Dr. Joseph R. Hendrick, Jr. is a graduate of Shelby High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, while concurrently completing the Pre-Dental Curriculum. In 1985, he graduated from the UNC School of Dentistry with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Dr. Hendrick was awarded the Grover Hunter Award for Clinical and Academic Excellence in Predoctoral Periodontics.
Dr. Hendrick is actively involved in the dental community. He is a member of theAmerican Dental Association,the North Carolina Dental Society,and the Isothermal Dental Society, having served as Treasurer, Vice-President, and President. He has served on the Houseof Delegates for numerous years in the North Carolina Dental Society. He was a charter member of the Piedmont Dental Forum. Dr. Hendrick serves locally asPast President for First District in the North Carolina Dental Society and is a member of the North Carolina Dental Society Board of Trustees. Dr. Hendrick has participated in the North Carolina initiative,'Give Kids A Smile'day, where underserved children are given needed dental care. He and Lori contribute to RDH Magazine addressing current issues and trends for dental providers.Dr. Hendrick is involved in church and community activities as well. He has served on theAmerican Cancer SocietyBoard and Advisory Board for the Salvation Army. He also served as a Board Member of First Charter Bank. As a member of the Kiwanis Club of Shelby, he served as Board Member, Officer, and President. In the church, he served as a Church Council Member and a Member of the Church Financial Committee, overhauling and streamlining budgeting processes.
Dr. Hendrick takes the time to get to know his patients. He believes it is important to get to know the people who are entrusting him with their care. Dr. Hendrick has strong values and a desire to provide optimal care to his patients. He incorporates new technologies in his practice once they have been proven safe and effective. He has a strong desire to educate patients concerning oral health and the direct effect on overall health.
When free time presents, Dr. Hendrick enjoys spending time with family and friends. Other activities and hobbies include sports, cars, entertainment, and traveling. He has a special interest in historic military aircraft,aviation, and classic cars.
Lori joined the office in 2006 fulfilling the role of Office Manager. Lori graduated as an NC Honor Scholar from Burns High School and attended Gardner-Webb University as an Academic Scholar. Lori holds an AAS Degree in Dental Hygiene from Central Piedmont Community College and a Dual Master of Science degrees in Dental Hygiene and Global Health from Old Dominion University (ODU). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Administration and Health Policy from ODU.Other credentials are Certified Dental LabTechnician, with over 28 years of experience in Dental Lab Technology and CDAwith over ten years of experience chairside assisting. After having worked on the legislation for dental hygienists to provide local anesthetic, Lori recently, became the first dental hygienist in NC to be licensed to provide local anesthetic. Our office is currently the only office in Shelby, NC with a dental tech on staff to assist with shades, contour changes, and other restorative concerns. She is very knowledgeable in dental care, treatment planning, restorative materials, and navigating the insurance world.In addition to her chairside experience, Loriowns and operates her own dental lab and consulting business- Athena Dental Solutions, LLC. Lori resides in Shelby with her family and mischievous Siberian Huskey - Loki. When not treating patients, Lori enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, restoring antique autos with her son, and flying in historic military aircraft.
Angie joined the office in 1998 as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Angie is a graduate of Crest High School and Central Piedmont Dental Hygiene Program. She is directly involved in patient education, patient screening, assessment of oral health conditions, reviews oral health history, processes digital radiographs, removes plaque and calculus from all surfaces of teeth and counsels patients on oral hygiene, nutrition and it impacts on oral health. Angie and her family reside in Boiling Springs, NC. When she is not treating patients, Angie enjoys spending time with her husband and children.
Amber joined our practice in 2018 as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Amber is a graduate of Greenville Tech Dental Hygiene Program. Providing hygiene therapies includes patient education, screening for oral healthcare diseases as well as overall health assessments, gathering medical histories, processing radiographs, removing plaque and calculus from the surfaces of the teeth and counseling patients on oral hygiene and nutrition.When Amber is not working providing optional oral care to her patients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children.
Amber joined our practice in 2014 serving as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Amber is a graduate of York Tech Dental Hygiene Program. She provides outstanding care to her patients, taking the time to discuss their oral health care needs as well as explaining the connection oral health has to overall health. Amber provides oral health care education and nutritional counseling when needed.When she is not working helping patient achieve optimal oral health, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son.
Roxanne joined our practice in 2016 as we merged with the office of Dr. A. Neal Spangler upon his retirement. Roxanne is a graduate of the Dental Assisting Program at Central Piedmont Community College. She is knowledgeable in all aspects of restorative, general, and cosmetic procedures. Roxanne is involved in patient care assisting Dr. Hendrick, applying sealants, exposing dental radiographs, and explaining procedures and treatment plans to patients. When not in the office, Roxanne enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and grandchildren. She and her family reside in Kings Mountain, NC.

