Courteous staff at the front desk. Very compassionate and kind people assistant helping with procedures. Dr Burton has done a thorough and exceptional job so far. He explains everything in simple language. Highly recommend

Amazing. Removed my severely impacted wisdom teeth ten years ago, and removed a broken root from my jaw this year, and both went off without a hitch. Very to the point and does nothing unnecessarily. Makes sure you are comfortable and the process always moves smooth and efficiently from consult to surgery. Hands down, best oral surgeon around.

I had my wisdom teeth removed a couple of years ago, and actually forgot the name of the facility (Sorry Dr. Burton, i'm bad with names lol) My girlfriend however has some needing removed, and thus i googled facilities near Carbondale until I stumbled upon it. Upon seeing some of these reviews i felt it necessary to leave my own. The staff was amazing, i had zero issues, i asked questions that pertained to my life style, and was given answers. I specifically wanted to be 'put under' due to some bad events in the past with dentists. I have always been hit or miss with the numbing agents/injections, so it made sense to me. I was provided with all of the needed information, as well as a pamphlet i'm pretty sure, and watched an educational video on the procedure and methods being used. I knew EXACTLY what i was getting into, the risks during, and the risks after, including dry socket, etc. If anything I almost wished I knew less lol. From what I remember of my conversation with Burton, he was pretty upbeat and positive. I do remember asking him some particular questions pertaining to weightlifting, supplementation use, etc. His responses were straight to the point and factual, and I expect nothing less of a man with such a serious job and thousands of patients. All in all, 5/5 stars, and I HIGHLY recommend him to my family, loved ones, and anyone else out there.

My daughter and stepdaughter both recently had their wisdom teeth surgically removed. I could not have been more pleased with the service and professionalism of Dr. Burton and his entire office staff. It seems nearly Impossible anymore to get a great all around experience but this office truly did an awesome job ! Thank you

I am the office manager at Shawnee Hills Oral Surgery and Dr. Burton's wife. We were both born and raised in Southern Illinois. My husband has been practicing in the area for over nine years and we have seen several thousands of patients. As you can see, we have not pleased a few. Unlike other providers, we DO NOT pay a company to help us with our reviews. I feel that we do have an outstanding staff. I am told daily by our patients how friendly they are. I receive many complements that we are prompt and well organized. I do feel that my husband, is an outstanding provider. He is smart, honest and an excellent surgeon. We want you, your son or daughter to receive the same care our daughter would receive. I tell our employees on a regular basis "Treat everyone as if it was your family". Sometimes we can't use your x-ray because it's too old or it doesn't show the entire tooth structure. We strive to stay on schedule. At times, your appointment may need to be rescheduled. These things do happen. We try to be very up front without surprises. Unfortunately, we cannot make everyone happy. But I can assure you that the majority of our patients are satisfied with the care they receive.

For this reason, I have always avoided having my wisdom teeth removed. I'm on day 2 of removal and I shouldn't have waited. Everything has gone completely smoothly. Dr. Burton and his staff answered any and all questions I had and were completely respectful with my fears. I will recommend this office to everyone.

EDIT: Ok, final response. My review is not associated with anyone else and is my experience solely. Please take the review as feedback and consider how you could improve your delivery services. I had my wisdom teeth removed years ago and have been meaning to write a review for a long time. I am writing to give fair warning and hopefully provide feedback to Burton about my perception of his services and experience. Front desk staff were very friendly, welcoming, and on top of scheduling. Office area is also really nice. My removal went fine and now years out I don't have any complaints regarding my teeth. However, Burton's bedside manners and communication needs improvement. Similar to other reviewers (see office Google review), I found him to be rude. As he went through his examinations and follow up he did not explain what he was doing with tools which felt like poor bedside manners. Perhaps I have been spoiled with other doctors but everyone else always explains as they go. I feel as though doctors should be informative and explain in simple terms what they are doing as they touch you. His silence left me to interpret his behaviors as if he was annoyed and uncomfortable with me. No doctor has stood in front up me, told me to open up, and not explain what they are doing. I ended up having a complication and I asked what he was taking photos for and he basically explained it was for his own protections in case I try and sue him. I had no intention to do so nor do I plan, but again his explanation reflects his poor bedside manners. I can imagine there are better ways to explain to a patient why you are taking pictures of their tooth (e.g., monitor progress). I can't tell if he was simply stressed, is uncomfortable or anxious talking with clients, or what but something got in the way in delivering his services in environment that felt safe and welcoming for me. Finally, his explanation of the procedure and follow up sessions left a ton to be desired. I felt I had to ask many questions to clearly understand what was happening and he seemed unwilling to elaborate without prompting. With all of that said, it has been years so he may have changed but based on my experience I would recommend staying away or checking for yourself during a consultation about how he delivers client care.

Had my wisdom teeth taken out.. Dr. Burton along with all staff were all fantastic.. amazing facilities.. no issue and was in and out quickly.. also Military (Veteran) friendly

I had my lower wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Burton, and it was a very well-managed process. Dr. Burton and his staff answered all of my questions, and I experienced very little pain during and after the proceedure due to very effective anesthesia and pain management. The staff were all very pleasant, and Dr. Burton was not chatty, but very professional and skilled. I highly recommend this office for oral surgery.

Dr. Burton is rude, insensitive, impatient, unprofessional, and needs to be put out of business immediately. I scheduled an appointment to have my wisdom removed with Dr. Burton after SIU referred me. When scheduling my appointment, I was not informed that I should not eat or drink 6 hours prior to the surgery. Luckily, I asked around enough because I am very fearful of anesthesia and found this out on my own. On the day of my appointment, I informed the receptionist that I was not told to refrain from eating or drinking. By the time I met Dr. Burton, I was very visibly having an anxiety attack. I let him know I was scared to "go under," and he violently explained the process of removing impacted wisdom teeth in effort to deter me from local anesthesia. He also explained that since I was almost 25 at the time, my surgery would be much more difficult. He was not shy about the fact that he thought it was not smart to wait as long as I had. I brought a close friend and colleague of mine with me. We are law students, so naturally she was being very thorough and in asking questions about the procedure to alleviate my fear. Dr. Burton grew irritated very quickly and was very rude with her. He then turned to me and accused me of lying about not being informed to refrain from eating or drinking. Not that he had actual knowledge that I was told or not told, but because "it is standard procedure," so he said he knew I was told. He proceeded to tell me that I wasting his time and I had 60 seconds to decide if I wanted the surgery. I quickly said that I did not want him to operate on me. I was not about to let someone who was so confrontational and impatient care for me while I was unconscious. I grabbed my things and left quickly. I was charged $80 for this very horrible experience. I have informed SIU to stop referring people to his office and I hope they have done so. I still have not had my wisdom removed almost a year later because I was so frightened by this experience. I am reminded of this experience as I prepare to undergo surgery in a few days and I think people should know. I hope this review will help someone find the right surgeon as Dr. Burton is not it. I know it sounds like something right out of a movie, but you can't make stuff like this up. I would have never thought I would encounter a surgeon so disgustingly rude in my life.
