Dr. Hallisy is committed to and passionate about the subjects of dentistry, oral health, patient safety, and health care quality. Her personal and professional goals include working diligently to help patients maintain their dental health and to give all patients a voice in health care solutions.
Dr. Julia Hallisy is a native San Franciscan and majored in biological science at the University of San Francisco. In 1988, Dr. Hallisy received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry.
Dr. Hallisy is licensed by the Dental Board of California and is a member of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention, the San Francisco Dental Society, the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the UCSF Dental Alumni Association.
Dr. Hallisy has been researching the topic of patient safety since 1998 and has worked with the California Nurses Association on HMO reform and with Senator Barbara Boxer to promote the passage of legislation for a national Patients Bill of Rights. In 2006, Dr. Hallisy was a recipient of a scholarship from the National Patient Safety Foundation to attend their annual national congress as a consumer advocate. Dr. Hallisy has worked with AARP on empowered patient training and has lobbied for health care safety in Washington, DC with the Consumers Union Safe Patient Project. Dr. Hallisy has also worked with The National Quality Forum, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and the federal Partnership for Patients initiative.
In 2009, Dr. Hallisy formed a non-profit organization, The Empowered Patient Coalition website, dedicated to providing educational and advocacy resources for the public. Dr. Tara Johnston is passionate about dentistry and committed to providing quality oral care to patients of all ages.A Bay Area native, Dr. Johnston moved to the central coast city of San Luis Obispo to complete her undergraduate studies in Biology at California Polytechnic Institute, where she graduatedSumma Cum Laude. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry.
Dr. Johnston is licensed by the Dental Board of California and is a member ofthe San Francisco Dental Society, the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the UCSF Dental Alumni Association, and the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Additionally, she received the prestigiousC.Craig Memorial Scholarship for excelling in her doctoral studies during her 3rd and 4th years of dental school.
Since 2015, Dr. Johnston has worked as a general dentist in both private practice and nonprofit dental offices.She is committed to the public health aspect of dentistry and dedicated to increasing access to care for under served patients in her community. Dr. Johnston also enjoys traveling to other countries to provide free dental services to those in need through charity organizations in Mexico and in the Dominican Republic.In her free time, she spends time cooking, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.

I've been seeing Dr. Hallisy for a couple of years and I'm so happy that I switched over to her practice. I have always felt well taken care of. Dr. Hallisy is very honest, professional and thorough when it comes to taking care of your dental health. I also found her staff to be the same. Since the pandemic I've gone in a couple of times and felt very safe, which is very important to me due to my age. I highly recommend Dr. Hallisy for your dental needs.

Dr. Hallisy is an excellent dentist whom I have been seeing for quite some time. She is very knowledgeable, patient, gentle and compassionate. Dr. Hallisy has taken good care of all my dental needs in a competent and thorough manner. I have also been taking my son there since he was a little boy. Dr. Hallisy is the only dentist he has ever seen and he is very comfortable in her care. Her office is clean, efficient and I know I can count on being seen on time. The staff is highly trained and everyone is very friendly and helpful. Plus there's plenty of parking. I highly recommend Dr. Hallisy for both adults and children.