Dr. Hendrick is one of the best dentist I every used he is caring, very polite, not rude or anyone on his stuff. I grew up using military dentists and their are some of rude, nasty attitude people you every meet. I'm so glade I came to see Dr. Hendrick he put my mind is at ease I will continue to come see Dr. Hendrick for any work that may be needed.

This is the best dentist in Shelby,NC by far! AWESOME STAFF!! I was always very nervous to go to dentist after a tank accident in IRAQ and messed my whole mouth up, but here they all make you fill welcome and like your at home I can honestly say I am very happy with the service provided here. Dr. Hendrick and nurses explained everything before we even started. They answered any questions I had, and I am so happy I went here. I now have a wonderful smile again thanks to Dr. Hendricks and the staff! I really cannot put into words how amazing this place is. I will definitely keep going and keep recommending others to him because as I said before he/they are the BEST in Shelby NC!

I was always very nervous to go to dentist after a tank accident in IRAQ and messed my whole mouth up, but here they all make you fill welcome and like your at home I can honestly say I am very happy with the service provided here. Dr. Hendrick and nurses explained everything before we even started. They answered any questions I had, and I am so happy I went here. I now have a wonderful smile again thanks to Dr. Hendricks and the staff! I really cannot put into words how amazing this place is. I will definitely keep going and keep recommending others to him because as I said before he/they are the BEST in Shelby NC!

Hygienist did try to guilt trip me for my daughter's teeth, told her she was 12, has all the tools available (new toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash and even a sink in her bedroom) and knew about good/bad diet & how to take care of her own teeth and ALSO had Cyclic vomiting syndrome ( vomiting for hours on most days) her whole life. Dentist was very nice and seemed knowledgable, he ADDED in front of hygienist that the CVS meds gave my daughter dry mouth, AND that she grinds her teeth and also had an underbite due to a strong chin and will need braces. However we wont be coming back, despite saying they were in-network with our insurance when we made the first 2 appointments, their fee was too high so services that should be "free services" or should be included in our insurance were not...by far! The office lady (dentist's wife) was mean and very rude. She took over 3 months to make her claim to our insurance, and wanted us to pay for what our insurance should cover and then get reimbursed or give us credit on future dental work... So of course we went to a new dentist but this office refused to transfer our X-rays for over 45 minutes wasting everybody's time for nothing and also discussed our billing details with the new office over the phone with them (not me) despite both being very illegal for a dentist to do!! Beware! This office would have been great without the office lady (dentist wife) lying about being in-network, trying to overcharge for services included in insurance, trying to make us pay for insurance part/getting double paid, withholding our X-rays, or discussing our billing/balance details with our new dentist. Oh and she also calls frequently & threatens to turns us in to collection... If/when she does will turn her in too for her multiple illegal behaviors. Starting with this review for today's call...

Dr. Hendrick has been my dentist since I was a child. Now I bring my son to see Dr. Hendrick. They have the best staff and always tell you what to expect during your appointments so you are not surprised. While my son waited on getting numb, they let him watch a video to keep him calm and take his mind off the procedure.

Call the office this morning to get a appointment for my husband a new patient. The receptionist ask if I had insurance I said yes I had local 102 and bcbs dental insurance she said I said I only had Medicaid we don't have Medicaid we have Medicare for hospitalization. She told me that we could not service my husband even if we had the money to pay cash or use our dental insurance I was a little taken back so I said ok so I found another dentist to go to very pleasant and nice. Very good experience. So it bother me so when I got home I spoke to your office manager and she was very rude. If that is the way your teach your employees to treat your patients that is sad and I didn't know cash wasn't good any more. What about the oath your take.

Great staff, great dentist. Our family has seen Dr. Hendrick for many years and he is the best! He helps to ease patient anxiety with his soft spoken voice. Staff is very knowledgeable. Before we landed here for our dental home, we visited several other "big box" dental offices in Shelby where we were not treated like an individual. We do not feel that way at this office. They go out of their way to make us feel at home from the time you walk into the office. Highly recommended!

Went to this dentist to be seen and I would not recommend this doctor because one of his hygienist is rude she does not care how she talks to the patients making you feel like you are just trash and worthless if you can find a dentist other than here you will be better off

Not sure why the negative reviews on here. I've seen Dr. Hendrick a few times and have spoken on the phone with the receptionist, I've never felt any way other than respected. As far as dental cleaning and dental work, so far everyone here has been top notch, very explainative of what's going on, also some of the things I should do to help my teeth. I highly recommend Dr Hendrick to anyone.
