Environment is clean and cheery, equipment is current, everyone is friendly, helpful and efficient. My kids also love the fun sunglasses while in the chair under the lights, the TV with kids programming and my daughter is crazy about the goodie bag -- tooth care as well as some free toys or charms. Dr. Chelsea Johnston is our current dentist and she is a good pediatric dentist who makes it easy for kids. Hygienists are always doing a great job at cleaning, educating and easing time for kids during cleaning. A true 5-star experience, always!
